Self Esteem brands, as of my review, has a Google rating of 2.6 stars. If there's a pattern, there's a problem...I applied for a marketing and communications job in January 2024. I responded via email to written candidate screening questions, met with Debra Ziemann in HR, and was then nearly immediately scheduled to meet with the hiring manager, Meg McDougall.I met with Meg via Zoom, and she immediately let me know she only had 20 minutes to meet with me -- not the 30 minutes as scheduled; she let me know she had a work dinner and also needed to pick up her daughter. Meg spent the first 10 minutes introducing herself, the company and the finer details of the position, leaving me 10 minutes to present myself and ask questions; not much time, in my opinion, to shine and present my best self, also putting me on the spot to rush through my responses. While speaking, Meg was interrupted *twice* by her dogs, once directly in the middle of me telling her about myself and my background, which required her to physically get up and leave the meeting. I continued speaking after she returned, feeling completely unheard and disrespected, because I was excited for the opportunity and because I was determined to demonstrate my professionalism and grace, even if that was not extended to me.When Meg then asked me if I had any questions, I asked her what the metrics of success were for the position as well as the markers for areas of improvement -- only to see Meg visibly hurrying me along to finish my question. She responded briefly at best, continuing to scurry me along to my next question. While in the middle of my next question, Meg stopped me and told me she needed to leave to pick up her daughter, leaving me -- for a third instance -- feeling entirely insignificant, disrespected and worthless, despite my eagerness to learn more about the role and company and not being afforded any shot at a full and complete interview that other candidates had been treated to.The very next day, not even having an opportunity to send Meg my professional writing and design samples she hurriedly asked for before she rushed out of our interview, I received a rejection email from DebraWhat?! I'd been rejected -- and why? Because some grossly unprofessional, wildly inappropriate and third-rate manager thought she was so important that she couldn't afford me the same interview opportunity as other candidates?I sent an email to Debra and Meg, expressing exactly what you see here, and also alleging discrimination. Debra's response? "Thank you for your feedback. Super sorry you felt the way you did." Of course, I'm paraphrasing the second sentence just a bit, but it wasn't far off from what Debra actually said.Folks, look at everyone's Google reviews before me -- whether from customers or otherwise, people from all over are giving Self Esteem brands horrible reviews. And I'm living proof that those people are spot-on in their characterization of this company and its employees. If there's a pattern, there's a problem...

A horrible brand who should be put out of business. Literally the worst example of corporate greed and bad humanity I've ever experienced based on my encounter with the owner of Anytime Fitness in Volo IL, one of the worst human beings on the planet. (Even his employees dislike him).

As the son of two Vietnamese war refugees, a lifelong Mechanical Engineer, and someone who went from Obese to Fit while approaching 40 (100 lbs lost!) , I can not thank SE Brands enough for giving me a pathway to pursue and attain the American Dream of becoming a successful business owner. When banks, landlords, and other franchises literally laughed me out of their offices, SE Brands was the only company that gave me a chance. After inquiring, they personally gave me a phone call, heard my story, and despite my weak Personal Financial Statement (as the son of two immigrants who came here with the clothes on their back), and supported me through the entire process and continue to support me every day.Since Feb of 2020 (great timing, eh??), I left my dead-end Engineering career behind and am working full-time in a business I've created and have the privilege of making a huge impact on the health and wellness of our community while employing a salaried staff who enjoy paid vacation & health benefits!Appreciate the heck out of you guys up there in Woodbury! Ya'll definitely get a Hell yeah from this Franchisee!!

I wanted to let you know of a horrible experience I’ve had with one of your subsidiaries.I wouldn’t recommend Anytime Fitness to ANYONE!Re: Anytime Fitness Gibsonia, PAI signed up for a “free” 6-week workout program on a Monday… This included paying $698.88 for future use. I was told by the owner, Jacob Sager to begin the program the following Monday. The Friday before I was to begin, I went to the emergency room for a medical issue related to my heart. I contacted the owner the next day let him know that I needed to see a specialist and would not be able to start the program. I told him that I could get him a letter from the physician. I also told him that I would like a refund. He told me that he could postpone my start date, or I could transfer my 6-week program to someone else who I know who may want to start this program. He said that these were my only 2 options. He also told me that Anytime Fitness corporate is very strict with refunds, and they are the reason he is not able to refund my money. I contacted AF corporate. I was told that AF corporate does not handle billing or refunds, and there was nothing that they could do to help because all locations are individually owned.Jacob also questioned me about my heart condition and tried to advise me on what medications I may need to use. He also told me that my condition is usually not life-threatening although he is not a physician.I asked for a refund, I asked for my deposit to be transferred to another client and then he could refund me, I asked if I provided a letter from my doctor if I could get a refund. In the end, he said he would not give me a refund. Jacob eventually said "worst comes to worse, I can probably just give you $699 of my own money."I spoke with Jacob and AF corporate again. I informed Jacob that corporate told me they do nothing with refunds or billing and that he would have to be the one to give me my money back. Jacob told me that he already offered me two options, as mentioned above, and would not give me my money back unless the doctor told me that I could never exercise again. And now corporate won’t return my calls… they blame the owner, the owner blames them. It’s ridiculous and horrible business practices.

After reading the reviews it makes me want to cancel my membership. Why would you not tell people if a gym was closing and then make them pay again for a new reinstatement fee?

