Rental cars are a necessity for travel. Service is better here than most big cities.

Nick is a great man who went way out of his way to help me deal with a complication on my end. Made for a much better start to Christmas than it would have been otherwise.

Let me start out by saying what a big fan of National Rental car I am. I've traveled a lot over the years (pre pandemic) and its one of my choice rental companies. And the Emerald Aisle service....wow. To be able to walk up to your car and go is an added advantage when you really need to get going. That being said, don't try that in St. Louis. The National Car rental there has some serious problems. Everyone has the double check at the gate to get out and although you can pick up the car and go, they still need to check and make sure your no stranger. But here is my experience from today. First, as I left the airport and stood to wait for the shuttle, I literally watched the Hertz and Thrifty shuttles make 2 trips of dropping off passengers and they were on there third trip when the National driver showed up. Next, I get off the van and pick my car thinking I'm out of here and on my way. They had 3 exit lanes. And then as I approach the lane nearest me in my vehicle, she waves her finger at me and puts a cone down and starts walking away with no explanation and never looking back. So I make my way to the next lane and a kind customer waves me in front him as he notices I have no way to go other than to back up and drive around some other cars to get to the back of the line. His kindness puts me as the third car with the first car at the window. 5 mins go by no movement in my row. I notice about 5 customers the row over served and gone. 10 mins now and same car sitting there....as I notice the other attendant has cleared the line and another line has grown, however I have one car behind and am stuck. Now 15 mins.....it was 20 mins to service one car. Then when I get up to the window, about 30 mins later, I'm asked for my returning plane ticket so I show her, thinking this is strange. And after looking at it she says, so your leaving Monday......no Ma'am, as my ticket shows you, I'm leaving Sunday. I didn't stay as long as the other poor soul and did get out of there in 5 mins but halfway down the road, I looked at my gas mileage it was only 3/4 of a tank. I already know I'm going to get the short end of this stick, but let me say, this rental is not over yet, but thus far it is a great car and it was clean and what I needed, but this is one National Car Rental that needs some serious process improvement. Try Thrifty or Enterprise or Alamo until they get there act together.

Arrived in the St Louis airport today and had an excellent experience with this National Car Rental / Emerald Club. Shoutout to Sam and Ramses! Fast, friendly, and thoughtful. Thanks again.

Many cars are available, but to go through the gate is horrible. I sat at the gate for almost 1 minute, and the gate wouldn't open up. Finally, i backed up a little, and the gate opened up. The lady took my license and credit card, and I waited approximately 5 minutes for her to complete whatever she had to complete. I didn't understand why it took this long, I've been renting from national for over 8 years. I received my documents with no explanation or anything, other than you're good. A little more communication and friendlier customer service.

The shuttle driver an older white man helped me take my bags into the shuttle and tried helping me console me after being left stranded by my original rental company. Once I was helped by the gentlemen in the counter he was very nice and efficient however due to their company policies I was not able to rent a vehicle from them. He helped me get another shuttle back to the airport however with my medical disability I struggled leading the luggage into the shuttle as he only watched. He proceeded to question as to why I flew into st.louis.. he also mentioned that if it weren't for me he would have been off duty. Following that he didn't help me with my luggage and I almost fell. Btw it was 17°. Very disappointed

I have been an Executive Elite member for years. The company that I run in STL has been a loyal customer for years with them all across the country. I personally had 38Rentals in 2022. I recently tried to reserve a car at the STL location like I do 2 weeks per month and noticed that our rate jumped to $95 per day. I had 4 rentals in January and all were at our negotiated rate. I have been calling and emailing National for two weeks and cannot get anyone to return my call to discuss the rate change. They tell me I will get a call back with 24 hours but still no return call. We were able to get a matching rate to our old rate with Avis and we have been using them for the last few weeks. Maybe National just does not need the business. Anyone else having this problem with National? Their customer service is normally very good and I am surprised by my company's experience over the last few weeks.Update: I finally received a call back from National. They are cancelling/not renewing contracts with small business and the rate did change to $95 per day. I reviewed our total rental car spend for 2022 and it was just over $50K. That must not be big enough spend for National. Avis was happy to provide a good rate for that annual spend. I have been a customer with National and Enterprise for over 20 years. I enjoyed their service and their employees were always professional and kind. They must just have too many corporate customers and are scaling back their customer base. Avis said that they have been swamped with National customers moving over to Avis.

I always use National and will continue to do so. However, my last rental out of St. Louis was absolutely horrible. I did share the experience with Customer Service and they gave me a reasonable refund. I feel this is specific to the St. Louis site. They are always rude and have terrible service.

Deceiving and unethical practice. Check and read the wording carefully! This is for a car I picked up in ABQ and returned at PHX. Nationals corporate office is located in St Louis and this review is for Nationals business practice, not particularly the location, thus the review here. Every vehicle type says "unlimited miles". Or does it? I picked a Luxury model which was available at the time of reservation. I can't find one now. After speaking to an agent, I was told "yes, the luxury models charged .40 a mile". So watch out, they'll stick these models in and charge a totally different price structure. Sneaky. The mileage cost more than the reservation so my total was more than double what I was expecting. Yes, my fault for not reading carefully but honestly there was nothing to make my think I had to check for mileage charges. I'm an Executive Elite and rent about once a month so I'm not new to this. Never been charged for mileage in decades of renting cars (at other companies). Guess I was extremely lucky? Well I finally got hit and hit hard. May have to take my business elsewhere.

Every time I've used this location I've had good experiences. They take care of their Executive Elite customers... plenty of higher end cars to rent. The check out process is super easy and after grabbing the vehicle I was on the highway in less than 10 mins. They have shuttles nonstop to and from the airport across the highway. Clean lot, friendly staff, plenty of vehicle options.

On the day of our arrival, we were picked up by a completely world-weary driver who did not move from his seat to help a single passenger over the course of two terminal stops and a drop at the lot. Even though at least half of the customers he picked up were seniors with multiple bags (including gentleman who appeared to be in his 70s, with two large suitcases and a huge set of golf clubs), the driver just sat there. Upon arrival at the terminals, he didn't bother to say what airlines were there -- just noted that if you didn't get off at the other terminal, then get off here. And when we arrived at the lot, there seemed to be about six cars left in the entire facility. On the complete flip side, when we came back for departure, the lot was full, and driver Sharon was a delight -- cheery, helpful, and eager to bring everyone a smile. This location would really benefit from losing the first guy and hiring as many "Sharon"s as they can.
