Admission is free but donations are encouraged. The gal at the desk was super helpful and it was so lovely to wander about in such a gorgeous place. The third floor is dedicated to local Kansas City history. Just a fantastic visit, with a gorgeous view. 10/10 if you want a beautiful place to spend some time and learn, cannot recommend it enough!!

Found this place on accident.
It was ok, as there wasn't much to look at.
They made a big deal about me bringing my camera in. I can respect not pictures. I didn't want to leave it out in the car.

Good museum to learn about a rich white family in the 1900s. Plus an exhibit on Kansas City upstairs. I was disappointed by how euphemistic the placards were about segregation and slavery and the ethnic cleansing of indigenous people.
The building is gorgeous.

Beautiful home and property. Only the first floor is dedicated to the house and the Long family which was unfortunate as we wanted to learn more about the Long Family and the home. However, second floor is dedicated to the history of KC which was fascinating. Overall the restoration that had been completed was amazing! It was awesome that the museum was free to view and walk through and it was not busy for a Sunday at all. The building is kept well cool which was great for a day that was hitting 100 degrees.
My 7 year old enjoyed most of it as well.
The Elixir downstairs was delicious and beautiful as well.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable about the area and property.
Can’t wait to see the rest of the buildings.

Only spent two hours, got (almost) completely through viewing / experiencing the first floor displays & exhibits. Write down many (21!) names of people in K.C. history. Highly recommend bringing a notebook and a camera (the guides'll explain its use.) There are various special guided displays at certain times of the day. I ran out of time to enjoy the gift shop... and all the 4 floors completely! My last time visiting was 30+ years ago. Spread your visits out over a few weeks. Beware, parking is along the wide (enough) streets. Wear comfy shoes & clothing.

This is an extraordinary building once owned by the Long family and now an eclectic modern history museum of Kansas City. It's free to enter. I love art and history yet find the curation of this collection a bit all over the place. When you go, start with the movie on the third floor for a good understanding of the history of the building and the family. The first floor is dedicated to the Long family history. The basement has billiards room and working soda fountain. The 2nd floor is primarily a "History of Kansas City" (mildly whitewashed) with oddly few artifacts but a lot of reading. I am not quite sure what to make of third floor installations. Overall, it is a good day out and definitely worth seeing, but could use more cohesion imho. The volunteers were wonderful. Street parking.

Wow. What a surprise. The soda fountain, Elixer, is excellent! High quality at decent prices. The soda fountain attendants were top notch! A plus is the soda fountain also serves liquor with their ice cream if you want. LOL!
Took my grandson for the soda fountain and fell in love with the museum. Great mixture of Kansas City history and artifacts. Super clean and impressive. We both had a great time.

My group scheduled a private tour and we could not have been treated better. The building has been beautifully renovated recently. The second floor is of main interest because that is where all of the exhibits relating directly to Kansas City are located. The third floor contains a comfortable theater, where a movie about the Long family is shown. In my opinion, the movie is over long and not terribly engaging. Unfortunately, the Long heirs sold off most of their belongings so the rooms are quite beautifully re-furbished, but not with original pieces. The neighborhood is slowly becoming gentrified, and there are many beautiful homes and vistas throughout the area.

Magnificent old mansion built 1909, I think, by R.A. Long. Of Longview farm fame. There is a documentary about Mr. Long and his family. Only 27 minutes long, I recommend watching it.Very interesting displays to look at. More of a history of Kansas City, not just about the Longs. The house is really worth seeing. I will add a pic of art glass window on main stairs.

The artifact and art display esp the European Art are amazing! Bring your lunch with you though.. the cafe serves only coffee and the restaurant offered an extremely limited menu and barely edible food. We were here during the Lunar celebration. Huge crowd but not much choices to eat. The restaurant offered what i think is supposed to be Asian food. But God! The chefs need an education on what Asian food taste and look like!. We did not come here for the food but if anything should be improved..it is the cafe and food choices. Love the art and the whole ambience though.
