I've been a member since the mid-2000s and have always been happy with Spire services. They have always been good to me with their loan services, financial guidance and customer service. The problem as of late, is the third-party insurance for my new car. I bought my new car in April 2023, yet I still receive letters from Spire saying they "haven't received evidence of insurance." It's now December and my agent has assured me they sent over the info two times. Before I spoke with my agent this morning, I called Spire's 800 number, that was provided in the letter, to find out where and why this disconnect was happening. I asked to speak with the rep's manager to, again, help find the disconnect. This is where I told I was dealing with a third party (VERY disappointed) and the rep transferred me to a local bank manager. She was helpful, but didn't understand why I was transferred to her. She did give me a different 800 number for my agent to call to sort things out. I asked my agent to email me to let me know the results. I'm disappointed there is an outside/third party handling my information. Is the third party local? Disappointed no one could provide me with answers to why the third party was not receiving my information. Disappointed that the third party reps seem to not be trained to properly connect me to the correct person to discuss the problem (their direct manager).

I prequalified an auto loan with Spire in 2022. I puchased my vehicle in January 2022 and went over to the Maple Grove office to set up an auto pay though my normal bank. The lady couldn't find my account number and took a while to find it. I gave her a voided check with my acct # on it and left. She called me a few hours later and told me they needed a voided deposit slip which I had to drive back over to Maple Grove again and I ws not happy about that. Then I was going to do a balance transfer from my bank to Spire Credit Union and I was approved for the transfer which no one seemed to know how to do so I paid off the entire amount of the balance transfer and since I had already been approved for a certain amount fro Spire, I asked for a credit card instead with the zero balance transfer. I was told that my new credit card would be at the Maple Grove office the next day so I drove over there and no one could find anything so I ended up with Matthew, a branch manager who had no idea what he was doing so he pointed me back to the teller window and walked off, back to his office and closed the door like this wasn't his concern but he should have made a couple of phone calls and straighten everything out. I couldn't believe how rude he was but this was not about his attitude since I was not there to make friends, this was business. When I told the teller that he didn't know anything she said that it was "not nice" What's not "so nice" when I could clearly see that he didn't understand a word that I said and no, he wasn't nice. I am a client and deseve to be treated as such. He didn't know anything and it showed and he was so stand offish, I was ready to leave without the card. I was told to come back in a hour and I informed that agent that I didn't live next door and this was making me tired so I had to find something to do for an hour with a Walmart next door. I had no intentions of shopping but what choice did I have while they tried to untangle this issue? There is always an ":issue" with them. When they got in touch with the customer agent that told me my card would be at the Maple Grove office that day, she said that she mailed it to my house by mistake so that was another wasted trip. Flash forward to a recent purchase of another auto loan. I called my "contact agent" in Golden Valley 3 times after leaving messages for her to call me because I didn't have a shred of anything that showed my account number on it. I was just suppose to write it down someplace on a piece of paper. What is going on over there?

Spire is the best Credit Union in MN. Spire has been both transparent and extra helpful. I've call Spires support line and they've been super helpful and knowledgable. I came from a Hugh bank that treated me like a number, Spire cares about its members. You can even call the CEO!

This is the worst credit union ever. Since I've been with spire I've had nothing but problems. I'm always getting a letter saying my car insurance was not accecpted and i also made arrangments to skip a payment on my vehicle. I was told the funds will not be drawn from my account through a different bank that i bank through. Spire took the funds any way leaving my account negative. When i spoke to someone at spire i was told. They didn't see any notes saying skip a payment.this is not good business at all.

Worst Credit Union Ive ever banked with. The app. is constantly updating...why all the updates nothing changes. I swear if I get one more UNEXPECTED ERROR HAS OCCURRED message I'm going to lose my cool. Instead of buying up property for new branches lets fix the things you already have. Youre trying to be there for your customers but you are failing big time. Sincerely the man that has loans through you because you're local not because of your rates....the man that also pumps more than $100,000 a year through your bank.

I have been with Spire nearly 4 years and I have NEVER been with a finance institution so unwilling to help me as a member. I’ve applied for loans (consolidated, auto, home, personal) for reasons that change each time as I’ve fixed the reasons of previous denials! This includes a loan to fix the damaged THEY caused by not reinstating my bill pay I had to call them, after my score dropped 105 points! STILL I got my score back up but I drive for a living and got into an accident WITHOUT any income I knew that soon my account would go negative so I applied for a loan AGAIN, this time not enough time as being self employed so I called and corrected that I’ve been self employed over 5 years, STILL A NO! As I thought would happen my bill pay is suspended because my account is negative!Spire CLAIMS to be there for their members but I’ve even referred my mom and son, and they TOO have had resistance from Spire!

Called and spoke with Kasey (spelling?) today regarding paperwork and a returned mail fee and they helped me with paperwork and refunded the fee in less than 5 minutes. Thanks Kasey!

I experienced the worst issues ever trying to establish new services at this branch . I hope I never have to cross their path again the worst customer service I have ever experience came down to this bank twice to set up a account and basically have been turned away not to mention due to gas prices it’s very upsetting that the people who work for this company doesn’t want to be accommodating to the public to bring business or get business I gave them less than one star on there lack of sympathy or willingness to be for the community

Shelby L was a great help through the whole process of refinancing loans. Also helping with numbers on a whole bunch of cars that I sent her, couldn’t ask for better service!

After banking with Spire Credit Union for nearly three years, my overall experience has been vastly disappointing. In 2018, I was able to refinance my current auto loan and establish Spire as my full time financial institution. While banking at various branches has been generally a positive experience, I have found that Spire has imposed various fee's on my accounts that have been excessive and non transparent. Throughout 2020, and the COVID 19 pandemic, Spire's banking system has been very difficult to manage and navigate, such as setting up direct deposit, which has contributed to unfair penalties that were incurred on my account, even when the funds were available. I will be concluding my relationship with Spire, and would encourage existing and perspective customers to fully weigh their banking options before choosing this institution.

Example 1: (December 2020) I asked to close my business account. They sent a form filled in with my personal account information.Example 2: (December 2020) I corrected the form they sent me, but they sent me a different form, filled in with God-knows-who's phone number.Example 3: (Autumn 2020) A business account cannot (or could not) have Bill Pay without signing up and paying a fee. I did not sign up and paid no fee. Without notification, Spire changed one of my long-established personal Bill Pay payments to a business Bill Pay (this should not have been possible). Further, without notification nor permission, they used my personal account bounce prevention loan to cover this erroneous business payment. This caused a cascade of overdrafts. Spire telephone supports response, "We've been having trouble with Bill Pay." (An older person (there seem to be few of them) whom I had met at Spire refunded the Spire NSF fees, but not the Amex and other NSF fees.)Example 4: (Autumn 2016) Spire absorbs my Ecolab account and promptly starts paying my auto loan from the wrong account. There are other examples, but none as blatant or glaring as the above.I have met many wonderful people at Spire, but I need a financial institution that is, relatively speaking, mistake-free. Dependable. Spire has proven to be neither.

I have been a SPIRE member for 15 years and an employee for 6 years. Ever since my very first experience with SPIRE back when it was Twin Cities Co-Op I have always felt that they are different then the "big banks". I had a few issues with a large bank 15 years ago and TCU was the ONLY bank that would open an account for me. That has always stuck with me as they took a chance and allowed me to open a savings account, then a checking account which was so helpful as I did not have a bank to deposit my paychecks.
