perhaps no better or worse than any other used car place. to be fair grounds and buildings are well kept. and Dave the salesperson seemed very friendly and knowledgeable.
however they basically sold me a nice car with a bad engine. and there is no way they did not know it unless they are incompetent or they just did not look at it. there were quite a few thousands of miles put on it since it was last titled.
i’m not going to go into all the technical details but two critical issues occurred with the 2011 explorer within weeks. the starter failed and the compressor mounting failed due to a previous very sub-standard repair. when the compressor mounting fails the alternator stops working. either of these two situations will likely result in being stranded which can have absolutely disastrous consequences. thankfully nothing like that happened.
there were some other issues they agreed to check. problem is i’m 100 mi away. they told me all issues fixed. i was not satisfied with their fixes but clearly i’m not going to make multiple 100 mi trips.
i’m pretty handy with cars so i just plug my way thru it. i’ve gotten almost 40,000 mi so far starting from 140,000. is $10,000 for a 2011 with 140,000 mi on it a good deal? not sure. are my miles trouble free? absolutely not. should they be?
tires were about worn out too. i do some drivin. 40,000 since last Nov 5 months. if i can get two years or 100,000 miles i’m happy. they sure don’t make cars like they used to and unfortunately the used car dealers run up against all of that.
i still have plenty of diagnosis left to do as i continue to work around 60 hrs/wk. if i can get this thing to pass inspection in Nov 2025 i’ll be very lucky indeed ! quite possibly it will require expensive engine repair or replacement. could easily be 5 grand!
