So, on Saturday, following Black Friday, I discovered that I had a flat tire on my trailer during my cross-country move. I searched for a tire shop nearby and found this place. I called the first time, and no one picked up. I called right back, and a guy answered, saying they were closed (although their info on Google Maps showed them being open). I told him where I was at and asked if they had my trailer tire size and what the price would be. He did have it in stock and told me the price was $130. I asked if that was the price "out the door," meaning tax and everything included? He said yes. But he said they weren't technically open today, so I told him I would get ahold of them Monday. And before I hung up, I asked him one more time how much, and again, he said $130.
I needed to get off the shoulder of the road, so I went a mile down to the next gas station. While I was there, one of the guys from the tire shop stopped in, and he was talking to a store clerk who I had mentioned I had a flat tire to. He came over and asked if I was the one with the tire issue. Yup, that's me. He said if I wanted to get it done today, they'd be willing to pull the wheel off my trailer, take it back to the shop (1 1/2 miles away) and bring it back with the new tire on it. I asked him again, how much? And again, I was told $130, everything included. I said, "fine, give me a short while to get the funds to my account." When I texted back that I was ready (within a half hour), he said he'd went to a different town (Kirksville), and he would be back in a little while. I waited patiently, then after an hour and a half, I texted him saying saying let me know when he was close. Almost an hour later he called me and said he had talked to his boss (I'm assuming the guy who answered the phone when I had first called and who told me $130), and that if they were to come and get the rim, they would have to charge me an extra $100 for doing so. I said that's not what you told me before, you said 130 out the door. He said no, it would be 170 for the tire, plus $100 unless I wanted to drive back up to the shop. I said, "What happened to you telling me it would be $130?" He said he would do it, but it would be for $170. At that point, I told him I don't do business that way, and he shouldn't say one thing and then raise the price. A person's word should be good! I had no intention to give business to someone who's word isn't any good. I told him if he wanted to call his boss and tell them I would do it if they stuck to the original price, fine. Otherwise, they weren't going to pull that on me. It seemed once they found out I was traveling alone, that they could pull this stunt. That's total BS! Dotson, or whatever name you used to go by, ought to be ashamed of yourself trying to take advantage of someone like that. Even if I was moving to Lancaster and that was the last tire shop in town, I wouldn't give them a nickel of my business after that!
So, if you choose to use this company after reading this review, that's on you. But not me, not after that! BTW... Walmart has that tire for $83 plus tax. And Menard's has that tire mounted on a new rim for $138, plus tax.
It's obvious from the reviews when the business changed hands. ☹️
