This was the worst car rental experience I have ever had. They charge for things you waive such as insurance. I received a bill for $125 3 weeks after I returned vehicle saying the exterior was excessively dirty. This place is criminal.

If you rent from this location, I highly suggest you document/ take pictures of everything. 9 times out of 10 when I return the car I'm CONSTANTLY being charged a late fee, regardless of what time I return my car. Which truly is a hassle! Depending on the customer service person I get connected too they think I'm lying. I have to remind them to pull the cameras so they can see when the car was returned. Example my return time will be 6pm and I won't get an email until 9 or 10am, THE NEXT DAY! Saying I just returned the car. Mind you when I return the car it'll be not one car in site! In the return line. I've also experienced the car having maintenance issues that I've reported and was told they were handled. Example the tire pressure was low in a SUV I rented to drive out of work. I get to the destination, I come back outside and the tire is flat. Long story short, I made this aware to everyone I spoke with in roadside assistance and I was STILL charged for the flat tire fee. I was literally told by the employees the car would be fine. I've complained to corporate numerous times and nothing is ever done. Renting from the airport is convenience but I'll be going to the North Kansas City location from now on. I've never had any problems from there.

My boss and I attended a work meeting near the airport and we rented a car. Mind you: we are both non-smokers. We don't smoke, not even socially. Like zero smoking. Imagine our surprise when we got a "cleaning" surcharge after drop off stating the car was smoked in. The representative states there was picture evidence however they could not provide it and eventually negotiated their outrageous charge down to only "$250". We are corporate travelers and this rental was booked through our internal travel agency. This bogus charge has caused my boss a lot of internal churn and required a lot of explanation. We will be reporting this incident to our agency, Avis should not surface as a "preferred" rental car provider when booking.

AVIS is unethical. I received this message that and emailed these photos regarding my vehicle rental. This vehicle was never taken off-road. It was driven around Kansas City on county and city roads in Johnson County. The person who inspected the vehicle when I turned it in, said nothing about the vehicle being unclean. The just received a message saying they charged me $125!This is headed to corporate. Pretty sure that running the vehicle through a car wash is factored into the rental cost. Avis won't see one penny from me and I am telling the world about what happened with with this ordeal

My first experience with Avis was at this Kansas city airport location and it was an unpleasant experience. I arrived to the location late due to a flight delay and was immediately told they were taking their last customer of the day. There was two associates (an old black woman and a younger white gentleman) and neither were willing to help even though I had an existing reservation. The gentleman told me we should go over to nationals rental to see if they could assist us. We proceeded to go over to national and there was no one even there to assist. We went back to the shuttle and were told that this a common issue at this Avis location and were told to go back to attempt to get assistance. I proceeded back to the Avis rental counter and showed my reservation information and was told they "dont have alot of cars and no cars really" by the younger gentleman. I had to ask again for clarity and was told they have no more cars and that if they attempted to enter me into the system (after midnight at this point due to delayed flight) that it would mess up their system and they couldnt update it. That is poor and unacceptable service. I had a reservation that was placed prior to my arrival. My reservation should have been honored and a car should have been avaialble knowing I had a reservation scheduled. This was a complete inconvenience for my trip and was a bad first experience with Avis. I rent cars often but wanted to try out Avis fo the first time. The customer service was very poor and the overall experience was not at all satisfactory. Very disappointed for my first time trying and potentially my last.

I rented a car for a short period of time with Avis back in August for a family member's funeral. When I returned the vehicle, Avis overcharged me by 120$. When I returned my vehicle with a full tank and clean. Avis billed me for a premium car upgrade when I did not upgrade. They charged me for an extra day, which I did not keep the car for an extra day. I returned it the day I was supposed to. Then they further charged me for not bringing the car back with a full tank when I did return the car with the fuel gauge showing full. After fighting with Avis customer service for a week to get the charges removed, they only took off the premium upgrade and fuel surcharge. I insisted that I keep the car for an extra day. I submitted a claim with my credit card company, and instead of showing the proof that I kept the vehicle for an extra day, they sent the remaining amount they claim I owe them to collections. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

Even waiting for an hour and a half, even though I had a reservation. I also set up their quick pass app but it didn't work. Terrible customer service and the big sign needs to come down.

