The lack of compassion, empathy and knowledge of your front desk personnel is horrible. I will never forget this experience. The intern was just fine, but when I had to call back the girl at the front desk as much as said go fly a kite. She said she'd have someone call me back, and that was two days later. They apparently don't realize these pets are like children to us. When my pet suffers, I suffer, and to have someone be so dismissive and uncaring was a nightmare. I think I was very generous in my one star rating. I hope that person at the front desk never needs emergency care or help afterwards. She might get a clue as to what her lack of caring means. People don't bring their pets to the emergency room for fun. It's a painful experience at the best of times. This person had no business dealing with people who are under stress and worried about their pet. I truly hope she doesn't own a pet. She should NOT!!!!

Brought my dog in on a Saturday, after being seen at Horton's on the prior Tuesday, because he was shaking & not eating. Horton believed my dog was experiencing muscular problems, due to no problems shown on X-Rays. My husband and I did not agree with the muscular guess and because he was getting worse, we ended up at University. He was examined & blood was drawn to see if he had Lyme disease. We were told results would be back the next day or day after. He was prescribed antibiotics. Results of test did not come back in 3 days and my dog was not getting better. He was prescribed more medication to try to stimulate his eating and reduce pain. 3 days after being prescribed the new medications my dog passed away. It has been more than 2 weeks since blood work was done & we STILL do not have the results of the test!!!!!! Several calls have been made & we keep getting the same answer, "They're still being processed!" I would never bring another pet here and strongly recommend all to avoid them.

Second time I've brought a pet here for an emergency situation, and the staff was polite, quick, and comforting.

The y did a good with my girl, I brought her thinking she had a paralyzed laryngitis and unfortunately they found , she had a brain tumor, long short story they treated her right.and explained everything to me all the times. I don't give them 5 stars because the waiting is a little by too long but I the same time I understand they have a lot to deal with

We moved to Missouri on 8/25/23. Our 3 year old dog got sick on 8/30/23. We needed to use the 24 hour services and were turned away, with our dog having trouble breathing, because she hadn't been seen at that clinic before. Mind you we drove over an hour to get there. They directed us to either Kansas City or St. Louis. Our dog passed away 45 minutes from Kansas City. We had used Companion services before, in another state but NEVER again. Emergency Services to a SELECT few.

My 13yr old dog was having what I thought was a stroke at 1:30am. Emergency clinic would not see her because it was past the 10pm cutoff for new patients. They told me I had to go to St. Louis for care. How can they call themselves an Emergency Services Clinic open 24/7 and then put restrictions on who they will see. I hope I never have to use this clinic in the future.

During x-rays my dog ended up on life support. My dog has never been close to needing life support before. Don't be like me, listen to the other reviews. I brought my dog in for a tracheal stint. During the pre-operation x-ray I got a call that my dog stopped breathing and turned purple. She was intubated and I was told she could die. The story of what happened changed a few times before I was finally told my dog was put on her side for X-Rays. When I asked if she was held down, I was told that she was "laid down" by someone. I am highly confident my dog would not be laid on her sides by a stranger for x-rays without resisting--especially if she is having complications breathing, where her first instinct is always to stand up. She will lay on her side by herself just fine, but if I try to lay her on her side, she will stand herself up due to observable breathing issues. My dog has never had breathing complications to the extent described, where life support was required or she turns purple. I am unsure of what happened since I was not there for her X-rays, but I truly hope my dog was not held down for X-rays while having an attack or otherwise neglected. I did discuss my dogs movement/mobility issues that impact her breathing with the vet student that did my intake. The vet student told me they do these operations all the time--so this must be far from the first collapsed trachea they've worked with. To add to the cluster: while my dog was intubated, they told me the surgery would be more or less ineffective if she does make it based on the X-rays they got. Cool, I understand. I just want my dog to not pass away at this point. Two hours later (after my dog makes it, thank you Lord) they offer to do the surgery this time. They say the surgery could be done today (after my dog had to be put on life support, and at least 7 hours into their shift). I declined and took my poor dog home. I drove five hours for this nightmare and they made me pay $950. $950 for saving my dog who nearly died under their "speciality" care. Dog went back with them in stable condition and all the sudden is in critical condition during X-Rays. Not normal. Read the other reviews. Steer clear. Also, there are lots of students there. Make of that what you will. Thank you God for saving my amazing dog.

Our dog got into the trash while we were out and ingested multiple things she shouldn't have that caused concern. We called and were told it would be best to bring her in to induce vomiting before it had been four hours. Since we had been gone for three we were in a time crunch. This was at night and we were told that they had pulled up our dog's file and since they had seen her before they would be able to see her. If they hadn't seen her before, since it was after 10 pm they wouldn't see her as a new patient. We load her into the car and make the drive. As we enter the parking lot they call to tell us that the level of care they previously provided didn't count as "seeing" her so she was technically a new patient (despite them saying they pulled up her and verified her information while on the phone) and therefore they would not treat her. We asked them to reconsider since it was a time sensitive issue, their mistake and we were in the parking lot after driving to them since they told us they would see her, but they refused to do so. This was negligence on their part and completely disappointing.