After many calls and voicemail with no reply, I finally had a real representative from member relations answer my call. In the past 3 years Anytime Fitness dropped from a 15 out of 10 to less than a 3 out of 10 by breaking promises and their contract with me. In addition to failing to refuse to cooperate with unlawful legislation closing gyms and requiring masks (no can can restrict someone's health- it is a Human Right, PUBLIC HEALTH LAWS WERE UNCONSTITUTIONAL AT THE POINT OF THEIR MAKING, government must protect us without infringingon our Rights or privileges- confirmed by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Jon Roland), they fail to hold their clubs accountable to Anytime Fitness values, culture, Mission, and Vision. Anytime Fitness Headquarters did not resolve the following issue reported to them about the Oshkosh, WI Club even though my contract is on file with that very club:I was under the grandfather clause of my contract and the gym owner came up and stated he wouldn't honor the contract promising a lifetime rate and no new contracts (month-to-month after two initial contractual years). He upcharged me and forced me to sign a new contract. I reach out to two nearby Anytime Fitness managers that confirmed his unethical use of the statement on the contract stating they can cancel memberships as I didn't violate any rules (which is the purpose of that statement on the contract). When I became a member, I was told that as long as I kept my membership I'd be grandfathered in at the same rate for life because Anytime values lifelong members. I even paid for the membership when I didn't live by an Anytime Fitness to keep my grandfathered in rate. Furthermore, current staff uses excuse of coaching club to push members out of the way for classes and personal training. They use entire sets of equipment leaving none for original members (ex: mats, dumbbells). The sad part is that when these new members reach their goals, they will be stepped on in favor of new short-term members. This is a direct violation of Anytime Fitness purpose, Mission, and culture. I paid for membership to this gym while the chain was growing, meaning I had to pay to use other gyms before they grew to cities I traveled to, and now that they've grown because of members like me, they are stepping on us (violating best business practice and ethics). I would've given Anytime a 15 out of 10 prior to this experience. I want to note that the new owner is kind and worked with me on a new contract, but it doesn't honor any of the promises and contractual obligations Anytime Fitness made with me when I joined. I reported the issue to member relations and they haven't made it right. I have used this gym due to their original mission and values to stay healthy instead of sleeping while staying with my daughter at Children's Hospital (to be a strong dad and role model), and I promised her at her funeral I'd fight unethical actions with all of my might. Anytime Fitness needs to make good on its contractual and word-of-mouth promises to all of its members, even those who carried it to success. The gym promises fitness anytime and anywhere to its members, and that is vital due to how much our healthcare system cannot do for you even at the best hospitals. The best way to ensure good health, is to keep up with fitness anytime and anywhere. Also, they stated that the gym needed a larger facility when it had 40 to 50% less members and I was told my increased rate would keep numbers low. Now, after adding close to 50% more members, they haven't expanded as promised over 5 years ago. If they want to add new members, that is great and should be a goal, more resources and space need to be obtained instead of stepping on original loyal members.

I am deeply saddened. I've been member at Buffalo Anytime since it's opened. I don't complain until now. Besides me there is members complaining in 2022 about the temperature. One thermo Stat says 74 degrees and the other one at 71. This is insane!! The manager does not resolved the problem. Way too hot.

Anytime Fitness 5 stars all day all year I’ve been member for 15 years . This location not open at 6pm. Almost any anytime fitness is open 24 hours. Should not be Anytime Fitness franchise if they aren’t open 24 hours

I've been a member at Anytime Fitness for over 8 years, and in that time I've never missed a payment, and was never late on a payment. A couple of months ago the location I was working out at closed. No notice was given and my membership was simply cancelled. When I called back to have my membership reinstated, I was told that in order for me to join, I would would have to pay the current (read more expensive) rate. One of the reasons that I joined this gym in the first place was the promise that my rate would never change as long as I kept my membership. When I called their office they informed me that there was nothing they could do. Because... you know... they can't. I got no other reason other than... "they can't help me".What kind of gym arbitrarily and without notice cancels their paying customers memberships, then tries to bill them more money when they ask them to reinstate their membership? When I think of the way this company handled this situation the only word I can think of is horrid. They have no sense of obligation or responsibility to their customers. Its no wonder they have more 1 star reviews than 5 star reviews.Be smart and avoid this place at all cost.

Pricing is different across the board. If you sign up at a cheaper place and start going to a more expensive location your monthly dues increase. Completely unacceptable.

Anytime Fitness in Roseville MN Should Get Zero Stars Anytime Fitness in Roseville closed in March of 2020 due to COVID. An email was sent in April 2020, that no money would be taken from accounts 30 days after the closure. Money was taken from my account in April, May, June, and August despite sending a cancellation request on May 25, 2020. I was told my account was frozen. I said I didn't want it frozen - I want to cancel because I am over 65, have underlying health conditions and, according to the CDC, my population should not be going to the gym. I have called. I have written. I have reported them to the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Now I am dealing with a collection agency. In May of 2021, I received a collection letter from First Credit Services saying I owed $556.18 to Anytime Fitness. I have not been to the gym since March 13, 2020. I have sent multiple emails to ATF. They charged my bank account well over $400 when the gym wasn't even open. This is terrible - ruining my credit after stating in an email I would not be charged. The other issue is they say they are Silver Sneakers providers. I provided my Medicare information to them showing that I was eligible for Silver Sneaker rates. Silver Sneaker rates were never reflected in the invoices that hit my bank account. Buyer Beware!
