Okay but not great. I was here for four nights on a business trip. When I left in the morning, the thermostat was on 70 but each day when I came back, the thermostat was on 63...making the room cold. And the hotel restaurants have no meaningful vegetarian options. Breakfast opens after I'm at work....later than other Hyatt's. First night, they didn't empty my rooms trash. It was restored well but I prefer a newer hotel. Not a great experience.

Nice Historic Ambiance, but Some Drawbacks
The hotel has a nice ambiance, with a historic feel that’s reminds me of the Chicago Athletic Club. The lobby bar is very well-stocked, attractive with good seating, and the staff are knowledgeable, which is a plus. The rooms are on the smaller side, but that’s typical for older buildings. However, the bathroom in our room was quite large, which was a pleasant surprise.
Views vary greatly depending on which side of the hotel you're on. Unfortunately, our room faced the convention center, which wasn't very attractive. The windows are thinner, so noise can be an issue; I'd recommend opting for a higher floor to minimize this. The hotel is also very popular with wedding groups, which adds to the busyness.
Staff were a bit mixed, some were very friendly and helpful and some definitely gave off a bit of a "you're bothering me" vibe. On the whole I'd say it was positive but definitely not anything impressive.
One downside to note: I can't recommend spending on property for food and drinks. They don’t award Hyatt points if there’s alcohol on the check, which was disappointing and something to consider if you're trying to maximize your points. It's unfortunate since I did enjoy the lobby bar, but I don't appreciate it when properties skirt around program rules after I choose a location specifically because they participate in World of Hyatt.
Overall I think I'd try a different property if I stayed downtown again.
UPDATE: The hotel proactively reached out to address the points situation. I appreciated the effort although I never did get a definite answer on the policies.

The hotel was beautiful, even the bulk conference rooms were very nice. The check in process was stunningly simple, we did everything online and then grabbed the room keys as we walked in and straight to our rooms. The food options are great and yummy, even the food they served at the work conference I attended surprised me - all around I had a great time staying here and would absolutely stay again if the opportunity arises.
Safety: I hadn’t ever been into Kansas City but was completely blown away by the walkability of the area the hotel is located, how clean the area was and overall safe I felt walking alone as a younger women. I am overly cautious and usually would’ve never walked even the short .2 mile jaunt I took one evening to a store down the road. It was bright, there were people walking around but no one gave me a hard time or even noticed me, and I think it was the safest I’d felt in a bigger city alone ever.
Walkability: 10/10 - sidewalks are clean, safe, and easily walkable

I came to visit and stood in the parking lot to see what options there are to stay in that hotel and a woman came out who said she is Valet's manager and she treated me very badly.

I was in the private park with my family, I was waiting for the Toluca team to sign my son's shirt, my family was looking at the hotel prices when the valet parking attendant came to tell us to leave the park, we tried to explain that I was only there for a moment while I was making a decision to rent for 2 nights but the attitude of the parking manager ran us away saying that we cannot be there even for 5 minutes with the attitude of a person who says I will never return to stay for even 1 hour No. I recommend this place I am looking for a place to be at peace with my family I did not come here to lose peace

I travel, a lot, and I never wanted to leave this hotel. It is so beautiful, I invited friends to come over so that I could show it off. We had an absolute blast at the Friday night Drag

KC brides, please do not stay here or think about booking an event here for your wedding. Easily the worst part of my wedding weekend was having to deal with Hotel KC and their abysmal costumer service. My plan for my wedding weekend was to check in to the hotel on Friday, get ready for my rehearsal dinner that evening, and stay until the morning after my wedding. On Friday, we get to the hotel 30 minutes after the earliest check in time. We are told that our room was not ready. We are not offered any sort of compensation for this. I’m freaking out because all of my bridesmaids were supposed to get ready for the rehearsal with me in my room (most expensive room at the hotel, if it matters). I don’t get a text that my room is ready until over an hour later and at this point I only have 20 minutes for myself and my bridesmaids to get ready for my rehearsal. At our rehearsal, my wedding planner tells me that I need to pick up our wristbands for our after party that was planned to take place at night Hawk. I am also made aware about an issue that they are having about not having a CC authorization form on file. This is interesting considering that my fiancé and I sent over our CC authorization for the after party almost three months prior (we have receipts to prove this). Now, I’m stressed. I go to the front desk after our rehearsal dinner to ask if I can fill out another CC auth form so we wouldn’t have any problems the following night and the front desk lady, who appeared high or something, was completely unhelpful and told me “not to worry about it.” My friends went to pick up the wristbands for the after party and are told by the Night Hawk manager that he had no clue there was an event for the following night, which is interesting considering I had several emails detailing which spaces we were going to rent out, how much, bringing in decor, etc etc. He eventually gives them the wristbands.
The night of my wedding, we hand out the wristbands to guests. We paid for 50 wristbands which equaled a $900 minimum (this was a deal for renting out two sections of Night Hawk). We told the person we had been in communication with that we planned on paying the $900 minimum and then tabbing out once/if that was reached and having our guests pay for their own drinks after that. We get to Night Hawk and several people who grabbed wristbands don’t show up, while others who didn’t get wristbands do show up. The bouncer won’t even let the people who don’t have wristbands into the bar. I understand not letting them into the section, but not even into the bar? I don’t understand that. I had been to an after party two weeks prior there and there were no wristbands. I had to go upstairs and apologize to my guests who couldn’t get in without the wristbands. It was so embarrassing. I will say I talked to the bar manager and he did eventually find me a few extra wristbands, but at this point most of my guests who couldn’t get in had just gone home or ordered Ubers. I go back downstairs and I witness some of my guests at the bar paying for their own drinks. I immediately stop them and tell them to put their drinks on our tab because we already have a minimum. These guests told me that most people from our wedding had been paying for their own drinks. I don’t understand this at all considering everyone HAD to have a wristband and that seemingly indicated which section to put the tab on. I go do damage control and tell all our guests to make sure they were putting their drinks on our tab. At the end of the night, I approach our server and ask how close we are to meeting the minimum. He states “you aren’t even close to meeting it”. At this point, it’s the end of the night and I assume it’s because most people were paying for their own drinks at the beginning. Today, a month after our wedding, I get an email saying they never got our CC auth form (again, yes they did lol, months before our wedding) and that we owed them over $2000. Double our minimum. I’m absolutely furious :) please don’t book here if you have any special event.

The hotel was great! The room was amazing. The decor is top notch and the room was very clean and quiet. The only thing that we weren’t impressed of was the service. Lots of employees on their phones and not acknowledging guests. Otherwise, it was great and we would stay again in the future.

As a Wedding Officiant I get to see so many beautiful venues, and Hotel Kansas City is among the most stunningly classy in every way! It has a little bit of a 1920’s vibe with all the decor and just the history of the building that they’ve preserved so well. It’s just exquisite. And the rooftop view of Kansas City is breathtaking! It’s a must see!

This was my first time staying in a boutique hotel, and I’m glad I did. I am a Hyatt fan, and they did a great job with this property.
The 1920s decor and theming were beautiful, and the room had all the modern updates you would expect.
I forgot to pack a toothbrush and called to see if the front desk had one for sale. Not only did they have one, but they delivered it to my room for absolutely no cost. I was shocked at the service. I cannot wait to go back to this awesome property.
