I had given Jason a deposit for my dog to go to a six week training at cannon River kennels. We decided to follow our gut and not send our dog here do to him only needing work on not pulling on the leash. I called several times to cancel and was unable to reach anyone. Finally spoke with someone and they hung up on me after me saying we decided to not attend. The next day I received a call from Jason and he was very rude. Would not let me talk would talk over me and not listen to anything I had to say. When I told him I needed to do what I needed to do ( what was best for my dog and family)… he interrupted me by yelling are you threatening me?! But if he would have just listened to me maybe he would have under stood.

I sent my GSP there for the 2 week bird and gun program. Honestly pretty disappointed with their work. I had high hopes for them and I had heard good things from a friend. It didn’t really seem like they put a ton of effort into my dog. They tried to get me to leave my dog there for an extra week. When I said no, they called me the day before I was supposed to pick her up and said the “had a big breakthrough”. Just seems like they are trying to get more money out of me. My dog came back with some cuts on her face and paws. Also all the calluses on her paws were gone. She is also considerably skinnier than when she left. Jason was fine when I talked to him over the phone. But in person he was very unprofessional. My girlfriend was there when we picked up the dog and he said some pretty unsavory things to her. Needless to say I won’t be going back and won’t be recommending this place. If you’re going to spend the money on training a dog. Do it at a place that’s actually worth it.

Best kennel service around, 13 years ago My family got the best hunting dog anyone could ask for. Beautiful yellow lab. Trained by the best and still going strong. If you want a Precise and calculated hunting companion, cannon River kennels is the go-too

Our dog came home with a very large circular wound on his neck. I had a bad feeling about this place I wish I would have listened to my gut. When I called to check in jason was very short. Cannon river switched our dog food on us didn't ask or even tell us. We couldn't even see archie for 10 weeks. Didn't like the way Jason called my dog names either.

I sent my German Shepherd for the 8 week course back in July, and she is still very well trained. Worth every penny spent! I definitely would recommend to anyone with an unruly puppy that needs help training them.

Cannon River Kennels did an exceptional job at companion training (both on and off leash) our family dog. Very communicative with us during training and helpful with what to expect when home.

Love this place. Yes they are about 20-30 min south of the twin cities but they are also a great value and extremely accommodating. I had to extend my dogs stay twice this time do to changes in my work trip, and they had no problem accommodating my needs. I have been bringing my dogs here for a couple years now and am pleased every time. Thanks Jason and team!

We just picked up our 8 week old yellow lab from JJ at Cannon River Kennels. He was so knowledgeable to talk to and very friendly. It’s too bad to read the reviews on here, I can see where it may be tough to communicate with JJ because he seems so hands on in the shop with the dogs. But I can guarantee when you visit him in person he will give you his undivided attention as well as tips and tricks for training. Our puppy is everything we wanted her to be, and more. Highly recommend!

Jason and JJ know dogs and people extremely well. They breed and train excellent hunters and family companions.

Had a deposit in on a puppy from them. Never received any communication after putting down my deposit, only to find out months later things didn't work out. Understandable situation, but again they never said a peep without being harassed. Was told I would be contacted with options, months again with no contact. Asked for my deposit back and got a very agitated and aggressive response. Highly unprofessional, would not recommend.

Picked my dog up after a 3 night stay and she had 5 abrasions on her face and shoulder area where the fur was worn off and bleeding. Called and talked to Jason and he couldn’t tell me what happened. When I pressed for info he got confrontational and said it may be the sanitizer they’ve used for 20 years. When I asked for a SDS for the sanitizer he asked if when my kids got sick at school if I would call and complain? Never answered my questions, said that he didn’t care if I wanted my money back and wasn’t going to take responsibility for the injuries. Obviously doesn’t care for the animals they are paid to care for. Go elsewhere.

Our dog was at Cannon River Kennels for 3 nights and when we picked her up, she had abrasions on the left side of her face, nose and shoulder. We spoke with both owners Jason and JJ. JJ said it was her anxiety and she was trying to escape the kennel. No measures were taken to stop her from this action. When asked, as a pet owner if you picked up your dog in this condition, wouldn't you be concerned? Jason said, no he wouldn't. If you're ok with Jason's answer, this place is ok for you. If you would be concerned, find another kennel.

Have had my dog there for boarding and training programs. The last training program Jason and JJ went above and beyond to make sure my dog Braun finished to their standard of quality. They kept him an extra 3 weeks at no additional charge to get him there. He came back exceeding expectations! Looking forward to many seasons hunting behind him.

Had a unprofessional conversation with someone down there today, they really didn't let me talk much, going on and on how my dog would be hunting ready this fall with there "2 week gun dog program" this next weekend and keep asking for credit card info. I asked him if we could take a step back and review a long term program, not just two weeks, and he just kept asking for the payment options. i asked if i could come down and check out the kennel and review the program in more detail, he said i was "nuts". Sorry Cannon River kennels you just lost a referred customer, and will not be getting my 550.00, or the long term business.

I have had three dogs trained for behavior by Cannon River over the past 17 years. In each and every case, the results were nothing short of incredible. My more mature puppies (eight-to-ten-months old) that were uncontrollable and rambunctious turned into wonderfully obedient and lovable pets. While some people shun the idea of correction and shock collars as "mean" or insensitive, my experience is that the dog comes back a better companion with training that lasts their lifetime. I've tried the "treats" method of training and it does not result in any benefit or improvement. If you want a dog that respects and is a great companion for you and your family, you cannot find a better, more thorough trainer. The end result and transformation is simply incredible. Craig
