I loveddd my results. I got my hair done by Denise and she was incredibly kind. She made sure I was okay throughout the whole process and made sure that I knew what was going on. I was completely satisfied and will definitely be coming back soon!

If you love your hair, I personally wouldn't risk it again. I've never been picky about my hair and the students have always done a pretty decent job in the past, but a recent experience has me questioning my life choices. I went in with a beautiful head of healthy, natural color hair for a full foil and after the bleach was left on for far too long (3 hours!!!), I had to go to another salon to cut off 5 inches of fried hair and get a deep conditioning. However, this was close to enough to fix the damage. The back was bleached white while the top was splotchy and under-processed (see photo). I then went back to the school for a color correction that was thankfully very well done, but my hair is now 5 inches shorter and absolutely fried. In the end, I've paid more than I would have had I just gone to a professional salon in the first place. Then after all that had happened, when it was time to leave after the color correction service, I was humiliated at the front of the store which is a long story that I won't get into. Bottom line, I never ended up with the color I came for, I lost a large amount of length, and my hair now feels like someone else's because it's so damaged and over processed. It's been emotional to say the least.

I’ll give a great overall rating as my student was great! However checking out, the blonde receptionist with glasses at 6:30 pm, she degraded the student about not telling me the specials, you don’t need to speak about that in that tone in front of a paying customer. And after that I wasn’t aware that you couldn’t leave a tip on the credit card. She was incredibly rude to say oh we don’t promote it. They’re just students they’re not workers. based on that interaction, I’d say she needs some customer service classes

After using AI for most of my adult life, I don’t know if I’ll be coming back. I’ve loved getting a decent haircut for the discount price and feel good about providing an opportunity for higher education. That said, it’s unfortunate but the teaching has gone so far down hill.
I think this is more of a student beware kind of review rather than buyer beware.
I don’t blame the student at all- it’s clear she’s never come across fine wavy/curly hair before (which goes against some of the typical curly hair process standards for styling anyway so it’s even more of a niche). The sad part is not that the student didn’t know, but that the teacher did not know any better.
I had approximately 4” cut off and despite the decrease in weight, I came away with extremely frizzy, undefined, nearly straight hair after the styling, despite coming in with defined loose curls, and the teacher thought the styling was just fine.
I’m satisfied with the cut- I know it’ll be fine once I style it myself. Ultimately this is why I may come back- I came for the cut, not the style, and the cut was as expected.
The booking of reservation was far from what I’d call good customer service too, something they used to pride themselves on.
I feel as though the students are being scammed into thinking this is a great education, which is unfortunate because AI used to be.

Katrina at the Minneapolis location was amazing! I got my haircut and she did a phenomenal job with concave layers on my curly hair. I was so nervous coming in, but Katrina did such a great job putting me at ease!! Thank you Katrina!

I originally had a foil with Cadaynce, and the color wasn’t toning correctly. She kept working on the color until it was just what I wanted, even though it meant she had to miss lunch. For someone to have that much dedication to getting quality results so early in her learning was unheard of. I have since gotten regular blow outs and color touch ups, and she remains as focused on client satisfaction as she was with my first service. She is skilled, thoughtful, and has such an instinct for what needs to be done or what will work. Amazing to have such poise at her age. Can’t recommend her highly enough, she deserves more than 5 stars. Seriously.

I love going to the Aveda institute. It’s great prices for a great haircut as well as it helps students learn. I always feel very confident coming here and know i’ll end up with a great haircut every time. The students are in constant communication with their instructors as well for extra confidence

