I would not have given 1 star if that was possible!Affton Veterinary Clinic is not interested in an end of life dog. My dog is 16 years old and has a grade 5/6 heart murmur. The meds he is on so far have been working fine, and with the condtion he is in, it is day to day. So far I have been blessed with expectations of his life expectancy. Affton refused to renew his heart medication unless he came in for another exam. The exam would have been pointless and would have changed nothing. Fortunately for my dog and myself I have found a veterinarian who believes as I do. He actually is not in it just for the money. This vet actually cares about your pet and you and your situation as well. Affton did me a big favor and I would not recommend them for anything. They are more interested in money and protocols than what is best for your pet. UNACCCEPTABLE!

I've been using this clinic for years due to its closeness to my home and work and have had many great experiences. However, I feel like things have been starting to slip lately and decided to share after things came to a head yesterday. My dog has recently gone into congestive heart failure. Dr. Brooks and the team have been providing ongoing care, and I am visiting the clinic multiple times each month for medication refills. I contacted them on Tuesday afternoon for two more refills and was told that these refills should be good to go. However, Wednesday afternoon I received a call from a staff member (I'll keep the name to myself at this time) who informed me that I wouldn't be able to refill the meds w/out first being seen. Because I only had 1/3 pills needed to make it through the day on Thursday (the next day), the staff member told me that I would need to drop the dog off on Thursday to be examined. Mind you, I've had a toddler w/ the extremely contagious and nasty stomach bug that's currently going around and was already planning on tagging in for my mom to watch the kiddo, so I was already feeling stressed about how I was going to try to work from home while watching a sick toddler. I expressed this concern to the staff member and shared how I didn't see how I could possibly get the dog into see them on Thursday. She told me they were booked next week and didn't really give me any other options. It almost got to the point where we were just going back and forth about this, and my frustration w/ not being offered options, when I let her know that I needed to stop talking about this issue b/c I was getting to the point of not having anything nice to say. The staff member hung up on me. I immediately called back, b/c at this point I still hadn't made any progress on obtaining the meds that my dog at this point needs to stay alive and was upset to the point of tears. This time the staff member acted very friendly after I mentioned being hung up on and had asked her if we could work together to figure out the med situation. She did leave a message for Dr. Brooks, who I guess approved the needed refills b/c we received a follow-up call hours later. This whole encounter left a bad taste in my mouth. If I felt like I had the option, I would go elsewhere and will definitely be doing so with future pets. I can understand that my dog needs to be seen for evaluation with refills but think this should have been communicated more effectively in advance. Other than what the staff members says should have been on the cardboard box that I received w/ one of the meds (and didn't need) about three months ago, there have been absolutely no reminders that this appointment was needed. The other two meds, which I pick up on a monthly basis, bear no reminders on the labels. I am a responsible pet owner who brings my pet to every appointment required without complaint. I didn't appreciate the lack of communication or the way that the staff member was communicating with me yesterday. I don't know that I have ever had such a negative experience with a business, especially one that I have frequented for such a long period of time. To say that I'm hurt and disappointed doesn't even begin to capture how I feel about this. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

Dr Brooks was our pets Vet from the minute she took over Affton Veterinary Clinic until we moved to Las Vegas, NV in November 2019. We loved her and her staff. We have not found a Vet in Vegas that we trust and respect as much as we did Dr. Brooks. We truly miss her.

We found Affton Vet about a year ago when we were unhappy with our current vet and looking for a change. Just so happens Dr. Brooks and Dr. Frei are both amazing at what they do and we love them! Every visit we've had nothing but great things to say about them. The front desk staff is consistent, friendly, and ever helpful when I call in or come in. This alone is refreshing compared to several vets we've seen. We never have a long wait. They are understanding of my helicopter mom attitude with my pets. They also seem to put my pets at ease. More recently, Dr. Brooks discovered a heart issue with one or our pups. We ended up needing to take him to Mizzou emergency. After a late night emergency visit, I was overwhelmed and confused about his prognosis. When I called to ask Dr. Brooks to help me understand, she took the time to explain their findings so I could easier understand what is going on with him. Another time, one of our pets had a procedure by Dr. Brooks to remove mast cell tumors. Our dog was less than pleased and removed all her staples. When I frantically called in a panic, they were able to reassure me and took care of it promptly. She also had some issues with not wanting to wear the cone (which was a must given the eaten staples). They told me to come up and they helped me secure the inflatable donut we had for her. Worked like a charm and she wore it for weeks comfortably. If you're looking for a new vet to call home, check this place out. It's conveniently located just outside of the city.

I take my 2 cats Mickey and Winky to Affton Veterinary Clinic to see Dr. Tara Brooks and she is absolutely the BEST veterinarian and she is very caring and compassionate and very knowledgeable and she listens to your concerns. Her staff is the Best at everything and they are very caring and compassionate as well! The prices are reasonable, and I recommend Affton Veterinary Clinic to anyone who really cares about their pets, and wants to receive the very best care for their cats and dogs. They are AWESOME!!!

I was going to Eureka from Shrewsbury to take my animals to the vet. I wanted a place closer, however this vet is close, but the handful of times we have been there our appointment time is never accurate. We wait over 30 minutes, sometimes more, and what should be an in and out appointment ends up being almost 2 hours. I want to like this place, as I like the employees and vet, but I cannot stand when you bring your pets in and have to wait 30-45 minutes past the appt. time. They need to figure out a solution to be on time, and if not, a simple apology, or any communication would be great.

My furbabie was not eating, took him to Affton Vet and found out he had some bad teeth. They put him on antibiotics, brought him back week later for canine extraction and now hes like a pup again with very BIG appetite I must add! Love this place, esp Dr. Brooks, will be taking my other furbabie there next. Pricing very fair and I do my research on that part due to the fact I have THREE. Meet Deezle (Aka DENNIS THE MENACE) and that's KITTIES box he loves (yes, he has real bed too lol)

I am very happy with the service I received for my cat (and my dog). We recently starting going to see Dr. Fri and I am so pleased that she is my vet. My cat was very sick and I was fearful he would need to be put down since he had stopped eating and peeing. Dr. Fri was able to manually dislodge a blockage which saved his life. I am so grateful and appreciate her going the extra mile for us. I will refer her to all my friends because she is the best!

Affton Vet is awesome! They helped take care of our beloved pet in her last years of life. Always patient even if we called several times a day or week.
