Updating my past review. The owner reached and talked with me about the issues I had. Made the situation right. I appreciate the openness and care shown.

My son has level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder and one of the hardest things to accomplish for him is getting his haircut. It is extremely difficult to find someone who is patient, understanding and accommodating to cut his hair.Today, I went to Shear Madness to get those dreaded haircuts. When it was my son’s turn, he fought me hard and became a bowl of limp noodles when trying to get him to the chair. After a few minutes that felt like an eternity of struggling, Perla- who happened to be the salon manager- came to me and said “Mama, I am more than ok with cutting his hair out here. He doesn’t have to sit in the chair.” She was so patient, gentle and talked him through his entire haircut in a way HE would understand. “You see the purple (she was switching from a 2 to a 1)? We are changing it to white now- can you say white?” She would show him, let him touch it and then do a little tickle on the back of his neck to ensure him everything was going to be ok. When he moved, Perla moved too, all while continuing to cut his hair and interact with him. Half way through his haircut, another stylist came by and sat down next to them and the three of them sang baby shark, and counted, did ABC’s, and just fully submerged themselves into my son’s world. This beautiful experience brought on a wave of emotions and I will cherish this experience, Perla and the entire team at Shear Madness for the rest of my life❤️

My kids love all the Shear Madness locations. They get to play video games and choose from fun chairs to sit in. The boutique has the cutest toys. The whole atmosphere and experience is super fun. I definitely recommend for 1st haircuts or just a treat. They also offer small parties and children's spa services. How cute!?

These ladies are so patient and caring. My son refuses to have his hair cut anywhere else. We request Pearla the manager and he always does so well for her. This is huge as my son is not big on letting new people near him.

The staff at this location are always friendly and very accommodating. We drive about 30 mins from Overland Park just to go to this location as it is conveniently located and plenty of parking. If you want to go shopping or have lunch before or afterwards, this is a perfect spot.

I took my 16 month old here to have his first haircut. I booked the “first hair cut experience” which was supposed to give us double normal appointment time to make sure everyone had time to get comfortable have fun. Right off the bat the stylist seemed to be in a hurry, did not listen to what we wanted from the haircut and definitely did not listen when I told her this was hard for me to see his curls cut. She didn’t encourage my child to get comfortable or give him time to adjust, actually cut his hair without the cape and kept telling him sternly to “sit still”. The entire cut probably lasted 5 mins. The haircut it’s self was awful and our first haircut experience was awful. The manager did a good job listening to our frustration and gave me the number to the owner who I still have not gotten a return phone call back. We will never be returning to any of their locations and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Took my youngest son and daughter and they had a great experience. Sometimes my son has issues with the sound of the clipper, but with the movie on he was distracted.

Took my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter to get a haircut Saturday. The girl obviously did not know how to just “trim” Curly hair. I could have done better. Wish i hadn’t paid for seriously 3 maybe four snips and terrible braids( didn’t even part her hair straight ) Hair was uneven when we got home. Asked to have her bangs shaped up, wouldn’t trim them because she has curly hair. If you can’t trim CURLY hair say so. Will NEVER go back there.Service: Kids' cuts

We love this spot, though you can occasionally get a beautician that does not necessarily know how to cut hair very well so keep a close eye. For the most part they are wonderful and the kids look forward to getting their haircuts.

My son had his first hair cut yesterday, since it is a place for kids I figured it would be the best first place. I was wrong, I am so incredibly upset. The atmosphere was vibrant and wonderful, the cars, trains, jeep, fire truck were all great options. This was his FIRST hair cut and he was a little intimidated by everything going on which was fine, this is normal, I usually give him some time and he warms up and would be great. I feel as though the girl doing his hair was new, give your clients time to get used to their environment, we were 10 mins early and they got us right back, everything he didn’t want to immediately do she just said oh looks like we don’t want to do that today, and we were rushed to a different option. Since they only had about 6 movies you could watch, which is fine usually, I had to put my phone on a show for my son because he doesn’t watch Cartoons yet(we watch Blippi, Mrs. Rachel, language learners), so taking my own pictures was not an option. She cut his bangs, around his ears, and by his neck, then said look good mom? I like that she asked if I thought it looked good but it didn’t and he was holding still enough for her to do a good job. Everytime he moved which was not often she would roll her eyes or open them real big. When she was all done we waited for the printer to print, he got in every car at that point because he warmed up. She made comments during his appointment like, I know I’m a bad person but it’s okay, I just felt super rushed, she then asked if I wanted his hair styled and I said yes! She put gel in her hand and with one wipe swiped his hair to the side and called it good. She was done with his hair in 10 minutes if that and it’s because I asked her to even his ears out to match each other and asked her to trim areas that she just left alone all together. She wanted to use the clippers but I knew already that was not a good idea. When paying at the end (which was $36) the lady at the counter told her that her next client was there she said okay, then the lady at the counter said welcome to Saturdays, I just felt like she didn’t want to be there. If you’re a parent and it’s your first hair cut and want a good first experience, go watch some of the stylist, pick out your favorite, because I will not be back but I did hear some good stylists. I feel as though I wasted my money, his hair cut looks fine on the top but she butchered the back. I just wanted out of there. My photo I took of him for a good memory because he did great and I now can’t wait for his second cut, somewhere else.I work at a dental office, we strive for good first experiences, if you are working with kids you need to learn how to talk to them. She never once welcomed him, didn’t say his name, didn’t show him the cars, or scissors, didn’t show him the water bottle, didn’t make one thing FUN that she was doing, then spelled his name wrong on his certificate. Show Tell Do those are huge things with littles, they don’t know what your doing and it’s scary.Services: Kids' cuts

Great place to get a haircut for your kiddos. There's different chairs for them to sit in: car, motorcycle, train, firetruck, etc. (6 vehicles total) so your kid can act like they're driving the whole time. They're very kind for first haircuts and don't use clippers (just the scissors) to not scare the kid. They have screens for each of the charis so the kids can watch their choice of show from a selection. There's a lot of toys in the front of the store. The haircut with the clippers wasn't perfect. Rather, it could have used some work. I think they probably think their clippers are barber grade (they are not), so they only go over the hair once when they should be going over it several times... and there were quite a few stragglers.I will say, this would probably be a bad place to take a kid who gets overstimulated: toys, bright lights, lots of tvs, cars to ride. I imagine it would be hard for a child with sensory issues.

Went in at 12:45, there was no one getting a hair cut. They told me I would have to wait til 1:45 for my 3 year old to get her hair trimmed. Why have the doors open if no haircuts are being given? Lost a customer. Going to a salon where they actually give haircuts while they’re open.
