I unfortunately had to put my sweet boy down. I have never had to experience this before and I was very emotional and upset. I was so grateful for how kind all of the staff was during that time. They allowed me to hold him and spend time with him until I was ready and they never rushed anything, allowing me to spend as much time as I wanted with him after, explaining everything along the way. They were so kind when I needed it the most. I will forever be grateful to all of the wonderful people that work there and for all that they do! I will never go to another vet for my fur babies

Love, love, love Academy Animal Hospital, every team member I have interacted with has been very friendly and compassionate towards me and my animals. They are very workable with scheduling, taking urgency of sickness into consideration and they get you in as soon as possible when other places I’ve been really don’t :(. I’ve takin many many cats to Academy and have seen both Dr.Cahill and Dr.Helm, they both are very knowledgeable and answer any questions or concerns I have. I’ve had to have 2 of my cats put down for two very different reasons, one was a senior and just that time and the other was younger but got pneumonia, his lung was collapsed and there wasn’t anything else that could of been done. Both times we very hard emotionally, the whole staff was great through it all not only with us and allowing plenty of time to grieve but the compassion they had in the last minutes of our kitties life was beyond my expectations. They made one of the hardest days a bit less stressful and tolerable. I will continue to use Academy for all my animals because they really care and are very affordable.

Let me start by saying my 3 pets were long time patients of Dr. Cahill and this review isn't intended to reflect on her abilities. My dog Lucy's time had come and when I called to schedule her euthanasia it had to be with Dr. Helm because Dr. Cahill was on vacation. In the past I had an appointment with Dr. Helm for my cat and wasn't impressed. She came into the room, no introduction. She spent less than 5 minutes looking at my cat's gums stating they were inflamed. Then she sent in someone else to give me the outrageous cost and explanation of the procedure. That's it. She didn't explain the cause of inflamation or ask if I had any questions. Let's fast forward to Lucy's final appointment. She gave her the 1st shot while I held Lucy. When she came back I was instructed to put Lucy on the table. In most situations a vet will shave the fur to find an adequate vein, but she didn't do that. I stood by her upper body and Helm gave the 2nd shot in the leg. She stated the vein collapsed, then proceeded to grab Lucy's arms and legs and flipped her over like you would a piece of meat on the grill to get to her other leg. I was shocked and had no time to react because it happened so quickly. I only pray my sweet girl was gone and didn't feel being flipped over like that. My husband who was present expressed his disappointment to Dr. Cahill the following week. She reached out to me, but honestly what could she say that'd make me feel better. I received a follow-up card which I appreciate (Lori thank you for what you wrote, you and Paula were both very nice through the years). I'm sorry to say I won't be back for any future visits. I sincerely hope no one else has to experience that ever.

Love Love Love this Vet. We called to take our girl in because her normal vet could not get her in and she could no longer walk. They got her in same day.Everyone we met was extremely polite and nice. The vet was honest with us that with everything going on she did not think there was much we could do for her and we ultimately let her go.The waiting room was packed and the receptionist asked everyone waiting to go outside so that it would be quite and peaceful for her passing. We can not recommend this place enough.

I just won't take my pets anywhere else especially dealing with the coldest rudest vet at Pawz Veterinary in Joplin. Academy, good news or bad does what it takes to help you with your pet care.

They don't evaluate for FeLV which is the recommended protocol when adopting from the shelter per the AAFP 2020.

Been coming here for years; started when Dr. Storey was the doc and such a fantastic communicator about my pets' problems/surgery outcomes, etc. Then he turned it over to Dr. Cahill, another cat whisperer, and I have been just as happy with her. Love the staff who always take good care of me and my pets. Especially Paula and (not Paula) Lori!

They were able to clear up an ear infection for our poodle immediately, and we had already spent well over $500 at another vet that never even tested for type of infection in ear. We are so thankful we were finally able to get our babies into Academy!
