We used Mayflower for a cross-country move in 2021. Mayflower is a part of Unigroup, as is United Van Lines. We had previously used United Van Lines for two inter-state moves with no complaints.
Our experience was very different with Mayflower. First, they damaged several nicer pieces of our furniture. Our claim was handled by Mayflowers Claims Team 9. They got a furniture repair person to look at our damaged furniture. While inspecting our pieces, he indicated that any repairs that he did would still be visible. So, with some misgiving, we awaited Mayflowers efforts to repair our furniture. Instead of any repair effort, Mayflower sent us a settlement offer with a check. The settlement offer was so low that we knew we could not repair our furniture with those proceeds.
I elected to contest their assessment. I took our Ethan Allen dining chair to a local repair facility. He did a fantastic job and I couldn’t even tell where the damage had been. So then I got a Maitland Smith hall table repaired – again with stellar results. I also got quotes from him for all our other damaged pieces. I sent these quotes and my receipts to Claims Team 9. In response, I got an email from Claims Team 9 indicating that they would not budge from their initial settlement offer. I asked for a name and contact info for their manager. At this point, Claims Team 9 ceased communications with me.
I then drafted a letter (via USPS and return receipt) to Claims Team 9 and cc’ing two executives at Unigroup. Miraculously, I received a call from a person who said she was the manager of Claims Team 9. I was able to work with her to get a adequate settlement based on real costs instead of lowball estimates. Was it a perfect outcome? No!!. But it was time to move on – get the important pieces repaired and ditch the ones not worth the repair costs. All in all the whole process took almost 2 years to bring to resolution.
My conclusion is that Unigroup services have gone downhill since our previous two moves with United. I have shared my experiences with family and friends. I know I will never use Unigroup again. There are viable alternatives.

FYI: IF YOU'RE PLANNING A MOVE...I strongly suggest you think twice before using MAYFLOWER moving services. They "lost" about 20% of our belongings (1/3rd of a semi-truck) with no explanation why. We think they gave our stuff to somebody else (and nobody spoke up), as they often have more than just YOUR stuff on the truck. It seems a pattern, as they have a whole department to handle these types of losses. It then took months to be reimbursed. Of course we didn't have photos of most things, so they would only give us a partial refund, & that was of what we could remember. A year later, we are still discovering more & more items gone in the theft. BUYER BEWARE.

We've been in touch with your "Customer Care" 30+ times. If we can't provide proof we had it, you don't do a thing. Even then you discount it because you claim it's used.
Much bigger point that you miss is that YOU STOLE OUR ITEMS! Why should we have to do *anything* to get them back?

I was considering moving quotes and the person who worked with me on the phone was incredibly rude and actually hung up on me as I was asking questions about the process. Attitude does not build business.

We used Mayflower in October 2023 for our household move from Sharon, New Hampshire to St Louis, Missouri. We have moved cross country four times in the last 7 years and have to say that this was the best move we’ve ever experienced. Mayflower personnel were professional, courteous and careful with all of our belongings. Our driver, Nick was fantastic. This was our only move with ZERO damage, our goods showed up on time and the people who loaded and unloaded were amazing. A big JOB WELL DONE to our Mayflower team. Thank you!!!!

I contracted with Mayflower to move my household from north Iowa to central Alabama. They had a crew pack roughly half my items including high value item. 99% arrived undamaged. But a set of bed rails for my antique brass bed did not get on the trailer at the origin and a 6' tall hand carved wood bear and a live edge oak bench apparently jumped off the trailer in Nashville when they were mid load of my belongings. How does that happen?I am not happy and people who say they will call back with answers never do. This squeaky wheel will keep squeaking until I get my things. I gave Mayflower nearly $16,500. There will be a sizeable claim if I do not get my irreplaceable items.

The Mayflower Moving Co moved my military families entire household contents. Their truck caught on fire (brakes overheated so they said. Plus items that should of not burned up were missing from the truck!!!) causing everything my family owned for 30 years to be completely destroyed. We purchased their additional insurance and they wouldn’t honor the insurance because they claimed we had to pay for the COD for delivery! There was nothing to deliver! They destroyed every memory and item we owned! I was left with an empty house for a family of 5. Do not ever use this company to move your items!!!

