I would like very much to share the amazing experience(s) I have had as a client of Barbara while taking her classes since October, 2021.This is my second experience with following a class in Yoga since last taking a class at the YMCA in NKC about three years ago. I think what makes this time around exceptional is the ability to do classes remotely (saving time), but more so the extraordinary opportunity to have discovered classes offered by such an enthusiastic and motivated Yogi as Barbara Anderson. Barbara’s experience, knowledge, skill, energy, and unmatched personality makes this second experience an unparalleled discovery.Since having stopped following classes with my first experience with Yoga classes, I have had challenges with lower back pain at times that I have encountered while working on various home projects as well as while sleeping at night, in addition to planar fasciitis resulting from walking extensively several times a week with old shoes.A visit to a physical therapist was helpful with recommendations for doing stretching exercises before walking. But he also advised me of the need to perform varied types of physical movements in a balanced manner to avoid over use of muscles, ligaments and tendons using only one type of movement. This was the reason I had decided to return to Yoga once again.Barbara's classes (Yoga and Awareness Through Movement) are the reason I find myself more readily able to move into late winter and early spring projects without pre-conditioning, as well as being able to sleep at night without needing to wear a back brace. I have been able to do this while following five to six classes a week with Barbara. It is proof beyond doubt that regular and balanced movement can have a significant impact on your quality of life no matter the age of an individual. As Barbara often says, “Reach, reach, reach!”, and “Reach for the ceiling!”Thanks for the experience.

Yes. It's like a body shop for my body. I like improving my range of motion. Age is an interesting phenomenon. I like keeping my body moving for as long as possible. Barbara has you doing all kinds of strange movements and you watch how the whole body reacts. I have been doing her Awareness Through Movement classes for years and i keep coming. Very relaxing. I recommend a few sessions to see how you feel.

Body and Soul has a wonderful, inviting atmosphere. There is no pressure or competition and everyone is encouraged to work at his or her own pace and comfort level. Although Barbara has a very disarming teaching style that puts everyone at ease, she has the skill and experience to guide all levels of students. I highly recommend Body and Soul to anyone interested in yoga!

Started Yoga with Barbara over a year ago when I retired. It has been the greatest of experiences for me. Her knowledge of Yoga and the structure of the human body is impressive. I think both sets of knowledge are necessary for excellence in Yoga instruction. She offers you far more than just Yoga poses; she knows how your body will be affected by the poses. Her classes are very friendly and non-competitive and your well being is most important. She is especially a great if you are no longer twenty-something and need some latitude in how much you can do. There is no pressure to push yourself beyond what is safe and comfortable.

We signed up with Body and Soul based on a 2014 New Year's resolution. Four years later, we're still at it. Barbara adjusts her session to take into account the skill levels and specific needs of everyone in the room. She starts out slow, her instructions are easy to follow, but at the end you'll know you've stretched some body parts you may not have known you had. There are five separate classes for Yoga I (mornings and evenings throughout the week) so easy to find one that fits your schedule. She also offers Yoga II and III along with other specialized classes, but Yoga I has done wonders for me and my joints. Not a real fancy place, no shiny wood floors, but Linus would call it the most sincere yoga patch while awaiting the appearance of the Great Pumpkin.

Barbara Anderson has decades of experience both broad and deep in a wide variety of yogas and other body activities such as Tai chi and Pilates. She has an in-depth knowledge of the body and its processes that many yoga teachers don't possess, including Feldenkrais understandings. All of this makes her teaching more useful and safe. In her classes she creates a friendly community and an atmosphere of enjoyment. She is not yoga teacher who takes herself too seriously, yet she knows how to incorporate changes that enhance bodily movement. I've tried other yogas, but her classes provide the relaxation, stretching, and healthy movement awareness that show results in my everyday life.

Barbara Anderson, has decades of experience in working with the body. I have done her restorative yoga and most importantly the Feldenkrais classes which has helped me work with my body gently and yet powerfully. Totally recommend.
