We had a wonderful experience with Over The Top Retrievers. Beth does an amazing job with the pups, when our Mabel came home she was already working on potty training and good puppy behavior. Our pup is already a great family dog and I’m confident she will be great in the sleugh next fall. We can tell Beth gives each pup a ton of love and attention

So thankful for all of the hard work that Beth puts into her puppies! Our girl came home at 7 weeks already knowing her name, how to sit, and started on potty training. Truly can’t say enough on how appreciative we are throughout the entire process and can’t imagine getting a Labrador puppy from anywhere else!

We picked up our Lab puppy (Karli) in September 2021 from Over-The-Top Retrievers. OTTRs was recommended to us by TNT Kennels, the home of the sire.
We are very happy with our little girl and I would not hesitate to source another puppy from OTTR. She has a very pleasant personality. We call her our 'Happy Girl". It is a pleasure to wake up each day to her as she instantly gives you a boost to your attitude.
She is a very athletic Lab. Loves to run just for the pleasure of running. She's a speedster. She learns quickly and has a very strong retrieving instinct. Karli made her first trip to Bird Camp in October 2021 when she was only 3 months old. Admittedly, she was young for the experience, didn't really know what the game was, but she eagerly joined in on the fetch of some Ruffed Grouse with our older Labs. She was exposed to gunfire and didn't show the least fear, rather it excited her. She had no fear of the deep woods and ventured out to see what her nose told her was new. It's easy to see that she has a strong hunting instinct. She has a very good nose and can find training dummies in tall grass of wooded areas using her nose alone.
We believe she will top out at about 65-70 pounds, a little lighter than the other Labs we've had. Her athletic ability is 'Over The Top' and she can keep up with older dogs in deep Michigan snow without any problem. At the same time, she is very smart, learns commands quickly, is obedient, and is a pleasure to have in the woods, yard, and home.
We are very much looking forward to fall Grouse and Pheasant hunts this fall with her now that she has matured. I have no doubts that she will be a great hunter.
If you are looking for a hunting dog or a household companion dog, either way, you cannot go wrong getting yourself an OTTR Labrador.

I've trained two dogs with Scott and Beth. One was their litter and the other a descendant of their dogs. Very happy with the outcome both family dogs and hard hunters. Makes hunting and home life great!

We have never been happier with a dog trainer! Not only is Scott an amazing trainer, Beth and Scott treat every dog like their own! We sent our Lab to Texas for winter camp. I was a little nervous to have her gone all winter but she came back an amazingly trained dog! We met with them for a session when they returned and he trained us as well. We are soo happy with the results and would recommend them to anyone looking for great trainers to train for hunting and great companions that are well behaved. We will use them with our next pup!

We purchased a started dog from Over the Top Retrievers and then sent him down to Texas for the winter for hand signals. We have been nothing but impressed with Scott and Beth. Our dog has unbelievable bird drive and does an excellent job retrieving. Scott takes the time to go over all the training commands with you and is available if you have follow up questions or concerns. Beth provided us with such great detailed vet records and even a puppy picture of our sweet Tuna. She has also been available and responds quickly with any questions as she is so knowledgeable. Overall I couldn't say enough good things about our experience and would recommend them to anyone!

Owners are amazing dog people! Very hands on both with training and raising of their pups. Beth takes the absolute best care of the litters so they are very interactive and socialized when they head to their new homes. Scott has a great training program, honestly worth more than they charge. If you are looking for an addition to your family or need some help getting your hunting buddy ready, give them a call!

I have had the privilege to train with Scott and Beth while they winter in Texas over the last 6 year. They are just plain good people and really enjoy working with your dogs. When they are in Texas they have great access to very good training grounds, and you can be assured your dog will be put multiple hunting situations to be prepared for your hunting trip. Beth has excellent puppy program to get them well socialized, really she spoils them to death.

I originally brought my lab to Scott when he was down here in TX during the winter to do a short 1-2 week training as a young pup. The change in my dogs behavior was incredible in such a short time. Because of that it was a no-brainer for me to send my dog back with Scott and Beth to MN for gun dog training for 6-7 months. Scott did a great job and my dog was ready to hunt when I drove up to pick him up. In fact Scott lined up and duck/goose hunt with local outfitters and I was beyond impressed the way my dog worked. Even though we were a long distance away Scott and Beth sent me plenty of videos and pictures showing his progression that the distance wasn’t a concern. Plus, being that we live in TX I knew he’d be better off training in the cooler temps in MN. The training met and exceeded my expectations. And Beth played a big part as well! I would highly recommend Over the Top to anyone and will 100% use them in the future.

I have been fortunate enough to watch Scott train dogs for several years. I have always admired Scott’s ability to get the best out of each dog.Beth and her puppy program is second to none! The time, effort and compassion she provides their litter give them the best start for their new owners.I am fortunate to have an Over The Top puppy out of Willie x River named Allie. Allie is super intelligent with a great training attitude. Allie earned her Junior title by 8 months old. We are very excited to continue Allie’s hunt test career.Bottom line there is not better training or genetics out there than Over The Top!Michael Collum

Scott and Beth did a amazing job at training my lab. They treated her like she was part of their family. They above and beyond working with her because at 6months old she didn’t care to go into the water and after a month she was hitting the water with force trying to get to the bumpers as fast as possible and from there the work they did with my lab was unbelievable. In the end, it was well worth all the training and money having Scott and Beth at Over the top Retrivers train my lab! I highly recommend them.

We can't say enough good things about Scott and Beth at Over The Top Retrievers. Scott has trained 2 of our dogs for us and we could not have been happier with them. I bought a pup from Scott and Beth’s kennel five years ago and never regretted it since. It was my first dog ever and they both made it very easy for me. They take care of their litters SUPER well. They make sure pups go to the right homes! When you’re stuck as a dog owner…they’re very informational and supportive to help out. Such a friendly couple!With the pup I bought from Scott and Beth, I have done hunt tests and waterfowl hunts with him. Scott would invite me a lot of times to train and I’ve picked up a lot of great advice from him. He’s one of the most honest pro trainers around in MN. My dog is now a Master Hunter in AKC and have retrieved several ducks for me. Again, it was my first dog ever! So…if you’re going to decide on a pup or dog training…go OverTheTop!

Scott is a fantastic trainer. We brought Bosch and Luna ( brother and sister) in 2021 fall session. Luna started a week before Bosch. Bosch graduated training before Luna...lol he was done with obedience in 3 and half weeks. Luna went 7 weeks. She was a little more sensitive and played poor me.. Scott helped build her confidence up and she has come a long way and they both listen to commands now. I highly recommend Over the top Retrievers. I have followed them since my pup's went for training. Trust me, it is so WORTH IT!Thank you Scott and Over the Top Retrievers.