Mayflower damaged or destroyed most of my possessions. Many antiques and collectables that were destroyed were one of a kind. Insurance covered less than one third of damage. We list tens of thousands of dollars using Mayflower.

We moved for Phoenix to Tennessee we thought since it was a trusted moving company we would use themThey were the most expensive. Let's just say it was the worst experience ever. They damaged all of our brand new furniture and our washer and dryer that weren't even 1 year old. We had over 4500 in damaged items. They sent someone out to check our stuff and then sent a check for $1500 which doesn't even cover the damaged items. We even had the extra insurance that covers 30,000. We had to spend extra time in the hotel due to their brakes that supposedly went out. Please don't use them for moving they are the worst company ever.

Moved from Washington state to St Louis area. I paid for 5 crates but only used 4, understanding we would get a refund for the less amount. Not only did they open up our crates while in their posession/storage and reshuffle our belongings into 5 crates so they didn't have to provide a refund, they lost a couple of items in the move including hardware to our crib that is a family heirloom no longer made. Upon calling the office to resolve these grievances, the responsible party was either always at lunch or never returned phone calls.Additionally, after selecting the service to pay all fees upfront, I received additional invoices with discrepancies in prices, amounts paid, and new amounts due. I have filed a complaint with the BBB hoping this will result in my refund and finally a response from the company acknowledging how unprofessional the back end of their service has been.

Hired Mayflower to move all of our furniture and boxes from NJ to Florida. They promised to send a tractor trailer and move all of our stuff in one day. Well, they are nothing but con men and deceitful. The imaginary tractor trailer never showed up. Instead, they sent 2 26ft trucks one sat in the Avenue back in NJ completely empty and left completely empty. The other one took all of our furniture and sent it to a warehouse or storage in Harrisson NJ. I never signed a contract for 2 26ft trucks and never agreed upon anything to go into storage. To this day our stuff is still in storage. The move was supposed to take place on 07/25/2022. This company like many other moving companies are deceitful and con artists. I have hired a lawfirm and I am suing Mayflower as well as their minions from Molloy Moving and storage. I hope by writing this review to help someone else, so that the same thing does not happen to them. They have many, many awful reviews on Google as well as the BBB. There is no appropriate adjective to describe the nightmare that we got into for trusting and hiring them. I had to rent 2 trucks from Penske at a cost of 7k to move 100-150 boxes that were in the garage. I am a 100% disabled service-connected Persian Gulf War Veteran. And my wife and sister-in-law are disabled also. And I have a big hernia from complications of Colon Cancer Surgery that I had done at the East Orange NJ VA back in Jersey. And because of carrying heavy boxes that they were supposed to come back the next day and pick up (which they never showed up) my hernia has gotten worse and now I need to have surgery sooner than I was supposed to. for your peace of mind and if you want everything to go well with your move. STAY AWAY FROM MAYFLOWER. THEY ARE FULL OF IT!!!!!!

Our move was horrible from California to Virginia. Received infested furniture, broken items and stolen property as well as the driver Andre must not like women as he totally was dominating and verbally abusive to the point that I was in tears. Thank goodness my sister was here for support. Felt threatened by one of the guys Andre hired to help move. Andre in my opinion does not like women asking questions, was told to sit and be quiet, was told my house was filthy even tho it was clean as a whistle. My rugs and floor were damaged as well as the door. Dropping boxes like it was routine and acceptable and I couldn't say a word. Finally had enough and kicked the helper out of my house. It was the worst experience. My 5 k mattress was folded like a bed sheet. We filed a claim had an inspector come out and now mayflower claims team 4 has stopped responding. The worst is the two items that they stole or lost belonged to my son who has passed and now those items being gone have broken my heart. I would never hire mayflower or United who they use as a third party. Called many times emailed dozens of times and no progress left message for supervisor and 3 weeks later no response. Every time we fill out one piece of paperwork they ask for more to be filled out and now that all the paperwork is complete we get complete silence from mayflower!! Who is running this company is my question and are they even aware of what is happening? If I could give this company a zero I would. Avoid this company at all costs would be my recommendation!! Complete nightmare!