Such a blessing they are open 24/7. They helped save my poor Kitty who got so sick on a Saturday night we were not sure she would make it tell Monday. Also where not rude or judgment about her not being up to date on her vaccines.

Very bad experience. They really only care about getting money from you and are ok with quoting you one price over the phone, and then thousands different once you're there. I asked specifically for a blood transfusion for my dog. I was quoted $400 to $1,000 over the phone, get there and the dr wanted $5,000 with a promise of up to $10,000. They tricked me with signing the paperwork stating ownership while I was busy talking to the assistant about my dog and the paper gave permission to spend up to $500. It's all about getting money from people in distress. Long story short, my dog lived long enough to take her to another vet. That vet did the transfusion and everything for under $600! There is a huge difference between $5,000 to $10,000 and $600. That in itself speaks volumes about the character of this place! They also charged me for things I didn't ok in hopes to reach that $500. They're just despicable. Go anywhere else! They aren't in it for the animals.

UPDATE: I know that Bailey is getting excellent care. He will recover beautifully. I acquired a new puppy, and I feel much better about parting ways with Bailey for him to have a much better recovery for his fractured bone. My new puppy is super affectionate and even after I tortured him with a bath I got lots of kisses afterwards lol. I'm a new mommy with my new fur baby... and it soothes my heart to part ways with my previous doggy. Life can throw some vicious circumstances our way.. but as long as things are much better in the end.. it's ok. Oh by the way. Before I turned over Bailey to the vet for her to keep... she never bothered to splint his leg in the meantime. I told my friend today who knows this hospital very very well and he is flabbergasted that no one bothered to splint or cast him especially since they are a TEACHING FACILITY! (His femur was broken.)

I live in St. Louis and since our only Veterinary Cardiologist that sees cats in on Medical Leave, I made the trek to Columbia for my little guy. I went to school over in the Animal Science department here, so the location was super easy for me to find. Upon walking in, front desk service was....meh. One of those where you seem more of an inconvenience than someone coming to give them your money. But whatever, I get it. They deal with a lot of rude people. The initial drop off waiting time was only a few minutes, I was surprised how quickly they got me back. The Veterinary student and specialist were both amazing and kind, very easy to talk with. They were upfront about everything, including cost, and it was much appreciated. At about 2:20, I got a call that I could leave my little dude, but he was cranky so it would be appreciated if I could pick him him ASAP. I finished up a call and headed that way, getting there about 2:40. I checked in, then waited. And waited. And waited. At 3:00, I told the front desk I needed to run out to my car but I've been waiting 20 minutes so I should be called any moment so I would be right back. At 3:15, I finally followed up and asked how much longer because I had a call at 3:30 and didn't anticipate it to take an hour. The lady at the front desk called back again, told me "they told me they told you 4:30" - I said "nope, do you want to listen to the voicemail?" And she laughed and said "no" so I told her I had a call and I would be back between 4:30-5pm when they closed. Got in my car, already annoyed, and 3 minutes down the road, get another call to come back and get him. Which I did. Basically, the regular Veterinary Clinic doesn't communicate well with the specialities. I'm sure service for the general Veterinarians is great, but keep this in mind. What's upsetting is the specialists are NOT cheap. Now, as far as the Cardiology department goes, this was NOT their fault. They were nothing but amazing, helpful, and so sweet throughout the whole process. When I came back to get my kitty, they profusely apologized and made sure I was in and out within 10 minutes, with all the paperwork ready and payment prepared. This is totally on the front desk and the organization between the Veterinary Services and Specialists. It was extremely disappointing that there was so much miscommunication, and the blame was attempted to be put back on me. I'm happy I got my baby back, and he's healthy. But next time, I'll wait for the Specialist in St. Louis to come back.

This is one of the best veterinary hospitals in Missouri that I know of. They did reconstruction surgery on my grand puppy/dog and did a phenomenal job reconstructing a field previous surgery. They call you several times today to give you updates on the animal care process. I would recommend this facility to anybody who has pets large and small,To get the best care in Missouri. The costs are reasonable and if you have pet insurance you're able to file as they give you all the paperwork necessary to file a claim. They are very professional and friendly and I enjoyed the 2 Hour Drive because I know I'm getting the best care possible for my grand-dog.

Came with great diagnostic hopes for my 11mnth old Retriever- came at 12:39 waited all day for no answers and repeat phone calls. A waste of my time and my poor dog that has no hopes or ideas. It we needed to schedule tests it should have been told in the beginning. I waited 6.5 hoursHorrible.
