Really solid local find. So many used records ranging from, on average, $5-$10-ish. Staff doesn't bug you, the music playing is good. Only complaint is most music falls under "rock", no specific sub genres. Did spend on a pile of vinyl and am overall so happy we went here. This is a must go to vinyl shop when visiting KC.

Amazing! We found what we were looking for on vinyl and also a few used CD's to play in the car. Friendly staff. Fun & weird basement with mystery bags of music . Street parking, safe neighborhood.

Attended a live performance in the basement. Little nervous as there appeared to be only one narrow stairway to get it of this fire trap. Lots of rockabilia, and vinyl of all kinds. Management might think about bringing in a food/drink vendor for the performances and dimming the lights...

Good selection. I mostly browse the classical and jazz cds, which is obviously in the lower numbers, but nevertheless worthwhile.

So happy with my trip here. We came to round out the vinyl collection, thinking it would be the first stop of 2 or 3... nope. Had to put some back!

Great store -- a very nice selection for both new and second hand vinyl records. The new stock is not just new releases, but albums originally released over the last five decades or so.The staff are very friendly and are willing to answer all my newbie questions! Other local-ish stores have not been so helpful or have turned their nose up at me for looking for 90s and 2000s music. We stopped in last Friday just to browse the new arrivals. As we were checking out, I casually mentioned that I was looking for a record that is quite popular -- I could order it online, but that would take the fun out of it. Well, about 30 minutes later the shop used my rewards account to find my number and call me and tell me they'd just come across one in their newest batch of records they were pricing up, if I wanted it! That's what I call service!I will always try and spend my record budget here instead of at the big box stores or "prime" online shops!

For reviewers who are misinformed about the meaning of LPs, they stand for 33.3 RPM 12" "Long Playing" vinyl records. They first appeared in the 1950s as distinct from 78 RPM and 45 RPM Extended Play records. They have nothing to do with lasers. They are currently undergoing a revival and still being produced. Enjoy them while you still can, although you will need to have a long playing record player and connected speaker system to listen to them. Steve G.

If you're on the hunt for a quirky local record store, Josey Records is going to be it for you in the heart of KC. It took me a while to finally make it here, but I had the day off of work and was on the hunt for a holiday record to add to our collection. I will say, if I had any critiques it would be that their holiday section could have been a bit more robust, BUT it was the week before Christmas and seeing that they still had some interesting ones I was counting my blessings. I love how charming this little store is, the folks working were so kind and helpful, and they had a ton of records - used, new, you name it. Kind of reminded me of a much smaller version of Love Garden in Lawrence. Overall it definitely has good vibes and I'm sure I'll return sometime soon.
