The Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae is a beautiful, clean facility in downtown Minneapolis, widely regarded as one of the nicest and cleanest YMCAs in Minnesota. It offers a great selection of cardio equipment and a strong focus on making big compound movements available. The space is clean with secure lockers, and it features an aquatic center with a lap pool. Members have access to many activities, group exercise classes like warm yoga, Pilates reformers, cutting-edge strength training, and virtual reality workouts. However, some members report issues with communication and management. It is crucial to confirm membership pricing clearly, as some feel misled. There have been complaints about the handling of the buddy membership system, where one party's cancellation negatively impacted the other without warning. The cable machine selection is noted to be small with a low weight limit and can be awkward for two-arm exercises. Some machines are also described as uncomfortable with limited ranges of motion. The staff is generally noted as friendly and providing wonderful customer service, though one specific manager was cited as extremely rude with poor conflict resolution skills. Despite these criticisms, many members express great appreciation for the facility and the financial assistance programs that make membership accessible.
Drove around literally 5 times & still couldnt find parking . NEVER trying again

Move to the Gaviidae location from the 9th & LaSalle building (1990s-2018) was the worst decision possible.

I really enjoy working out here. The space is really clean, the lockers are secure, the staff is friendly, theirs so many activities going on during the month and it has all the equipment necessary for a quality workout.
