Since Christian Science Reading Rooms seem to be an almost ubiquitous part of urban (and suburban) landscape, and since I had never been in one, and because I am a naturally curious person, I popped in here one day when I was at Chocolate Soup buying clothes for my niece. I had never noticed the Christian Science Reading Room in this subtle shopping center before, so after spotting it, realizing I had 20 minutes to kill, and just wanted to see what they were all about, I decided to pop in. Not being a Christian Scientist or really having anything but very surface knowledge of the faith, I found the place rather interesting. As a Catholic, we don't have places like this strewn about the country. These are just nice little rooms for people to do research, study, pray or even purchase materials about their religion. The woman working was more than happy to talk to me, even after I confessed my lack of knowledge. They were interested in my interest. I am not planning on converting or anything, but I always think its nice to gain knowledge of other faiths, regardless. If you have any curiosity about Christian Scientists, stop in to one of these reading rooms....they will be more than happy to fill you in.
