Very educational and informative on black history and the struggles they experienced during that era. They artifacts seems to be genuine from that time and in some rooms of the museum you can actually sit in some of rooms to experience what they saw and felt during that time frame. I recommend that everyone goes at least once to get an understanding of what it felt to be a black person back then.

The Two Museums are very nicely done! It is a very immersive and informative experience. Though I learned Mississippi History and about the Civil Rights in school, this had a lot more depth and really brought it to life.
They also have some programming on special occasions and free exhibits on Sundays.

These museums were fantastic! They have just the right amount of artifacts and videos to rest your feet while still learning. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. If you can come in a Sunday there is free admission to both museums and parking should not be a problem as Jackson is very quiet in the morning. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a small snack or visit the cafe in order to keep up your energy to see both museums thoroughly.

Very nice experience. These are sizable museums. I spent 3.5 hours here, but I also tend to read all of the information. I would think folks should plan on about 2 hours minimum, unless you just plan to blow through the displays. The Civil Rights museum takes about twice as long to see as the History Museum. I really appreciated the Civil Rights Museum in that it presented the history very fairly. It showed the terrible abuse, but also the struggles, the victories and the heroes. I saw the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL, which only focused on the victimhood and nothing more. It was a really lopsided presentation, but this one is much more balanced. They also have several side rooms where you can see the more graphic side of the struggle if you can take it (and feel it is age appropriate for families). Bravo. Well done. For the price, you really get to see a lot. Highly recommended.

Very good museum. Most exhibits were present and operational. The MS History easily takes 2-3 hours to complete, while the Civil Rights Museum takes between 1.5 - 2 hours to walk through. It will definitely fill the morning, but more easily could be a 3/4 day activity.Price for entry: $15Ticket type: Adult

Nice displays very informative. Had to go through a metal detector and a mean lady security guard to get in though. 15 $ admission

We went on a Tuesday. The five in my party enjoyed both museums immensely. It never got boring. The Civil Rights Museum was interesting with movie clips, music, and plenty to read. We were looking for more to see and were at the end. I was impressed.

My family visited the Two Mississippi Museums during our Southern Civil Rights roadtrip and it certainly exceeded our expectations! There are two parts to the museum--one part that focuses on Mississippi history and one part that focuses on Civil Rights history with a particular lens on the Mississippi specific events and policies. The Civil Rights historical exhibit took us about 3 hours as there was a plethora of interesting exhibits to read along with short videos throughout. What was really special though--was the opportunity to chat with a Freedom Rider who is on staff at the museum to hear about their direct experience advocating for change back in the 1960s. This stop is a MUST see when visiting Mississippi!

I really like this museum. It is the definition of fitting 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag. It is part of the Two Museums along with the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. There is limited street parking available and they have a very nice free garage that you can park in as well. There is a small cafe and a gift shop right outside of the museum doors in the lobby. Admission is for both museums. When you enter here you can either view a short film about Mississippi that is narrated by Morgan Freeman. You can also choose to bypass the film and get right into the museum. I recommend checking out the movie though. It is well put together and nicely done. The museum covers two floors, is very clean, and well put together. It covers Mississippis' Native American background/history, the civil war, the importance of cotton on the state's economy, the state's music, natural disasters, Mississippi artist, writers, musicians, and poets, a large war exhibit and it does not shy away from the state's racism history. My favorite exhibits were the war exhibit and the music exhibit that is set up like a juke joint and you can play music via a juke box. (Hey Bo Diddly) I really love this museum. I learned a lot while I was here and gained a greater appreciation of Mississippi. The museum is high tech and has videos playing on a loop in a few of the exhibits. Near the exit of the museum you will find two booths where you can record your personal stories. I had a great time here and spent about 2 hours going through the exhibits. I would have stayed longer, but they were closing. I highly recommend checking out this museum, plus you get free parking and a two for one deal. You can't beat that.
