Straub's is a high end, quaint, and organized grocery store offering an abundance of gourmet foods. It is a relatively small grocery, so the selection is not wide range. The store has prepared foods such as honey BBQ chicken, sashimi and sushi, chicken salad, and a butcher’s counter. Their prepared foods and salads are good, though the fried chicken is not tender enough. The bakery provides cakes and a traditional St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake, though one purchased cake was noted as dry. The staff is tremendously helpful with orders, including for special occasions. The store also carries items like Budweiser beer. Overall, it remains a loved market.
Purchased a Miss Hullings cake and it was the most dry cake I have ever eaten. That is not the recipe I remember and my recommendation to Straub’s Market is discontinued that product immediately! We threw that expensive $19.99 cake away. Overall I still love Straub’s.

Many people make Gooey Butter Cake with cream cheese these days, but the original St. Louis recipe, dating back to the 1930s, doesn't include it. Straub's Gooey Butter Cake is a great example of the traditional recipe (bakers' formula) St Louis Gooey Butter.
