This is only in regards to their emergency room. We took our son in today due to a possible concussion during gym class. We got here and checked in at 12 pm. They called us back to triage, I thought everything was going smoothly. Now almost five hours later we still have not been called back to see a doctor and there are people who have been here much longer than us. I know going to the ER can take a long time, however the wait time is ridiculous and whenever you ask anyone about eta, they say it will be shortly or you are on our list. Anytime anyone has gone up, the nurses at the front desk act like it's no big deal that there are people who have been here for 5-6 hours just waiting in waiting room, not back in a room - not even being communicated with... Then they go back to to laughing and sitting around not seeming to give a crap. The amount of people that have just walked out because they aren't being helped is astonishing. I'm not sure if this was just an off day but I don't know that we will use their emergency room ever again.

I finally got answers for my sweet baby girl. Other hospitals did not listen to me. Children’s Mercy did so much more than anyone else has, and I have finally gotten some answers in peace, and the proper medicine for my baby girl to be okay!
as a breast-feeding mom, they took amazing care of me and made sure I was comfortable as well, and well fed with food, vouchers, and snacks and a water bottle

The nursing staff on five Sutherland is amazing, however I’m giving this review due to the lack of care from the doctors there. My son has a very rare and hard to manage heart defect. Trust me I know this as I manage him on a daily basis. Aside from this review I also contacted the patient care advocate. My son recently turned 8 and has been hospitalized roughly 27 times at this hospital, that number does not include the massive amount of ED visits we have had to endure. If I had a choice though we would never be coming back. The doctors allowed my son to be hypertensive for 15 hours. They cycled through his extensive list of PRN medication 3 times this is not the first time this has happened either at another stay they allowed him to be hypertensive for roughly 28 hours before transferring him to the PICU. Keep in mind my son already has damage to his heart from hypertension. We did finally get transferred to the PICU shockingly enough after I strongly advocated for my son with the help of the nurses. Of course this was around the time my son was becoming more stable. We are currently in the PICU and my frustration is continuing as the monitors (for whatever reason) do not appropriately read my sons blood pressure they must be taken manually because he is always 20-30 higher then what they get with the readings of the machine. Keep in mind I’ve been in health care for 15 years and because of my sons health I am very well practiced in taking manual blood pressures. However I’m afraid because of technology some nurses are not. I’ve checked my sons blood pressure a few times sense being here myself and the readings I’m getting are differing from the readings the nurse is getting. So his hypertension seems to still be going untreated. This whole situation has been heartbreaking. And honestly? I’m terrified to sleep because I know he isn’t getting the appropriate care his little body needs. I won’t get into all the diagnoses my child has because if I were to try and explain them this long review would be 100 times longer. I hope the hospital reads these, and if they do I have a message for you. DO BETTER. Children’s lives are at risk. I understand my son is a complicated case and we are actively seeking medical care in another state because the hospitals around here are not equipped to “fix” him however you should be at-least equipped to listen to a mother’s desperate pleas for help and do what you are able to instead of ignoring concerns as we do know our children best.

The worst ER I have ever been to. No care so far. Requests for pain meds have been ignored. Orders for the diagnostics we came here for weren't put in until 2 hours after arrival. 4.5 hours ago we were told that Dr's here at Children's requested my daughter transferred here via their ambulance bc she might be hemorrhaging internally and this was life threatening. At the 4 hour point she had the pelvic ultrasound we came here for. However, they didn't ultrasound the organ that was in question of having ruptured or having a torsion. They sent her back in tears from the pressure and left her in the room with no explanation and no pain meds. Having just come from an ER that offered verbal interactions, pain meds, and explanations for what was going on this is a stark decline in medical care. If she really was in a near death situation and hemorrhaging, or her appendix had burst we would be in a much more acute situation now. We still have no clear information, as in nurses and medical staff havent explained what we are waiting on or when or what might happen. Ive been in many ERs, with many injuries, for myself and with clients. I would skip this hospital and go somewhere else for care if possible.

The nurses at the hospital were absolutely amazing. They were incredibly helpful and compassionate, always providing assistance whenever we needed it and guiding us in the right direction. Their support made our stay comfortable, and we could rest easy knowing that our daughter was in excellent hands.