I am Avis Presidents Club and reserved a vehicle nearly 6 months ago in order to pick up from the Kansas City Airport AVIS location on 9-23-23. Upon arrival to the airport on Saturday 9-23-23 at approximately 4PM the Avis Mobile App said my car wasn't ready and to go to the preferred counter. The Preferred Counter was closed and the employee told me to go back in the building to the main counter. The line was over an hour long to get to the counter to get a vehicle. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAD TO WAIT IN LINE TO GET A CAR that I reserved nearly 6 months ago and am currently an Avis PRESIDENTS CLUB member. The entire purpose is NOT TO WAIT IN LINE so you can go directly to your vehicle. Your management team and entire organization and lack of competence at the Kansas City Airport Avis location is UNACCEPTABLE on any objective basis. This needs IMMEDIATE attention.

Good from the start, no complaints from me. Everything was as stated, I even got a bigger vehicle than I anticipated.

We had a good experience with this Avis. My only negative comment is how long the line to the desk took when we arrived in the middle of the night and had already done our pre-check in, but besides that the experience was smooth. Huge shoutout to Melissa S. for being amazing and taking such great care of us. She was professional, kind, funny, and efficient. The Chrysler Pacifica van that we had was very nice and in great condition.

Rental cars, nation wide, are subject to the level of care that the renters have in stiff that will be used by others (i.e. consideration of others). Well, you don't need special glasses to note that in this day and age, every single person is totally out for themselves, and themselves only. So, you'll have to just (sadly) expect and assume your rental car is going to have been beat up. And yea, sadly, because remember about 2-3 decades ago when rental cars were actually "nice"? Like it was fun to rent cars. The newest models, well taken care of ... sort of like a preview for a car you might want to buy. Anyways... people today are the worst and they treat things they own terribly - so imagine how they treat something they don't own? I had no choice but to use Avis. I typically use BUDGET, and have had decent results with them here in KCMO, but I travel (and rent cars) on behalf of the Government and the Government required lowest logical costs when selecting hotels, flights, cars etc. This trip, after having completed 6 other trips here quarterly... AVIS out of nowhere was the lowest logical cost. So I had no choice but to use them. I arrive at airport, grab bags then head over to Avis. Now then, I have to select "intermediate", again, lowest fare, but I already know for a fact intermediate is small - like they also have compact and sub compact categories, right? But a Toyota Corolla (yea the TINY Corolla), is considered intermediate... so wtf is a compact???? Anyways... I know this is too small because as usual, 3 of us (all adult men with 1-2 bags each) had to share the one car. So I explain to counter, hey guys I can't reserve any higher than intermediate, but can I get something bigger due to situation? The Avis counter was not even acknowledging my request. They kept just repeating "you reserved an intermediate sir". Ok cool. Toyota Corolla it is. I go to get the car, way out in the lot (not in the covered section where the "fancy" sedans and SUVs that definitely were available were. And as soon as I get in the car, it hits me - SMOKE. Dang it. Nothing worse than that stale smoke smell. And then, as I decided "whatever - I'll just have the lady note it on my way out"... the lady on the way out didn't even ask me for the initial inspection and just waived me through from her little movie watching shack. I had also noticed, and lends to the smoke smell, to giant perfectly round holes in the front seat. Burn holes at that. So I exited, made a left, and turned right back into the return. At the return, I showed the guy the burns, had him verify the smell, and we noted the car was missing fluids (like no wiper fluid at all). And he was like my gosh so sorry - go get another car. Went back inside, now having had to unload my luggage again, and went back to desk, waited in line again, and started over. Same guy even - so I'm like sure - he will remember me from 10 minutes ago, he will feel bad on behalf of Avis for giving me a car that was unfit for service, and now he will give me a car or suv I need to accommodate my colleagues and I. I mean, I didn't make up the smell, the fact it didn't even have fluids, or the burn marks (and I sure was not going to be put into a situation where I was charged for that)... but when I got to counter and explained it, and had the Return clerk verify it - the same guy didn't even apologize, but instead kept insisting "you reserved an intermediate sir". I was like wow - not even a "sorry I have you a car that was damaged" - NOTHING. So, back to the intermediate I go. This time, HONDA HR-V. Even smaller somehow than the Corolla. And wow - I feel as if whomever had it last, stuck their index fingers in a small jar or honey, and then stuck it in a small jar of Vaseline, and then proceeded to use said index finger to touch of single button in the entire vehicle. And then just to make sure we knew of their or presence, they added water spots and sandy / linty / dusty shavings

