Got in early, very efficient front desk staff, vet tech right there on time, staff doctor very kind and thorough. Took time explaining pet insurance to me (pros and cons). Excelsior Animal Hospital is just an excellent place!

Prior owner was a great woman with a great family. New ownership follows the same corporate molestation for ridiculous profit margins and average care at best. They upsell you for no reason when your animal is completely healthy.

Pricing is 70-100% more than other animal hospitals in the area -- not sure why. Care is good, but physicals and exams are less thorough than airport TSA security, so not sure what they accomplish if anything.

I am in the process of looking for a new vet since mine has become sales driven and decided to try this place out because they were offering 50 percent off first time wellness exams for new customers. I book an appointment on April 8th online for an appointment on the 11th. They call me and let me know since it's a first time exam they would like to do a 45 minute appointment to properly examine my pet and to accommodate this they wanted to move my appointment to the 12th which I agree to. I get there on time for my appointment to then just sit in the examination room with my dog for a full half hour before the doctor finally walked in ready to start the appointment. The funny thing about this is when booking an appointment online they ask for customers to arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out new customer forms if needed. Since I already submittmed my form online I showed up at my scheduled appointment time. The audacity to ask people to show up early when these guys cant even show up close to on time within their own building is a bit hilarious. I understand running a bit behind here and there, but a full half hour late for a 45 minute appointment is a bit much and honestly disrespectful especially since no one even bothered to let me know what the hold up was or give me a time estimate. I doubt they would've been cool with me just walking in 30 minutes past my appointment time and basically shrugging like its no big deal. Customers have jobs and lives too and when you tell me the appointment will take 45 minutes that to me says I should be able to get in and out within an hour which is how much time I had set aside to spend there that day (I took a long lunch break which was 1 hour and 15 minutes and I live 5 minutes away). Had they let me know the doctor was running this behind I could've just rescheduled right away, but since that didn't happen I just sat around thinking she'd be in any minute. I let the doctor know I won't have enough time for the full 45 minutes now due to the wait and she gives the option to reschedule or just have them start now. Not wanting to rush the appointment I decide to try and reschedule for a weekend to eliminate being in a potential time crunch or use pto. On my way out I remembered they aren't open on weekends so, I ask the person at the front desk for a refund on my $79 deposit to reserve the appointment since I didn't have my exam done or the vaccines updated. I literally just sat in a room for a half hour and left. The first person tells me she doesn't know how to because she's new so, she asks her colleague for help. Her colleague starts looking into it and almost immediately asks me if they can just call me later. I tell them I'd rather not and would prefer to get the refund taken care of right away while I was there. They tell me they can't because they have to update the invoice and take the items we were going to have done off, but they will for sure have it done before the end of business day and will call me to let me know it was submitted. Keep in mind at this point I was already on my way out and not committing to the additional 45 minutes so this wasnt due to me being in a rush and I didnt tell the people at the front desk I was, I just stated I couldnt stay for the full appointment now due to the late start. Looking back on it now the invoice thing makes no sense since the deposit was a completely different transaction needed to book the appointment and the money was taken out of my account on the 8th already. I agree to let them "take care" of the issue and call me before the end of business day and shocker they didn't. I was getting the vibes the whole "just call him later" idea was just a way to get me to leave and not deal with the problem. And to be clear this is the main reason for the negative review. We were patients here for 4 years, and saw probably 3 different vets come and go here in that time. They were all nice and kind and we didn’t have any complaints until the most recent vet we saw that caused us to sever ties and move on to a better practice elsewhere in the metro. If you do decide to come here for your pets, beware of high prices and an accusatory vet.
