On March 13, 2018 I took my Toyota Tundra to Kirksville Motors Service Department to have a trailer brake controller installed. The truck was already prewired as part of the existing tow package. When staff in the service department finished working on my truck I noticed they had installed the controller itself in a location that was obstructed by the steering wheel and was not easily visible so as to safely monitor braking with a horse in tow. I was told by Kirksville Motors service staff that they had attempted to install the controller in other locations but said when they did that, a fuse kept blowing so they had no other options as to where the controller could be installed. When I got home and hooked on to my trailer I found there was no power to the brake controller. I took my truck and trailer to a local business to inspect why this brake controller had no power. The mechanic there inspected the wiring and said the wiring had been incorrectly wired and in fact had been wired backwards, said the fuse was currently blown as a result (and had nothing to do with placement of the controller but instead with incorrect wiring) and he in turn had to redo the job that Kirksville Motors failed to do correctly. I contacted Kirksville Motors, (Service Manager) who said he would have to verify the work by his service dept. was done incorrectly. The service manager spoke with the mechanic who rewired the controller and said he personally verified with this mechanic that he did indeed have to rewire the controller because it was not done correctly by Kirksville Motors's service staff and had no power to the controller as a result. The service manager at Kirksville Motors said he would only refund $55.00 of what I paid Kirksville Motors ($100.28) to do this work. After filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office to request a full refund, Kirksville Motors continues to refuse to honor a full refund. As of today's date, 06/13/18, I have not received any refund from this company for a botched installation of a brake controller. They advertise as being a new company with a new philosophy. The new philosophy related to my experience, would appear to be to take the customer's money, do incomplete, poor work, and then refuse to make it right. I'll never do business with this company again. Melinda C.
