They do not have some of the book they sell. You pay them, you don't not receive any reply when you ask them why you have not received the book you have ordered ... Therefore you ask they send you your money back ...

This is one of those bookstores that you go to if you're looking for rarer non-fiction books. They have some fiction and common stuff too, but specialize in hardcovers, rare prints, and first edition non-fictions. As someone who loathes the average bookstores that have small selections of run of the mill non-fiction books, this place was a treat!

Terrible sellers. I wanted to order books, I corresponded with the seller by email, Mary suddenly stopped responding to me, and then a few days later she sent me an email saying that she had already sold the books I wanted to someone else. What a shame and ignorance! Good luck with your business (I hope soon you will have no clients left at all).

Pretty great collection if you’re willing to get ripped off. I’m not even kidding when I say that classics which weren’t even special editions were being sold above their market value by 100% at times. I found a copy of Dostoevsky’s short stories “The Double” and “The Gambler” for around $40 if I’m not mistaken (bare in mind that copies of this edition are still being printed and are available for purchase) when the market price was around $10 under. The experience was fine, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy anything out of respect for my wallet. Used bookstores are supposed to offer discounted prices, which James & Mary Laurie Booksellers refuses to do for some odd reason.

The shopkeeper doesn't know how to interact with people and ignores customers; pretty cool selection of books though. Also wants $75 for a Harry Potter book.

Jim has been a good friend for more than 20 years and I often go just to visitBut it must be remembered that he is an expert in antiquarian books in general and has a very good selection of books, vinyl and maps and prints to choose from. Plus he can find just about anything he doesn't have in the store. He is a nationally known expert in the field and I couldn't be more positive in recommending Jim and the store to anyone looking for a specific book or record. It is a dynamite store!

Amazing store, stunning. The taller owner was prejudiced n thought I was stealing books tho even with the receipt sitting on top of them. The shorter owner was absolutely lovely.

Scam. They are thieves. I bought a book from them at abebooks.com and they never sent it. No response or reply. Beware!

Awesome gem of a book store! You could literally spend open to close browsing at the variety of books here, old to new, religion to fiction, maps and art, they have everything! Got to chat with the owner for awhile, super cool older gentleman and I loved his little dog, buddy, who gets to run around the shop and greet guests.

Very nice selection of books. Owner, however, is a strange specimen. I picked out 5 books only to have him insist that the prices, which were written in pencil inside the front cover, were not his on 3 of the 5 books, which I pulled from different shelves and alcoves. He went on to double the asking price for the books. Clearly a random decision to charge me more. Even more crazy is the fact that the books were supposed to be 1/2 off. On my first visit, I bought a book for $22. The owner sold it to me for $20. Nice, except that when I looked on the website later that day, the book was listed at $11. At the store, the books are over-priced, intermingled with footware and all manner of random items in the aisles, and rare prints are haphazardly piled on tables, where they are certainly deteriorating with time and handling. The owner is also unpredictably pleasant and then abruptly rude, and the place is a cluttered mess. I have been there twice, because there are many nice books, but I would not go back. From the body of reviews it's clear many others have been treated in similar fashion. Recommend Bookhouse or Midway as quality alternatives.
