I made a stop at the symphony offices to pick up some tickets. To my delight, I encountered a very helpful and courteous symphony employee at the ticket desk. The building is a historical gem, a beautiful old school building with high ceilings, huge wood floors, and stunning brick architecture.

We went to hear a KC Symphony presentation of Beethoven's 9th Symphony on an afternoon in June. As always the Kaufmann Center glistened inside and out. The accompanying works were wonderful, but the 9th was just so beautiful we were really moved. The Symphony Hall at the Kaufmann is magnificent and the Symphony matched the hall's brilliance with their own. What a show!!

Kauffman Center Ticket PricingThis performance venue is fantastic with great acoustics and varied performances. However their ticket pricing is too rigid. In New York City discounted tickets to many venues a few days before the performance are readily available.Kauffman does not do that. I attended a performance on Sunday and the auditorium was less than half full. Seats are the most perishable commodity on this planet! Their expirery date is to day. They have zero value if they’re not filled! This venue does not even have discounted tickets the day of the performance. The Board of Directors needs to think like business people not enabled aristocracy. Tickets for events that are not selling well should be reduced in price. Instead of the reduced price going out on the Internet they should offer the reduced price to people who occasionally attend performances but not to season ticket holders. On an airplane people dont ask other passengers what they paid.

When we had to cancel our trip to the symphony very last minute, because one of our party was in the hospital, I called and the symphony staff were very kind and understanding. They gave us a credit on our account. They were not able to refund parking but we were so glad we didn't completely lose out. We have the voucher that can be used in the next 6 months.

The Symphony is one of my favorite sophisticated nights out on the KC town. The Kauffman center is a beautiful building, great for bringing out-of-town visitors. Prepay for your garage parking when purchasing your event tickets. Come early for a glass of wine and balcony people watching to make sure you're on time for the show. The KC Symphony has great advertising from social media, emails to old fashioned mailers to keep you in the loop on their variety of all age shows. Our favorites are the live orchestra movie nights! Can't go wrong with a night of Star Wars or Harry Potter! Beautiful venue with even more talented musicians!

Went online to purchase tickets for Christmas Festival. Was disappointed when I saw that they require my medical records to enter. Will never patronize this establishment again.

After nearly two miserable years the Symphony is BACK! And just as good as before the COVID epidemic. If you have a mask and you've been vaccinated, full concerts with near pre-pandemic attendance are now on the program! Masks and proof of vaccination are now required to get into the Kauffman Center, but it al seems to be going seamlessly. I was concerned that there could be real back ups getting into the building with the new requirements, especially in that cattle chute entrance from the parking structure, but it all goes extremely fast and it doesn't take any longer to enter than before the pandemic. Just be sure to have your vaccination card and photo ID in hand as you go into the building. Tonight's concert, with an extremely grand program featuring Bruch's Violin Concerto and Brahms 1st Symphony was thrilling. It was all good, but the Bruch was exceptional, with an amazing young soloist named Randall Goosby who is clearly going to be a superstar in the next few years. Goosby is one of those people who clearly lives IN the music, and his instrument (a Guarneri that's nearly 300 years old) is an extension of himself. His intonation and melodicism throughout the concerto were just gleaming, warm and golden. In the unparalleled acoustics of Helzberg Hall it was was an absolutely memorable performance! This is typical of the kind of music-making we've become accustomed to experiencing by the KC Symphony. I've been privileged in what has become a ridiculously long life to have heard many of the world's greatest orchestras in some of the finest halls on the planet and, folks, what's happening now, right here in Kansas City, is every bit at that level. I can honestly say that I have NEVER heard a better hall than Helzberg, and on nights like tonight when everything comes together so spectacularly I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you will not hear better music anywhere. If you haven't given yourself the gift of attending a symphony concert in Kansas City, what are you waiting for? Run, do not walk, to get tickets, before everyone finally figures out just how good this orchestra and this hall are and tickets end up only being available through inheritance!

For my 600th Yelp review, I would like to recognize the Kansas City Symphony. I love our symphony. What a wonderful, significant contribution to our city they make. There is nothing better than an evening at the Kauffman Center with professional, talented musicians under the leadership of Michael Stern. If you've never been to the symphony, or don't want to commit to a regular performance, check out the wildly popular and FREE Symphony Happy Hour! Reserve your ticket, have a glass of wine, and then listen to about an hour's worth of chamber music. It is so much fun, and a great way to dip your toe into the symphony. From there, check their event page for longer, more specific performances, but you really can't go wrong with any selection. I highly recommend their film concert series, where the symphony plays the live score of a movie, which is projected on a big screen above the stage. It's a phenomenal experience, I highly encourage you to take your favorite date and enjoy- I know it's one of my most memorable date nights. During the covid shutdown, the symphony hosted mobile music box concerts and symphony in the park. What a wonderful way for the community to safely access the arts. I'm very excited for the 2021 season, most likely virtual at first, but hopefully resuming to in-person concerts very soon.
