One of my favorite places to visit in the state. Talk about wildlife viewing, so many bird species, amphibians, reptiles, fish, insects. The plants are incredible. A great refuge, protecting the unique features of the Missouri Swamp. Love it.

The auto tours are everything. Little unknown place many don't travel to and it's the best little gem of the area. Places to park and see sights, animals galore and a new tourist center.

We just did the drive through this time. It was beautiful. When we arrived, nothing was open. I have a National Park pass so there was no cost to enter.
On a short walk we added 6 birds to our life list! Had we stayed longer we would have added more! The water and trees were teaming with wildlife.
Next time I'm planning on spending at least half a day

I like bringing my dog here sometimes to walk the boardwalk trail or the overlook behind the building. From what I’ve seen the place is kept up nice. Went into the building once to look at the exhibits and gift shop. Gift shop was cash-only. The people working inside that day were friendly

My Grandpa Green used to take us out there when I was a kid. Brought back a lot of memories and a great place to walk my dog, Rocky. Great scenery and a beautiful day.

This was a great visit. The location is beautiful and easy to get to, the staff onsite were all happy to be there, and of course it was a pleasant environment to be in. Can't complain about anything.

The visitor center was amazing. And the trails were fantastic.

Dog-friendliness: Great place to walk the dog.

The hike is relatively short along the boardwalk, but offers some great views within the actual swamp. During the spring and summer you will see plenty of wildlife such as snakes and aquatic insects, and the fall and winter offers fantastic bird watching opportunities. The drive around the refuge costs $3 per vehicle but is worth it to see the natural state of southeast Missouri.Restrooms: There are small restroom stops along the route that actually well kept.
