I've been mistaken for a homeless person before but not in REI! 45 minutes before closing I roll in asking for a size 12 hiking boot. Turns out the only pair of 12's are on a mannequin. Before I know what's happening, dude is wrestling shoes off a mannequin. It's obviously not a light mannequin because at first he struggles to lift it. I offered to help but with his head up the butt of a six foot mannequin he said "No, it's just a little akward". Anyhow, dude was awesome! I got the boots and signed up to be a member.

Stop playing with my daughter on our recent trip to St. Louis. We jumped in the store and were greeted by one of the workers. We headed to the back right corner so we could check out the resupply section. They had a lot of really good deals there.
It was raining so we decided to walk around the store for a little. This REI is not the biggest one that I’ve ever seen, but they do have a good selection. The first floor primarily has gear. You could find a backpack, something for biking, a canoe, or something for rock climbing.
We moved up to the top floor and that is where we primarily found clothing and shoes. The restrooms were also located on the top floor. The staff was great and the store was super clean.

Every other REI has always been wonderful, but not rhis one. I was in line with purchases and returns. I was not greeted by the lady cashier, but barked at to position my cart differently. Then interrogated rudely about the returns. She refused to return items because they were over 90 days from purchase. I questioned this as I have returned the same faulty item twice after 90 days before. I was always told that it's fine and was specifically told when purchasing this one that I would have the year to try it out. The manager came and was not friendly and agreed with her. As she continued to return my other items I tried to make conversation. She refused to make eye contact or even answer direct questions. Simply remained silent with her head down. When it was over I asked her to uncover her name so I could write it down. She refused and left. So I stood another 20 min at the counter to make my purchases. No one ever came. So I guess I'll order online. I fault both the manager mark and the cashier for a horrible experience.

There is 8 people in line and 2 checkers and both clerks are upselling multiple things, i would guess they get a bonus, while 30 minutes have passed to check out 8 people.
I love their products but this place is horrible to shop at.

Awesome store with great employees. Stopped in for some 550 cord and spoke with Shannon about pack options and fitting for a potential hiking trip. He was very knowledgeable and never pressured me to purchase anything. I’ll be back for sure.

I brought my daughter in shopping for camping shoes. Aarin was so helpful, knowledgeable, and patient! Best shoe shopping experience ever! We ended up shopping online to get a slightly different style than was available, but we couldn't have made that decision without his help. So even if they don't have what you need in store, it is worth it to visit for the expert customer service and advice on your purchase.

My daughter and I went to store to buy a pair of hiking boots for her. She was very particular and spent near two hours trying various shoes. Andrew was very patient and helpful, even when my patience was exhausted. We ended up buying the shoes somewhere else because REI did not the size in the color that she wants. This positive review is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the great service.

I recently purchased a mountain bike online and decided to purchase a helmet in person to make sure it fit. I walked in the store and was greeted by Kyle and told him I just purchased a bike and was looking for a helmet. I spoke with him for almost an hour and it was clear he has decades of first hand experience in cycling. He explained the science behind the helmet technology and helped me choose the best helmet for my egg shaped head. He also suggested I store a bike pump and spare tubes in my bike water bottle which I thought was genius. On a side note, he looks like he should be on an REI commercial or billboard as I can tell he spends a lot of time outdoors.

Overall, my experience at REI was generally positive, but an incident at the counter was less than ideal. My mother tried to return a pair of pants that didn't fit comfortably, adhering to REI's return policy. However, the staff member at the counter cautioned her about treating the store's flexible policy as a rental service, ultimately denying the return. This interaction was both uncomfortable and seemed unnecessary. My mom, being kind-hearted, chose not to respond and simply left. I'm sharing this feedback in the hopes that REI will use it to improve their customer service training, particularly in how returns are handled and communicated. Additionally, on a recent visit to purchase a small item from the resupply section, the same staff member approached my mom and girlfriend to lecture them about stricter enforcement of account-sharing rules. This approach felt excessive and unwarranted.
