We drove up to Hinckley from the St. Paul suburbs on a Sunday afternoon. I remember the museum from when I was younger and have been wanting to go back for years. Admission was $5 for each adult. There is a 15-20 minute video detailing the event and I'd recommend watching that first as it gives the needed context for the items in the museum. There is also an example apartment upstairs we almost missed, but the guides pointed us in that direction. There is a caboose and example house outside to also visit.

I have lived in Minnesota my whole life, and I am always fascinated by its history. This historical center teaches how the great fire engulfed Hinckley and changed the area from hence forward. You get a breakdown, then a 20 or 30 minute and then you can observe historical items and replica rooms.I had fun but I am a simple Minnesotan.

A simple, yet incredibly rich, museum. The building which houses the museum was rebuilt after the fire, and you do feel transported back in time. To see artifacts from the fire & to read stories of survivors, brings a new appreciation to something I heard about as a kid. There's mention of burial for about half of the victims at the museum, and the cemetery is only about a mile from the museum. It's also worth a stop.

Beautiful and Harrowing stuff. We arrived just at "last admission" but they let us in anyways. We learned alot and the artifacts and stories displayed there are amazing. My only critique would be that some of the descriptions on the exhibits have typos. Otherwise, It was definitely worth seeing.

Great small town museum. You will learn a lot about this devastating fire in 1894 that changed everything for Hinckley and killed over 400 people. Great artifacts, cool old train depot location, very interesting video that you must see to understand the whole experience and impact. They also have a caboose and a recreation of the houses given to people whose homes were destroyed in the fire. Super interesting history and well worth the stop. Appeals to all ages

My partner read a book about this horrific event… and so we decided to make the drive to our neighboring state to go see this museum. You get to watch a 15-20 min video on the original Hinckley and how badly the fire devastated the town and people. There’s lots of great information and artifacts here. You can definitely tell that this museum was a labor of love to educate and keep stories of this event alive. This place is run by volunteers and is well kept. The gentleman working the day we were there was very kind and helpful! I recommend checking it out!

Cool little museum, lots to learn and read about. If you're in town, support the community and take a look into the past at a horrifying event.

Amazing and informative museum about a very tragic and historic event in Minnesota history. Staff was so friendly and helpful in answering questions and pointing out rooms or displays of importance! The short video perfectly encompasses what the museum is about. So glad I stopped in to learn about local history.

The man in the gift shop was very helpful. He answered all of our questions, made useful suggestions and set up the movie for us to watch. The displays were informative.. The museum was nice. We enjoyed it very much, and fully recommended it.

What a lovely place for such a tragedy in history. The interior is well-kept and the staff is knowledgeable! Interesting and engaging throughout, the artifacts of the area speak to a powerful event that changed the whole region.
