I took my adopted cat to this place for a wellness exam----and was told that it was the office's across-the-board policy not to allow the owner of a cat to be physically present, in the same room as the cat, while the examination was being conducted. To me, there is simply no rational reason or basis for such a policy; and I question whether it is even consistent with professional veterinary ethics. Since Animal Health & Healing absolutely refused to make an exception to this policy for me, and instead rigidly insisted that I could not be physically present with my cat in the same room while her examination was being conducted, I therefore decided there would be no examination. Instead, I simply took the cat home, without an examination of her being done. Based on this very recent experience, I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to bring their beloved pet to Animal Health & Healing.

I don't write many bad reviews, but I feel cheated out of $675. Plus, I need to pay for another appt at my previous vet bc I’m uncomfortable with the care we received.
1. I wasn't allowed to watch the $165 mystery exam that Dr Garden did in a separate room WITHOUT me (7/2024, so not Covid). This is incredibly disconcerting, shady, unprofessional and breaks every bit of trust.
EVERY new patient should be made aware that they can't watch the exam because I NEVER would have made the appt.
I should have walked out immediately once I realized I couldn't see his exam, but I was caught off guard since it's so bizarre and shady.
2. One side of his chest is significantly larger and lumpy, which was and IS still my main concern. After bringing him back from the mystery exam, she didn't mention his chest being lopsided and something to keep an eye on.
I asked her about it, and she said she did a thorough exam and didn't feel any lumps. I showed her where the obvious lumps are so she could feel them, and she felt his chest from the front and said it feels symmetrical. I said they're noticeable when feeling from behind, but she didn't try.
After driving home and asking others about his chest, they said it's definitely noticeably different and were shocked she didn't address it. So, I drove back and waited until she had a moment to look again.
The vet wouldn't talk to me and had a staff member bring my dog back to her. The staff member came back with him and said it's fine and Dr. Garden didn't mention it bc it's just fatty tissue, which is NOT TRUE because she told me both sides felt even when I asked her to check again. She couldn't even come talk to me after not mentioning it the first time and me driving home and back bc of her lack of attention and concern.
Even if it's fatty tissue, I should have been told about it for simple education and so I didn't notice it later and worry. I should have been told when there is a reason to worry and what kind of changes to look for.
3. I expected to have a conversation about general wellness and prevention during the appt. Isn't that why I paid extra? The flyers in a folder shouldn't count as providing a wellness consultation.
The rest of the staff, especially Karen, is incredible

I don't write many bad reviews, but I feel cheated out of $675. Before writing this, I called the clinic to see if they'd make it right. So, now I need to pay for another appt at my previous vet. 1. Small family owned vet, helped our girl have a very happy last half of her life for many years by following a root cause analysis instead of isolating symptoms

It's been over twelve years, I think it is easily time to update my review. To be honest, things really haven't changed that much, I still think Dr. Gardner is awesome and I like the fact that they also practice holistic medicine. The entire staff is passionate about what they do and you can see the love they have for their patients. I recently had a very sick boy and made frequent calls to their office and they had so much patience with me. In the end, I had to make the call and lead my boy across the Rainbow Bridge and they were so kind and showed so much compassion towards me. When anyone ask me for vet recommendations, Animal Health & Healing is the first one I tell them about. I now live in IL and make the drive so my dogs have the best care.

The staff at Animal Health & Healing is second to none. The first time I called, they hadn’t even seen my dog before - Karen was so patient answering all my questions and was just genuinely so kind. I then scheduled an appointment with Dr. Garden for my Lab, Yadi, and I have never looked back. She has given me the best advice and guidance when it comes to supplements and maintaining his overall wellness that while he’s almost 11 - he’s as spry as he was 5 or 6 years ago. I could go on and on, but if you are able to get an appointment I highly recommend 10/10.

I was looking forward to getting real insights when it comes to digestive system of my dog, supplement recommendations etc. instead, I got reference to two websites to work with and make a selection myself. Other than that the doctor and stuff were nice. We were treated well.

My last two cats were rescues, around two years old, both females, from the same litter. One was a black cat with tuxedo markings, Julie, and the other was a tortoiseshell, Janie. Just cats, but both sweethearts. Janie developed stomach problems, and no matter what I fed her, she couldn't keep it down. After several trips to a reputable Vet clinic, and various treatments, including an endoscopy, the vet there had no answers. I asked about holistic therapy and I got a shrug. Somehow I found Animal Health and Healing. Dr. Garden spent plenty of time quizzing me and checking over Janie. She asked me about food allergies, and I said I didn't know. She did some tests and found out that Janie was allergic to almost every meat that most cats commonly eat. Janie got on a diet of more unusual meats and was able to keep her food down and gain weight. With careful checking and monitoring, Dr. Garden kept track of both cat's health and age changes over the years and they both lived long, healthy lives. They were around two years old when I adopted them in 2007 and Janie died in 2021, at 16, and Julie died just a month ago at 17. I give Dr. Garden and her caring staff all the credit for keeping my sweet girls well and happy for so long. Everybody has to say something about the cost: How valuable is the health of your pets? You get what you pay for. My cats were worth every cent.

Dr. Snodgrass and her team are amazing. We are thankful we finally found a compassionate vet. They are holistic, thorough, patient, and kind.