AVIS in Kansas City (both the airport AVIS and the downtown one) tried to scam me for pre-existing damage by sending a bill to me a month after my rental. Where to start? I reserved the car online and then rented the vehicle from "Chris" at the Kansas City downtown Avis. Chris said the car had a crack in the windshield but "you won't get charged for it," and laughed it off. After waiting over 30 minutes, I finally got keys to the car, but Chris didn't offer to do a walkthrough to review damage with me and moved on to other customers instead. I was in a rush, so I took pictures of all existing damage while still in the parking lot, as well as noting the mileage and dirty interior of the car (also, it smelled like someone tried to cover up smoke with air freshener). This was the WORST car condition for a rental I've ever seen--it was horrible. Had I known Avis and Budget in KC were linked, I wouldn't have rented from AVIS, because Budget in Kansas City ALSO pulled the same scam years ago. But in a rush to get to an appointment, I left with the photos in my phone and emailed them to myself. Later, seeing the contract, I noticed that the mileage was WAY off in the contract from actual mileage, and I called Chris to correct it. He fixed it--sort of, but not all the way and he didn't care about the details. The contract also said the car was given to me with a full tank, but it was only given to me with ¾ tank. Chris changed it for me, but to 7/8, which meant that I STILL had to fill it up because no one can get 7/8 perfectly, which is closer to full than the actual 3/4 that I had. I grudgingly filled up the tank. Upon return of the car rental at the MCI airport, the AVIS person came up and immediately noted that there was a crack in the windshield. I said "that was already there," and proceeded to show him photos taken the day I rented the car. He said "did you take these before you left the parking lot?" and I confirmed that yes, I had. I also told him that this was the worst car condition we'd ever seen in a rental car. He ignored me, then circled the crack with a big car marker and we left to get on our flight, hoping that was the end of it. A month later, AVIS sent me a letter and warned me that they're going to charge my card about $500 for a windshield crack that I didn't create. I immediately called them to report the scam, and amazingly, the representative suddenly found a document that says that the crack was present earlier than my rental. I asked him why the people sending me the bill didn't see this, and he said he didn't know. So they somehow didn't have this noted anywhere for the bill collectors at AVIS? Right. This was a clear scam, and I suspect that they charge every renter of the same car for the damage, and those who have documentation and then fight it don't get charged, while they keep trying to charge everyone for damage that they don't want to fix on their own dime. As I've said, Budget pulled the same scam with me in Kansas City years before, and I had documentation and wrote them a letter that put them to shame, so they removed the charges then as well. BEWARE! This is a shady company like Budget. This has ONLY happened to me in Kansas City, interestingly, so watch out when you rent any vehicle from any company there. Do not ever rent from this company!

I'll keep it short because they're not worth the time. I arrived to an empty car rental terminal with 3 agents at the desk. With a reservation booked they got the amount to be billed wrong 3 times, lied about ability to print paper receipts. 11 emails, 1 filthy beat up car and 50 minutes later, I cancelled the reservation. I ended up renting next door, where I was in and out 10 minutes with a brand new vehicle.

Bottom line: you've been warned. This will be a painful and excruciating experience. The other reviews shine light on the customer service experience and the type of vehicles you'll be told to drive. If you have a choice... choose another. This ain't the one.
