Possibly my favorite record shop in town. Staff are very knowledgeable and kind and their albeit limited floorspace is very well used and organized.

The staff is wonderful and I love the location. They typically have pretty good stock too. I used to go on a pretty regular basis.
But I can no longer recommend mills record company to anyone, due to witnessing how the owner treats her staff. I’ve seen her belittle her clerks multiple times. Even when I was being cashed out, the owner was condescending to me and the clerk. She’s also been getting more controlling with customers. It feels like there’s a new “rule” every time I enter the store. For example, she found a drink sitting on the counter. The woman went customer by customer accusing them of leaving it.
Most of my friends having similar stories about her as well. I’d skip going here all together.

Wide selection of records and books. I had sticker shock when it came to a used 8 year old book by Ann Patchett that was in good condition. For a book that originally cost $16.99, it was priced at $12!
Also, I wound up putting back the book I intended to buy, because the woman (owner?) at the front desk was unpleasant to other customers, and I didn't want to support a business that acted like that.

Bag policy is ridiculous. No I will not be leaving my purse that is smaller than what the sign says at the register. You cannot fit a cd or a vinyl in my purse. It’s a small purse. Just looked on instagram and couldn’t even find the new bag policy. I liked this record store, it’s close to my house and work but will no longer be shopping here because of this new policy.

I really don’t like being treated like a criminal for being brown and having a tote bag. I’m currently standing outside the doors and can see customers with their bags still on them. They weren’t asked to keep their bag behind the counter so why was I? I would really like the dark haired woman at the counter to answer that for me. There are customers in the shop at the moment who didn’t have to do that. Do better, this is 2024 and you’re located in a city with a large black population.

This is the kind of place where you can spend a full 90 minutes just poking around, and keep finding stuff. Great selection of both new and, especially, used records and books. Not cheap, but I suppose that's the business, and the employees were all friendly. You do have to check your bag, but what are you going to to? It's not the only store in the area with that policy.
