I had a good experience at the academy. I like the method Larry uses and hearing about his experiences and learning from them. I also liked that the staff and Larry's friends helped without complaint. Like any school, they are imperfect and do have their downsides, but I would give the method 5 stars! Good job, Larry and thanks so much for training us!

Seems to be a good training facility. Did not participate in any training so can't comment on that but Larry is a very nice and seemingly experienced man.

I had a wonderful experience at Minnesota Horse training. Larry is a talent individual who shares so much with his students. Also as a bonus to all this great material, I made life long friends. Class of May 2010

I second a previous review that "But unlike Larry Surrett advertises, he is not the inventor of these methods. The methods he uses are taken from the once world-wide famous Professor Beery in Ohio, in the late 1800's & early 1900's and another horse trainer & inventor Stambouii from Germany." But that is the least of his problems. There are minors left unsupervised, alcoholic beverages attainable, and no check ups on anyone once Larry has left the property. Most of the nights he was drunk or had been drinking. He left minors unsupervised with their horses on a trail ride to take the adults back to the property "first", swear he had been drinking that day as well. A young gal (minor) that needed help with her horse and had asked more than once for some help, with an unmanageable horse that showed signs of aggression had flipped it's self over backwards (luckily not while riding) without any received help even after that. He also has a "Cowboy friend" that came whipping his horse on into the barn at a canter who proceeded to get off and beat his horse, try taking it over the set up obstacles and whenever it wouldn't go up onto one he went nuts after this horse (Not just tapping or correcting, full on beating his horse). Larry was not present to do anything about it nor did he flinch at what he heard. He didn't do anything about it, the man still goes there. He also does not teach you everything that is listed that he will instruct you on. There were also a few horses he was listing for sale that had nasty behaviors he was claiming to be "kid safe" that should never be let near a child.

I graduated from Larry Surrett's school in May, 2013. I learned and experienced more than I expected and highly recommend the full three week course to everyone who works with animals. I've applied Larry's eight step process on horses , cattle and dogs with great success. His primary focus is on the safety of the rider which is achieved by following his 8 step program when training animals. I also purchased a young horse from Larry while there. And three years later I'm still very happy with the horse. I found Larry to be the most honest horse trader I've every known.

I'm extremely pleased I attended the MN Horse Training Academy. The skills and knowledge Larry Surrett teaches can't be compared to any one! He is very passionate about horses and all animals! He willing shares his skills, knowledge, and experiences. One of Larry's main goals is to keep you the horse enthusiast safe. He will tell you several times during the duration of class that you have chosen one of the most dangerous sports.
Larry has put together a program that will have your horse trained in three weeks! No one else can do that!! You don't have to take any other class. The program he has put together puts the best practices in place so you don't have to waste your time doing programs that either don't work, take too long, are unsafe, and put your horse through extra stress.
Larry is a simple man. That statement is not an insult. It is a compliment. He is not a fancy man. He doesn't need or want to be flashy. He doesn't have a fancy barn. He has a barn that meets the needs of providing shelter. Given the choice your horse would chose to be outside. If you could be a horse for one day you would be the best horse trainer possible. Larry will tell you that over and over.
Larry is a naturalist. He knows how to take care of horses. He know when a vet needs to be called. He treats his horses with respect and he treats them humanely.
Do yourself and your horse(s) a favor and take Larry's Surretts program.
