This is one of the few places I shop regularly where I genuinely feel like my money is supporting a meaningful local business. I love the "sizzle and heat" bird seed I get here that the squirrels leave alone. Awesome place, worth a visit.

(This review is for the online store - Missouri is a bit of a hike!)
My order shipped quickly and packaged with care. My bag of Nutrasaff is very fresh with only a tiny amount of debris. Would definitely buy again.

This is the best seed & feed store for your backyard buddies in the entire metropolitan area. Stop in, buy local, feed the birds and squirrels, live happy!

It's Bluebird time! I'm ready, with the help of #marksbackyardbirds and my husband, Tom Berry. I shopped Mark's online store yesterday...a seamless experience. Today my new bluebird house is installed, ready and waiting. Mark's store is an amazing, successful, family owned small business...the selections are top notch, the crew are friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful. I was shocked at the other review...I've shopped at Mark's for years and have never had such an experience nor seen anyone be treated so rudely. If that person could see her way to give them another chance, I'm sure she would be pleased!

I've learned a lot from Mr. McKellar on his YouTube Channel. After watching some of his videos, I checked out his online store, and ordered a single feeder. As a result of seeing how fast his order was shipped and the friendly thank you note, it didn't take me long to make my next order. I purchased what is now my best store-bought feeder and also some of Mr. McKellar's special blend of seeds. If ever in Kansas City, I will certainly stop at Backyard Bird Center. Thanks for all your wealth of birding knowledge, Mark! That has not cost me a single dime; the least I can do is give you some business.

Found Mark’s store via his YouTube channel. Mark offers great educational videos and livestreams regarding birds and related topics. His store also sells products that I can’t find locally, Nutrastaff seed and a particular Hot Pepper suet log brand. I’ve also bought an easy clean Finch feeder that works like a champ!A great selection of competitively priced products to enhance the birding experience and take care of our feathered friends. You can buy seed at the “box stores” but have found that they are filled with filler seed. Mark and his staff have custom blends so you do get more for your money. So glad the store ships to other states…Also, a Big “Thank you” to his awesome staff, especially Carrie.

We moved to the area about 6 months ago and I was so excited to find this store. We previously lived on the east coast near a Wild Birds Unlimited and I learned so much, volunteered at a local bird sanctuary (because of them), and spent about $100/mo on bird items (I only add this because I love learning and am willing to support our wild bird population). I went into this store and the man at the counter did not look at me sideways, like I never entered the store. I am not a chatty person, but it was not busy, and I did think it was interesting not to be acknowledged or asked if I needed help finding anything. I browsed around (still optimistic at this point), chose some bird seed (quality does mean more birds and better for them too), a few other things, and made my way to the counter. There was one man in front of me whom the man at the counter was happy to talk to. Huh. They struck up a conversation about the NE based on the customer’s ball cap. I know this because I was standing right behind him with a 40# bag of birdseed and some miscellaneous items. From the conversation, I guess this was the owner behind the counter? I set the bag down on the floor at some point. Smiling. I am genuinely happy people are connecting. But, getting mildly annoyed. I swear to you, he finished the sale, picked up the other customer’s birdseed (never said a word), left the register, still conversation about the weather in the NE, and walked OUT OF THE STORE. I was trying to figure out what to do, and wanted the birdseed badly enough to stay. A young girl who was stocking somewhere in the back of the store came and checked me out. I picked up my things. Walked out to my car. The man from behind the register was still deep in conversation a few cars away. Odd. I won’t go back. I started driving double the distance to Lawrence where there is a bird store where they act like they want my business. Or at least they have not made me stand there holding a bag of birdseed and walked out of the store.

Visited your store today with a three-year-old bird lover. We just needed some bird food and hoped only to get in and out without breaking anything, but we had a totally unexpected kid-friendly experience. He LOVED it.Kid’s favorite part was the pictures and sounds of local birds on a screen toward the back of the store. My favorite part was the woman working there who dropped what she was doing to engage with him, offering an activity book and a seat on the giant seed bags.Huge selection of seeds and suet in both retail and bulk quantities. Lots of cool feeders. Books, puzzles, even binoculars. Cool store. We’ll be back when we run out.
