This playground, the Katy Trail at Hartsburg, is many things to a few residents- it is also a few unexpected things to the many that arrive here in time for the most excellent and exceptional items of interest that can be had anywhere.

Lots nice views and the biking trail is level and nicely rocked. They made excellent use of the old railroad infrastructure.

Flooding hit the trail hard between McBain and Harrisburg, but the crews have been working hard to get it cleaned up. Rough patches here and there but everything is passable

This early morning run with a buddy meant we got to enjoy the trail with a slight haze lying close to the ground. Not quite fog but still pretty. At the Hartsburg trailhead, just 11 minutes from Ashland, there are bathrooms, gravel parking and a small restaurant called The Burg. Trail access here is roughly half way between Columbia and Jefferson City so it's not quite as busy as other starting points.

It's a very straight trail. Maintenance and facilities (bathrooms and trash) are decent on the areas I've been to. There's even running water in some of the bathrooms at the access points. It's very stroller and bike friendly.