Slowest ER ever. My 1 month old daughter was screaming her lungs out and it took us calling the nurses for them to come in. We waited almost 3 hours for anyone past a vitals nurse to see us. The nurses are mostly kind though

I was reluctant to take my son to CMH for specialty care but our experience has been a great one compared to other providers in the Metro area. First the neurologist department took time to review my son's case and familarize themselves with him before we came that day. They were very thorough, caring and just as eager to get started on his new care plan as we are. He sent us to PT/OT and rehab. Our first PT appt was yesterday they got us in really fast surprisingly and again the tech took the time to read the records before we showed up. (This is half the battle most times for us) But what really stood out is how special they treat each one of their patients. Individually and with so much compassion. They hug our kids and make them feel loved and welcome, heard and understood! I watched a little girl get a birthday celebration right at the door by her tech before ever meeting ours. Then I watched my baby cry and get frustrated and our tech consoled him making it okay for all of us. I admit... I was wrong in my thinking and fears of not being treated with compassion at CMH. They really have set the bar high already and we're just getting started! I am so excited about what the future holds with my son's new care team!

We got into the emergency room around 5pm and waited 5 hours to be seen. I had an aggressive fever and could barley walk straight because the soreness of my body. My mom asked when I was going to be seen and they said they couldn’t tell us and had no idea when we were going to be seen. There was also a family who waited 5 hours with us and had a kid with a massive bump from a head injury. They have no sense of urgency or care. We finally got into our room and they said it was another hour wait for the doctor to see us. The nurses were extremely rude and we just up and left without any medical care. I do not recommend taking your kids to this hospital

I’ve had my son at Children’s Mercy ER twice in a week. Both times the ER was crowded so I understand wait times are longer and priority patients should be seen first. I’m not new to children’s hospitals. My son had been vomiting for 11 days and was severely dehydrated. The first night we waited 3.5 hrs and were admitted overnight. The ER was nasty. Vomit on the floor left for hours. Nobody came in to clean while we waited. The room we were admitted to wasn’t very clean either. The ER staff wasn’t an issue for me personally but the nurses at the station got snappy with other ppl. They all just seem frazzled and short tempered so I stayed out of their way. But that’s an issue in and of itself in my opinion because in an emergency situation these ppl literally have one job and that’s to be accommodating to the sick. I will say once we were admitted to the hospital besides the room being grubby, the care was good. The nurses on the children’s floor were very sweet to my son and caring to me in my nervous state which I appreciate. But that’s also the bare minimum at a specialty children’s hospital so..
Two days later we ended up bringing my son back to the ER because his symptoms flared up and we were worried about him becoming dehydrated again. We drove from Warrensburg both times. My husband waited over 5hrs to be seen this time in a full waiting room. This time the nurses attitudes were abhorrent. One girl at the desk when asked by a mother with a small child how long the wait times were expected to be, snapped at her and told her if she was concerned with the wait she should have had her child seen sooner. That is UNACCEPTABLE. This nurse should be fired. She doesn’t know how many dr’s we parents have had our children to before we step through the ER doors and the ER is often the last result. I personally had my son seen 3 times by Dr’s before bringing him to Children’s Mercy and if she had said that to me I swear I would have caused a scene. No one with a sick child in the care of a supposed professional environment should be subjected to petty snarky and degrading conduct such as this. And unfortunately this wasn’t a one off situation. My husband watched many ppl be treated with indifference or snarky behavior by the nursing staff in the ER and a lot of ppl just walked out. Hopefully to receive better care at the ER down the street. I don’t blame them. I honestly don’t think I’ll be back to this ER nor will I be recommending it to ppl after this experience. It’s easy to go elsewhere and be treated decently as opposed to withstanding the clearly overwhelmed environment with degrading staff. This was the evening of May 20-21st by the way. I hope every ER nurse on staff that evening reads this and is reprimanded. It’s not hard to not make a stressful situation worse for these parents. It’s actually your one job.

I am currently dealing with children’s Mercy while having an infant in their Nicu. Tonight I called and was transferred to the Nicu multiple times and was hung up on every single time without speaking to a nurse on the unit. The operator on duty was kind and did not mind me calling back, at attempts to finally get through. On May 21, between 5:15pm-6:30pm I however, was not able to make contact with a nurse due to someone picking up the phone and hanging it up every time I was transferred to the unit. This is very unsettling as a parent/ guardian.
