I lived just 5 blocks from the Museum. I grew up going there in the Summertime; at least once a week.We even went there on School Field trips in the 1970s.I think every Joplin child should see this important part of History to Joplin, Missouri, & the United States. It might also spark an interest in Geology, and other Sciences.

I visited the museum in my grandfather ( Foster Rosenberry) memory.I had no idea the museum was that big and was full of History and Rocks/minerals. I got to visit with Marv who worked for my grandpa back in the mid 60's. Foster owned a collection that was sold after his passing to Mr Hempen in 1983. Mr. Hempen donated the collection years later to the museum. It was a very enjoyable time and I recommend everyone to visit the museum.I might add that when we went the museum was having an event and had vendors there for the show.

Stopped here while on a family vacation. Cute little museum with a great collection of local mineral and crystal specimens mined in MO. They also have a collection of early Americana, again with a heavy focus on Joplin and the MO area. I think we spent about an hour here. With it's location in the park, it's a great activity to combine with something else for a fun day out. Since it's a smaller regional museum they obviously don't have the same size collection as the larger national Natural History Museums. We were already in Joplin for the day to do something else in the morning, and the museum was the perfect afternoon activity before driving back. They have bathrooms. The employees were friendly and happy to answer questions. Most of the museum collection is on the first floor. There is a second floor but it's much smaller than the downstairs, and there is no elevator. Most of the mining stuff is upstairs, and downstairs is the minerals and crystals and historical Americana collection. There were some things scattered around geared toward kids so that combined with the fact that it's small makes me think it's pretty family friendly.

It is very interesting if you like rocks and history. Honestly, we accidentally went during the model train show. The kids loved that, and they have a rock club on the first Tuesday every month. I might check it out, lol

You can learn so much here about Joplin's history and scientific research on the elements found in this area. So cool, great displays and educational opportunities.

Unexpectedly impressive museum on mining and minerals. Great local specimen collection and tons of history on mining and minerals in the area including a scaled mining operation upstairs. The museum also includes a unique collection of local history (with plenty of kitsch too).Staff was helpful and friendly - I'd highly recommend this museum.

This is such a fun museum displaying the history of Joplin and paying respect to its mining heritage. This is absolutely a nice place to spend a few hours.

The cost is $5.00 for adults; military and seniors $4.00; kids 12 and under are free.No cats. Museum has had lots of new things in it and they are updating a lot of displays. Get a free cookie cutter, kids can choose a free book, and you can get a free crystal making kit. Magnifying glasses available for viewing the minerals. Lots of new signs and QR codes that tell about the displays. Well worth a visit!

I took my 7 year old grandson. He loved it all. Was amazed about everything. From the old time register, fire truck, old type writer, circus items and the different rocks. I believe his favorite was the old water fountain. He took me back at least 3 times. It is beautiful. I bought him an amethyst for$2. He picked out himself. Son girlfriend and her 1yesr old niece also went. Her niece loved all the rocks. Upon leaving employee's gave kids free coupons for DQ ice cream, grow your own crystals and they got to pick out a rock. In Joplin this is a must stop and spend time looking and learning. Kids free adults $4
