I just got back from Andrew Dipper's wonderful shop. He recreated a frog for my 1795 Léonard Tourte violin bow and I purchased a reproduction of a 1770 Léonard Tourte cello bow. Most of the instruments we use to do "authentic" performance aren't particularly authentic, mostly because the instruments themselves are incredibly rare. Mr. Dipper seems to be one of those very rare individuals who knows a lot about historical instruments and then can fearlessly and accurately restore and reproduce them. If you are as crazy about the subject as I am, go talk to Mr. Dipper. Please do examine the display case, but also have him open up every drawer and hiding place. In this way and on more than one occasion I have stumbled upon a treasure that has inspired a new restoration or reproduction.
