Best place local to get machine work done. Came back stronger and better after loosing everything to a fire years ago. They will always have my business

Bad business practices and overpriced! Selected this shop as it came highly recommended by other local shops but unfortunately at the end of the transaction I wish I went elsewhere. PMI was 1.5hr drive one-way but I was willing to drive for quality work. They have reviews that attest to their quality but nothing speaks to their customer service and pricing. I asked PMI to do a slew of machine work on my cylinder head and block. I provided them everything they needed to facilitate the work I needed done. Mind you I stripped down both the cylinder head and block. I ended service early with them based on my experience and the added headache of the process. They charged me $800 for cleaning the block, removing x2 plugs and x2 bearings, then doing measurement checks. For starters they checked my block for straightness which I told them I don’t need it checked and just need a light skim for a clean matting surface. On my final bill they charged me to check the block for straightness and their process of doing so is what I did prior to drop off. They used a machinist straight edge and feeler gauges. Next they charged me to clean my cylinder head in which when I picked it up it was definitely not cleaned. I could have bought 1-2 cans of brake cleaner to do the same if not better job. They said it was because their machinist don’t like touching dirty parts.
Next they identified a crack in my cylinder head near the camshaft seal area as soon as they set it up on the bench in which they showed me pictures of the crack. I determined that it’s not a high friction/force area just a sealing surface so I could just use ultra grey RTV on it. Pictures don’t do it justice but I figured with their expertise they could advise me whether or not it’s catastrophic to the point I need a new cylinder head because the moment one of their guys loaded it into my truck that whole area where the crack was broke off. That being said if they would have determined the severity of the crack I wouldn’t of needed to pay to have it pressure checked and measured so I could have saved about $200-300. Lastly, they removed two bearings for the intermediate shaft also known as the oil pump drive gear on my block. Those bearings are not reusable and very difficult to acquire new ones. I was able to acquire new ones at a hefty price which requires custom honing of the bearings for the intermediate shaft to fit. Manufacture says so specifically and it the Bentley manual. PMI did do the right thing by removing them to clean the block but I found this out after the fact. I knew nothing about these bearings such as the removal/install process. Would have been nice if they notified me of the bearings before they removed them because I would have done some research and advised them to not remove them and change the process of how my block gets cleaned.
Majority of the charges could have been avoided if they informed customers up front regarding pricing by having a price sheet breakdown. Providing customers with a general idea of costs does set expectations rather than guessing what the end result would be. You would figure they have repetition and perform relatively the same practices/techniques for all engines they put hands on so why not have a pricing sheet. Obviously they need to go by some sort of standardize pricing to ring up customers but I guess that’s not for customer eyes. Overall, they do quality work but just way overpriced paired with bad business practices and poor customer service. They were unwilling to work with me on price and I walked away $800 out of pocket for just cleaning of the block and measurement checks. Not much to show for.

This is one of the only shops in Missouri I trust to do machine work on our customers nissan skyline engines. Always far exceeds my expectations and high quality work. Would give 10 stars if it were possible. Precision Machine will always have my buisness.

I have taken engines to them for rebuilding. They work with me during the rebuilds. This makes my engines run like new at a price that I am satisfied with.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE! Took my heads and rods in off my 855 big cam cummins. Rods needed crank end checked and new wrist pin bushings installed. Heads only needed checked. Received call saying my heads had no cracks and held vacum on test. And my rods where (one thousand) out witch is well in spec! Guy kept trying to get me to bore the rods for a (thousandth) of an inch while in spec for $110 a rod. Told him just install wrist pin bushings. 2 whole weeks later they call saying there finished and I need valve guides, valves, and new seats. Without permission he disassembled my heads and wanted $4500 to rebuild. Found new manufacture heads for $2000. Still cost me $1200 for rods and head disassembled! Never ever again. Hope this helps someone someday. Just stay away from here please!

I'm the owner of Assertive Powder Coating llc. in Camdenton. I get a lot of part here to be powder coated from my customers that have been to your shop. I'd like to say I am very impressed how clean you get these parts. how they can get a rear end axle housing of a 1957 Chevy to a near new condition is beyond me, with no axle grease smell what so ever left behind! great job guys! i recommend you to all of my customers.

I had my 08 k20z3 head resurfaced with these guys and they did a pretty great job. My engine has very little tolerances and that added some complexity to the resurfacing, but they made me aware of the possible routes I would have to take and how much it would cost (upfront). They also cleaned my head and valves with a parts washer, which was great appreciated. If I am unfortunate enough to have a blown head gasket, I will definitely return to these guys.

PMI is the first name in machine work in this area for a reason. Good honest and precise work every time, even on obscure classic cars like mine.

I took a normal 350 Chevy block in. I advised it needed to be cleaned and magna-fluxed. I also had them remove the freeze plugs and other small stuff. I was advised to get this block ready to go, I was looking at 1078.00 to get it ready to assemble. The block had no core shift and it didn’t even need a line hone. Lesson learned!! Stay away!!!
