About Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site
Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site is a pretty and extremely well-preserved old mansion with a lot of the original furniture. It is a hidden gem with amazing history, lovingly maintained and well worth the trip. The tour guides are knowledgeable, engaging, informative, and very well-informed, offering excellent historic tours. They are open to questions about the house, the family, and the times, providing great bits of info in a relaxed and unrushed manner. Visitors have full access to the house without ropes. It is a great add-on when visiting other area historic sites and state parks. The tours are very reasonably priced. The site is also decorated for Christmas with staff in period costume.

Attended the candlelight tour at Christmas. Very well attended with people asking questions concerning the home and it's collection .

Pretty place not open at 2:45pm today. No body will answer the phone😔 We drive over an hour to get there. My kids and wife was not happy.

Heard about this on our way to Illinois. Amazing history! Our guide was so informative and gave probably the best historic tour I've seen in recent years.
