My wife, our little chihuahua Chica, and I went to Gold Mine Camp so I could go on a Black Bear hunt. It is located on the Vermillion river. With your stay, you have use of a boat and motor to do some fishing.Let me just say......IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!The fresh, crisp, northern Minnesota air is incredible. Leif Gunderson, and his wife Christine own the place. They do a really good job. Truly a "mom and pop" sorta place. If you want flashy bells and whistles, go elsewhere. This is not that place. You get what you need. And the service is wonderful.Nice individual cabins are a cool touch. And there are only 7 cabins. So, not many people. Also, dont expect you social media, email, or phones to work. Some may see it as a drawback, I loved it. There is satelite internet, if it works. But you need to be near the main building.Pack in all your own supplies, including a fan or two. There is no A/C.Bring your toiletries, towels, T/P, soaps.Bring all your food stuffs, there is not a store on site, and the closest one is over a half hour away. One last thing, you may be wondering if I got a bear, or, you may not. But I'll tell you........I did, I did get a bear. My first ever!Thank you Leif and Christine. Your hospitality was great.

Had a good time at the Gold Mine Camp. Northerns were a little slow this year, biggest was a 36 inch. Perch were crazy big!

It's exactly as described. This isn't Grandview and happy that it isn't.Someone described it as rustic. Well maybe but just what I like. Value priced. Great host. Easy drive from the Cities. The cabin was very clean and the property around the cabins very well kept. Lief asked multiple times on check in if we were happy with the cabin and we were. Bring extension cords as there are few outlets and we had two guys with CPAP machines. If you have a traveling set of cooking stuff bring it as there is the minimum stuff for cooking. Since I like to cook, my traveling cooking bin was well used. A bonus for me was that the refrigerator was a decent size and ran great. Didn't freeze anything and stayed cool. The fishing boats were my kind of boat. Boats were clean and the Merc motors worked great. Ran all day on an amazingly little amount of gas. Fishing wasn't great but at least it wasn't just our group.. If we would have landed what got bit off we would have had a great trip.

All in all great value. Pike fishing, had good numbers but few fish over 25". River was low, boats were more than acceptable, had a couple of issues that were quickly resolved. Cabin was again acceptable, aged but for the cost hard to beat. Bud

This place took absolutely forever to get to it's in the middle of nowhere. There's a tight dirt road that takes an hour to get through but other then that when you get there the cabins are lovely and rustic. The complainant I have about the cabins is that they don't have an air conditioner which makes sleeping nearly impossible. The river that it's on Isnt the best for fishing as we were on it for 6 hours and got one decent sized perch. I must say the owners were incredibly nice and trustworthy people and I honestly feel bad for giving them the review I did because they were so nice but if your okay with all the bad things then this place will be perfect for you but it wasn't too experience for my family.

Very quiet and peaceful. Leif takes good care of you and is there for anything thing you need. We already booked a spot for going up in the fall for a grouse hunting trip.

My family of 7 (Two adults, 5 kids ranging from 13 years - 4 months) spent a few nights here last August. Meant to write a review sooner but it got away from me. We had a wonderful time and made so many great memories. It was so nice to disconnect and slow down. There was wifi available but we rarely used it. We brought two kayaks and spent our time kayaking in the early mornings, swimming when it warmed up by mid-day, fishing in our two boats we rented from Jerry and Leif, catching lot of bass and sunnies and a couple walleye, and the last day Jerry took the kids out to catch northern and they all caught their limit of big northern. The Vermillion river is very calm and flows by slowly so jumping off the docks and swimming with the kids was easy and relaxing. We kayaked far upstream in the mornings without much effort. Lots of beautiful scenery and birds. The cabins were rustic and beds were comfortable. We had room for the kids to all have their own bed. Aside from the normal camping items, things I would suggest bringing:A few mouse traps (we caught mice at night :)A few fans (one for every bedroom at night)Extension cords (not every room has outlets for the fans)Night lights (to find your way to the bathroom at night and put in the bathroom)Lots of mosquito Spray and possibly something stronger to spray around your screen door and screen windows to keep the mosquitos out at night (and day).Benadryl (we didn't need it but would be good to have on hand)Pot and pan (We used what they had, but would've been nice to have the sizes I normally use and types of pots)Cooking utensilsLawn ChairsThe kids especially loved Jerry and his dog. He is such warmhearted person and helped us all the time. He helped clean even the littlest fish they caught, he took the kids fishing the last evening, he helped us with anything we needed for our cabin, was a fun conversationalist for all of us. The kids will never forget him and neither will we.Thank you Leif and Jerry for everything. I know this will be one of the most memorable summer vacations we've ever taken.
