Charming, rambling old second-hand bookstore with lots of space to lounge and read, and with copies kitties!
We were there on a quiet late fall afternoon; no other customers were in the store. We were welcomed when we entered but otherwise let alone to look around, which was appreciated; the store is huge and books are well sorted into multiple categories. A lovely tribute to Mansfield, the home of one of the USA's most famous authors, Laura Ingalls Wilder.

My fiance and I stumbled across this gem when we went to eat at the Mexican restaurant across the street (which we also recommend!). He and I were greeted by one of the resident bookstore cats upon arrival and throughly enjoyed their sweet feline company as we browsed. Within an hour I'd already found nearly a dozen books I just had to buy, and if we weren't pressed for time I would've browsed for much longer. The eastern thought/spirituality, folklore/anthropology, and nature writing sections were particularly wonderful and well-stocked. All the literary treasures I purchased were very affordable ($6 or under) and in good or "like new" condition. When we venture to Mansfield again next spring, we're definitely stopping at A New Chapter--for much longer, I hope! :)

Pretty apparent that the best stock is going online. Not a huge amount of inventory either. But the cats are nice.

Owner seems to care more about being rude to potential customers over parking spots than getting business. Would not visit this store ever. Id rate them as 0 stars if possible.

EDIT: I'm afraid I still haven't had time to shop at this bookstore; sadly, we're in the middle of our busiest season. But I've changed my review based on the kind reply from the owner (see below). Hopefully I will get a chance to visit soon and change this review again to a 5!This is the only bookstore between Mansfield and Springfield, MO, about 45 miles. It has supposedly recently reopened and I’ve looked forward to going in. I’ve given this poor review based on the fact that I am here on Wednesday at 4 pm, and though there is an hours sign on the door that says Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 6, they are NOT open.

I love this bookstore! Sarah is always friendly and helpful without hovering over me. She's very patient and kind with my young children as well and does her best to answer all of their questions. We love the wide selection of books and new or used, her prices can't be beat!

Great used book store on the square. A fun place to spend an hour or two. Especially if you like old books.

I have dropped by this store once or twice a year, I live in Springfield, and when I tell them what I prefer, they have remembered me each time over the past 3 years!
