I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about this vet hospital. I thought I was going to have to drive to the St. Louis area to find a bird vet, but I was told about this vet which is so much closer.
A pigeon I found was very sick. I was hesitant to even name her because I was unsure if she would live. She was extremely weak and extremely lightweight and malnourished.
However, I made an appointment with Dr. Byrd and things changed completely for my sweet pigeon. Dr. Byrd could tell immediately that she had a fungal infection. Her overall knowledge and expertise is incredible.
Even with being incredibly busy, she was so kind, patient and took so much time to figure out what was wrong with my bird and answer all my questions. Her bubbly and sweet personality is a bonus.
I have even called to ask questions and she will always take the time to call me back, even if it’s after hours. The time and effort she puts in does not go unnoticed.
I am so incredibly thankful I found this office and they were even able to get me in soon. It’s a plus with them being open until 8pm. Thank you to Jessica who is always nice and polite when I call and will gladly pass my message on to Dr. Byrd.
Thank you so much to this entire office and especially, Dr. Byrd!

We just can’t thank this team at Jefferson City Animal Hospital enough! On our very first visit to their clinic when our 16 year old little Cockapoo Riley was at the end of life they made an extremely emotional time easier, going way above and beyond the norm of care for us and our sweet boy Riley!!!♥️♥️♥️

Great vets, loads of equipment to help your pet, and they serve furry, feathery, and scaly creatures. They have extended hours compared to the other vets nearby. They will do everything to attempt emergency services/appointments for clients only, and it is based on the severity of the issue (not the perceived severity by the owner).

When I first moved to Jefferson City back in 2020 I used to love this vet, and how they treated my dog. Now its new staff, and now after 4 years they require me to dose my dog up on medication before his appointments. It was never like this before and all of a sudden certain people that is employed now at Southwest animal hospital, care less on taking care of pets and require you to spend your money on B.S. Now when I try to purchase my dog medication from chewy or pet smart, I have to get an approval from Southwest which is ridiculous, I would not purchase my dog medications from them merchants if Southwest did not triple the price on medications, they require our pets to take. My dog will no longer go to this facility, they are unprofessional and do not care about our pets like they use too. All for the former vets that know my dog King I thank you so much for taking care of him, but it's time we part our ways from Southwest animal hospital.

Best animal hospital we've ever been too before. We are so so happy to have found a place where our dog feels so at home when she goes in. All the staff is so kind and compassionate! We know our dog is in good hands with you all. Thank you all so much!

Took my Husky rescue for her first visit today. The staff were friendly, patient, and provided clarity on the cost of her wellness exam and immunizations prior to seeing the doctor. Prices are very reasonable and I'll definitely be returning with my other 2 dogs and cat in the future.

Great vets, vet techs, kennel staff, etc! Everyone is so nice and treats our puppy like their own! Our puppy has also been boarded here and we have had great experiences. It is well priced and the whole facility is very clean!

We witnessed a dog jump out of the bed of a moving truck on the interstate. I called this hospital because it was the closest one to the accident site. He was alive when I called the front desk but did not seem to have much time due to the amount of blood. When I began to ask for help the woman on the phone rudely and immediately started to ask who was going to pay for care instead of asking about the dogs health or giving any sort of advice or assistance. I was trying to find him help instead of discuss payments or set up an account with them. I even asked for other numbers to call that could assist me better and she said “all vets are going to say the same thing”. Minutes later the dog passed away on the way to their hospital after we decided to pay whatever amount to get help for this unknown dog. Once I got to the hospital I had to argue with the front desk woman to help us get any sort of assistance with his body. We are not from the area and they suggested we drive around with his body in the back seat and find an emergency clinic because we didn’t have an account set up with them so they weren’t going to help us. After asking the person at the front desk to ask the veterinarians on staff to help us at least 4 times she finally got up and the veterinarians immediately agreed to help us. I had to write my own description of the dog that passed incase the owner called around looking for him because they would not help me with that either. I understand needing payment because this is a business, but the bedside manner and rudeness regarding an emergency really needs to be addressed with the front desk or the entire staff. The front office lady never even got up to ask the advice of the veterinarians until the dog was passed away and I requested it multiple times. I hope you guys learn from this and become better for yourselves and for animals that really need assistance. My interaction with this clinic was jarring to say the least.

Do not go here! Loyal patients since 2004. Everyone is wonderful and had been for years. Then a year and a half ago - ALL prices tripled. No explanation - we kept going thinking it was us - then the word is out! Went to the new Animal Hospital in JC it was 75% cheaper. A Florida person bought it I heard and jacked up the price. That doesn't work in Jefferson City - you are losing customers left and right - it is the news of the town. Sad all the doctors and assistants are so kind. It's the owner I have the beef with and only with price.

First time there for my dog and I. Decided to move to a vet closer since we live here now. The whole visit was great. The first people in the door (receptionists) were okay. They weren't the friendliest in the office but not rude. I was new to the building, emailed records once I got there because I didn't have their email before I walked in. They seemed frustrated when they didn't get it right away. Nothing I can do about that part of it, so I screenshot and sent to their text.
I showed nurse once we were back in the back and the email was correct, she went off my phone. The only other thing I could have done was print it off and bring it in, but I didn't have access to a printer.
Sorry.
Otherwise, everyone was kind, took care of Reign and we were in and out in less than 45 minutes. Thank you.

I recently took my dog for a routine check-up at Southwest Animal Hospital, and I'm thrilled with the caring and efficient service they provided. The staff at Southwest Animal Hospital welcomed us warmly and made us feel right at home. During the check-up, the vet handled my dog with gentle expertise, ensuring a thorough examination while also making my fur baby feel comfortable. They took the time to discuss preventive care and answered all my questions, leaving me feeling confident in my dog's well-being. It's evident that they genuinely care about all of their patients, and I highly recommend Southwest Animal Hospital for anyone looking for top-notch veterinary care.

I've been with Southwest Animal Hospital for over a decade, and the experience has been exceptional. The staff is incredibly friendly and caring towards all my pets—cats, dogs, bunnies, even a pig. Their boarding facility has also been a lifesaver, always providing wonderful experiences. As an emotional pet parent, I truly feel that my animals and I receive the best possible care.
