“I recently purchased an Ed Brown 1911 Commander 9mm barrel to replace the one in my budget 1911 built in the Philippines to GI specs. While the description highlighted the "drop-in" feature, I was reluctant to make the leap thinking there would be custom fitting outside my skill and tool capability. After much consternation, I purchased the barrel with the realization I might need a gunsmith.I'm delighted to report the barrel truly dropped into my budget 1911 Commander and required only light sanding of 1200 grit sand paper on the mating edges, including the barrel bushing. After a few minutes of manually cycling the action and running some snap caps I was ready to hit the range. My 1911 ran flawlessly with a variety of 9mm ammo.I now have a 1911 "keeper" with the guts of an Ed Brown original. Who would have thought the slide and frame of this budget firearm was built with tight enough specs to house a barrel of this quality after 1 hour of light sanding.
