I am typically in this plaza for Kohl's, Five Below, and New China. I decided to change things up by visiting this Michaels store while in southern Rochester last Friday. When I lived in Rochester, I don't recall ever visiting this store. It wasn't that I wasn't interested in arts and crafts. I was probably more interested in Bed Bath and Beyond that was next door. It is now an empty, shuttered store. I wanted to get a calligraphy pen. Nothing fancy. I was thinking one with a felt tip. I like practicing calligraphy when I have some free time. I am on vacation, so it seemed perfect. In any Michaels store, the challenge is trying to figure out where the calligraphy aisle is. This store was no different. It's huge! This store has a lot of Sanrio items. Hello Kitty is the star, from large silicone cake pans, to figures that you can paint. I was not expecting so much Hello Kitty and friends merchandise. It was cool and a pleasant surprise. I found the jewellery section. I liked looking at leverbacks for earrings. You can also get a bunch of charms for bracelets and necklaces. I particularly liked the Eiffel Tower ones in various sizes. I managed to find the calligraphy section. I didn't need to ask anyone. I did it! Aisle 59. I found exactly what I wanted. I got a Speedball Elegant Writer pen. It was my first pen that I used to learn calligraphy back in grade six and it's perfect for travel. My first one was green. I got one in black. I had a nice woman at the checkout counter. I hadn't visited a Michaels store stateside in a while. However, she managed to find me in their system using my cell phone number. I paid with a credit card. Done! I passed on getting a bag. I thanked the woman, placed my purchase in my purse, and left to fetch my takeout from New China before driving back to Bloomington. It has been fun practising calligraphy on my vacation. It started with using a small pad of paper in my hotel room. I have moved to using a notebook that I got at Dollar Tree. Getting my calligraphy pen from this store was a great $3 purchase. I'm pleased with it. (502)

I pretty much live here. I'm a craft fanatic, everything from needle work to ceramics. This store has it all. Also many seasonal decorating items. They do custom framing which is also very handy. Watch for the coupons in the paper and you can save even more.

The DIY jewelry dept is always stocked up, clean and organized. Prices are a little steep compared to other craft stores but they are good quality. On my last visit 3 employees asked if I needed help and the Manager was very helpful. It was my 1st time buying at this craft store and I will certainly come back. Tip: Use the mobile cupons from their website. You'll a few bucks.

This is a very well stocked store for just about anything you would need for your hobbies or crafts. I especially like their framing department. The man was very helpful in advising us on how to frame a painting I had inherited. I had no clue on such things as matting and colors, he spent about a half an hour helping us page through all our options and then there were just so many styles and textures. In the end the painting looked fantastic. It only took a few days. Good service and store.
