I would like to emphasize that I have had extremely positive experiences with the esteemed Healthy Living Team, Group-ex Classes, Aquatics Staff, and the Special Functions organized by the North Kansas City YMCA. It is a bustling establishment, and I commend the staff for their exceptional dedication in providing assistance to numerous members and visitors on a daily basis. The YMCA serves as a vital pillar within the community, and this particular center wholeheartedly comprehends and champions that notion!

If you are white playing pickleball or black playing basketball in the gym you'll be happily helped and even encouraged but if you're Hispanic and dare to try to play pickleball they will gatekeep and discriminate. My mother is a senior citizen and has recently been diagnosed with cancer. She tried pickleball since her diagnosis this summer and fell in love. I've been trying to consistently support my mom and go with her to play outdoors but now that it is cold and need an indoor court and this YMCA added pickleball markings in the gym, I thought it'd be a good idea to try this YMCA during the winter months till it warms up again. Big mistake, I spoke to Nick who is the director over the phone to find out the rules and availability, he told me anytime in the evenings first come first serve and the basketball players cannot play full court, so technically there are 4 basketball courts and within that 6 pickleball courts are marked. It has been a horrible experience, even when we arrive first the staff has come up with excuses from they don't have keys to the closet with net (while other equipment was clearly out), to only being able to play on court #1 and making us move our whole set up when we were told by Nick any open court, to never having a gym monitor available to open the equipment closet (and they get angry when you ask for help) and if you're lucky to find one, refer back to no one has keys, then once you actually get playing you'll have employees come harrass you that you should leave because the basketball players want another court open even though we are only taking up 1/6 or 1/4 of the gym while the rest is basketball. The employee who tried to kick us off name is Argyll who's teen son plays basketball, we rightfully refused since we were there first and then he must have advised his son to be rude because they started to throw balls into our court on purpose, I knew it was on purpose because when I would try to return the ball to someone, no one would claim it. In the video you see my mom being refused accommodation to play because Argyll most likely told the basketball players to take up the entire court when they saw us arrive to set up, they were only in one corner when we arrived, Nick then came and told us to leave the gym. So they are all scheming together to prevent anyone other than basketball players to use the gym in the evenings.Nick who told us they weren't allowed to play full court, all off a sudden now allows it, he changed his rules after he met me in person and found out we're not white cause on the phone he was very nice and once he knew my race it was like a light switch change. The stress he and his staff has caused my mom while fighting cancer and simply trying to play something she loves is unforgivable and evil. I don't wish this type of discrimination on anyone, but especially on a senior citizen dealing with cancer.

I travel throughout my city going from Y to Y to check out the various layouts and to compare the pool in each one. I thoroughly enjoy the North Kansas City facility. It is larger and less congested than others throughout the city. The only drawback is this Y doesn't have a heated pool as some of the others do which is surprising and unfortunate. Although disappointing it's still an enjoyable place to work out/fulfill my health and wellness needs. The comfort experienced here is spectacular!

Cheryl is the most despicable person to be behind the counter. I don't know why she is still employed. Many guests have filed complaints about her and I called twice to get ahold of Nick ( the manager to file a complaint) Both times the the staff who answered the phone agreed with me and thinks she is detestable. Unbelievable. I've had to resort to go to other YMCA's just to avoid interacting with her.

The new basketball floor is very nice. The pool is very well cared for. The gym is clean and the overall ambiance is nice.

Just about he only gym in the ENTIRE KC area with a pool, sauna, steamroom, and jacuzzi is arguably the most frustrating place to work out.Jacuzzi has been broke for like 3 damn months. The weight room layout makes zero sense. I spend more time walking around to the next machine than actually lifting. Somebody that knows how to properly arrange the equipment needs to come in and do so.The only reason I got a membership was for the pool, sauna, steamroom, and Jacuzzi. This place makes me so angry.

I was unable to use my membership all of the month of August due to someone not updating my account. I have called and called and today got ahold of the most rude woman I've ever experienced! She couldn't find account (exactly what I was calling about) , hatefully told me that I should have came in person which I responded that I had and was only able to use their facility one time!!! With this she kept interrupting me saying I needed to pay again for this month. Simply not addressing that I couldn't use it at all last month due to to this very kind of behavior when we came in. She was simply awful. She finally transferred me to corporate but not before adding, " I'll transfer you, but they aren't gonna do anything for you either"

I signed my son up for swim lessons. We will finish them out but we won’t go back to this YMCA. The poor instructor has too many students, she’s doing the best she can, but yeah, she’s overloaded. I’ll be going back to Platte City from now on. My son said he likes his teacher but he doesn’t feel safe with so many kids.

I have been a regular member with the YMCA - North Kansas City for over a year now. I very happy with the multitude of equipment plus the pool and the steam room. The staff has been good to work with and I have lost a little weight while maintaining a good fitness level. Great place to be a member. - Gary Lawrence

The customer service is unreal. One day I can have fantastic customer service.Another day, like today, I can be trying to get a copy of a Member ID Card at 7:54pm but they say they can’t cause their systems are shut down?
