I love the YMCA, don't get me wrong. I swam on swim team for several years, and have been a member for 5-7 years. My issue is that the Swimming hours are TERRIBLE. Always activities taking up the pool, and now I understand why people had issues with the swim team. The hours for the pool have been reduced, and the weekends are terrible. On top of this, the rates have increased.I remember when the pool was open till 10:00PM on the week days and open till 8 on Saturday, and 6 on Sunday, now its just been shrunk so much.Swim team needs their own pool, or there needs to be a 'half size' pool for the parents/kids, and older people activities. The main pools just need to be lap swim and swim team ONLY.Again, I love the YMCA, and the people that work there. Just think it has been getting more constricting for the 'middle class' of the Hannibal area, and without any other convenient option for a lap pool, we have no choice.

Edit: another game we couldn’t watch. Can’t watch most of them because of people standing in front of the bleachers blocking the court. The YMCA does send out a notice asking them not to but they need to come in and enforce it during games. I go to EVERY game and have not ever seen them tell people to sit down. It’s just ridiculous. Today we watched a little boy picking up the soccer ball and carrying it to the goal and then kicking it in multiple times. Any other kid did that and they take the ball away and start the play again. The sport programs for children are a joke. First of all it is $80 to put a child in any of the sports for 6 games. The games are 16 min long total. That is way too much. I guess some people do get it for free but not us. Parents do not follow the rules. There is to be no drinks or food on the gym floor. There are children with candy and other food and drinks on the floor which distracts the other children who want the candy! So many people do not sit down. They stand in front of everyone so nobody can see the game. I have yet to be able to see an entire game. I have talked to the people who run the program and they said they check each game. Not true. If they did they would have to say something and I don’t think they would say a thing as long as they are getting their money. Also, when you sign your child up for to play with 3 and 4 year olds they will also put 5 year olds in with them. There is a huge difference between a 3 year old and a 5 year old. The 3 year olds don’t stand a chance. I wish we had somewhere else but it’s a small town and that’s all we have available. Thank goodness for Bear Creek for baseball so we don’t have to use the YMCA for that.

Really enjoy the people and the exercise opportunities. Always clean and enough equipment that you are never waiting.

The sauna is the only thing that makes the y worth a membership! The wellness room and track are filthy. People do not wipe down equipment and of course the employees do not care when they can not be bothered to sweep the track. It is a daycare for middle and high school students after 2:30-3p FYI. The students take up room and make working out harder because of the horse play. For the amount of staff, the facility should be cleaner and more people paying attention to the literal kids running around and standing in the middle of the track blocking walkers. Maybe have the children kept in one section of the facility or so people can still enjoy the facility and exercise or have more supervision for them. Below is just one example of how filthy the wellness room is.

YOUNG Men Christian Association,,, why are the hours directed to the adults? The hours are horrible on the weekends, especially Sunday. Open way too late and close too early. 24hr starting in Feb. and it's definitely not scheduled for children. Defeats the purposes of calling it the YMCA.

A decent place to lift weights. There's recreational activities for kids, and teens as well. The pool is open during certain hours for open swim, and to do laps. Theres also a sauna, and a hot tub. The price is a bit elevated, especially for a working class salary. One of the few places in town for teens, and young adults to work out.

The older lady at the front with grey hair was very rude and made things very complicated. We came in as a family and just wanted to all purchase day passes and one of us had membership but she said none of us were in the system. We’ve been there multiple times before so I don’t know what the problem was or if she was new but didn’t explain to us what we had to do to “get back in the system” she just made the process so long and wouldn’t explain anything. If you don’t wanna sit there for an hour just to check in an deal with somebody with an impatient attitude then I don’t suggest going to the YMCA in Hannibal MO.