Hi, this is Nefisa and I would like to share me and my friends’ disappointing and frustrating experience with aveda. We all scheduled back to back appointments starting at 4:30pm. We were all getting wash, blow dry and ironing. We all have 3b to 4a natural hair so we asked to confirm first if they have had experiences with natural hair before and they specifically said that they have extensive experience in it and that it shouldn’t be an issue at all. Starting from the wash, our hair was not washed properly at all. We came home and noticed a lot of dirt on our scalp and also when they were blowing it out. They then started to blow dry our hair without properly detangling it. Anyone with natural hair knows that the proper way to detangling is when hair is wet and you always start from the end and work your way up, that was not the case. They were detangling our hair after blowing a lot of hot air on it and it completely dried. That was truly upsetting since you don’t need to be a professional to know that, a simple google search would do. Their instructor was absolutely rude and condescending as she kept referring to my hair as hard to deal with and she labeled my hair type wrong and that made me doubt her knowledge at all! She treats her students very badly. We all had to redo our hair at home and schedule other hair appointments. Such a waste of time, truly disappointing.

So I used to purchase haircare treatments and products over a decade ago at this location. What happened to all the world flags!? There are only like three and it looks tacky. Please remove the few tattered ones!

Let me start off by saying I do not what my review to be a reflection of my stylists work. This should merely a reflection of the training and assistance they are receiving on the floor. I scheduled a full foil and a haircut for 12:30pm I got there at 12:15 and we got started ahead of schedule. My stylist was very nice and seemed to be understanding of the result I was looking for. It was going well, she wasn’t the fastest foiler by any means but that is understandable as they are students and will get faster with experience. 1:30 rolled around and she was still fouling, 2:30 and 3:30 still foiling. My stylist stated that the school would like students to finish up with the clients around 4:00 as school is done at 4:30 and they need to be finished. Since she finished foiling around 3:30 she rushed me to the shampoo bowl (which could use some updating) and started washing my hair. Since I was getting highlights and wanted something similar to a platinum blonde she was also using a toner. She put the toner in and said she was going to let it sit for 7 minutes. I’ve gotten highlights my whole life and the toner has always been left in longer than 7 minutes. I was trusting if the process as I hadn’t seen anything yet so maybe my toner did only need 7 minutes to process. Well, she came back two minutes later and rinsed out my toner and didn’t even let it sit for the 7 minutes she said. Then we walked back to her chair and she stated it was 4:00 and she wouldn’t be able to do the haircut today and asked if I could come back. I am a new mom of a 10 week old and am going back to work in a couple days. I think it is very unprofessional and sad that they schedule things that these students don’t have enough time to complete. I don’t have the schedule or the flexibility to come back whenever I’d like because she was not able to finish my haircut. She also asked if I would be ok with a casual blow dry instead of a style. I said yes, as I felt bad that she was feeling rushed and I did not go there for a blow out (I can do that at home). It was the color I went for. I told her that was fine. She blow dried my hair for maybe 2 minutes and never even brushed thru it. I don’t think she wanted to spend more time cleaning her brush when she finished with me. After that my hair was a tangled mess and was still dripping wet on the ends. She proceeded to get an instructor to sign off/ approve of her work. I thought surely the instructor would have her dry it to see the quality of the color/ color pattern but no, the instructor said Great job! Thanks for coming in today. While my hair was tangled and dripping wet. When my stylist told her that she was unable to get to my haircut I thought maybe someone else could do it or something, they wouldn’t have people leave without finishing the service they scheduled… right? But they did.
I paid for my service and left. In disbelief of what just happened I thought, I’ll go home and see my color. I wasn’t able to tell when I left due to the wet hair and unbrushed hair. I was shocked when I got home. And unfortunately a little upset how things ended because if I would’ve seen the finished product at the institute I would’ve brought it their attention. To be continued -

A Pleasant Experience with Great Attention to Detail Overall, my experience at Aveda School was quite positive. The student attending to me showed great potential, although she appeared somewhat tentative throughout the session. I found her constant apologies unnecessary; as a student, she shouldn't feel the need to apologize excessively. Nevertheless, her pleasant demeanor and meticulous attention to detail made the experience enjoyable. The school itself impressed me with its cleanliness and organization. Every aspect seemed well-maintained, contributing to a professional atmosphere. Additionally, the staff were friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. I would certainly consider returning for future appointments.
