When traveling throughout the East, Southeast and South, my wife and I love to compare hotels and restaurants while visiting battlefields and cemeteries and antebellum homes and gardens and parks and museums and art galleries. Southside Gallery in Oxford, Mississippi, is one of the most interesting art galleries we have seen. Located at 150 Courthouse Square, on the historic Oxford Courthouse Square, it has exhibited work by artists predominantly from the southeastern United States since it was established in 1993. Paintings and watercolors and mobiles and pottery and sculpture and photographs by such artists as Spence Kellum, Laurin McCracken, Jere Allen, Glennray Tutor, Rod Moorhead, William Dunlap and Carlyle Wolfe. Southside Gallery has played a vital role in Oxford's art community and has been committed to promoting the arts through its program of monthly exhibitions, frequent artist receptions and other public events.

Bought a phenomenal piece there last year for the Oxford house. The artist even came to my home to talk about it and make a minor frame adjustment. We love them.

We recently had my son's rehearsal dinner at Southside Art Gallery. I cannot say enough about Wil and the other staff. They were so helpful and accommodating. The setting was magnificent and perfect for our dinner guests. I would highly recommend this venue for a small dinner party, we easily served 50 people and were very comfortable. Please don't hesitate to contact Wil at the gallery for your next event!

This place often has interesting shows, but the art seems to be designed for those who know a little about art and have a lot of money. I doubt that truly discerning art buyers pay their prices for the art displayed. In one artist shows, the works are generally repetitive, variations on a theme rather than showing the artist's range.
