Barrington Oaks takes great care of all of my family’s fur babies (cats and dogs) and scale babies (reptiles). Dr. Cottem, Dr. Cameron Gallenberg, and Dr. Kim Gallenberg are the vets we’ve seen. They are compassionate and knowledgeable, as are all of the techs, assistants, and receptionists we’ve come in contact with over the years. You can tell they truly care about every animal who comes through their doors.
Our most recent visit was for our bearded dragon who we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have euthanized (she was very old and sickly). We want to give very special thanks to the veterinary assistant Rebecca who was so compassionate and comforting during this difficult time. We could not have asked for someone more caring to be with our baby in her final moments. Thank you Rebecca, and thank you to everyone at Barrington Oaks. We are grateful for all that you do every day. ❤️?

Barrington oaks is my go to vet for my various animals, I switched to them a couple years ago since most vets don’t see exotics and I want all my pets to go to the same place. The vets, vet techs, and secretary staff are all wonderful and caring, you can tell they truly care for the animals that walk through the door and work hard everyday to give the best care!

For those of Elk River who are unaware (like I was), all strays or caught house cats that get brough in do not go to Barrington in town here, they go to Monticello. Apologies for any misinformation. And thank you Barrington for the help!
Thank you for the correction. It is a relief to hear your company did not do this. Where do the strays of Elk River go then? Is there a way to improve the situation for the strays and house cats that get brought in. I was told the cats were brought in to Barrington after being caught in live animal traps and were put down because they were not chipped (if that is the case for any veterinary hospital, that's just sad and I feel for my neighbors that lost their family). The neighbors that did this to them are definitely no longer trusted in my neighborhood. (we live in a wild area; they should expect wildlife... not destroy it)
Previous Post, please disregard as I have been corrected- Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm under the understanding this is a "kill" shelter for the "strays" of elk river. Well it sounds like you guys killed my neighbors cat... shame on you. Maybe change your policies or something because that is heartbreaking and you won't be receiving any more good word from me until I hear otherwise

The doctors and staff here are incredibly nice and compassionate!! My pets always receive amazing care and we love Dr. Cameron! We have been going there for years and have yet to have a bad experience. Please take those 1 star reviews with a grain of salt. You will always be greeting with a smiling face and find fantastic care for your pets!!

The receptionists are terrific, but the care I received for my 15-year cat who had bladder cancer was sad. She was diagnosed and then prescribed a medication that I couldn't find for cancer, only for pain. I thought we were treating her cancer, but found that wasn't the case. I gave her medication religiously and she seemed to be doing well on it. I called in for a refill and thought it was weird because the dose was huge in comparison to what had been prescribed before. I did not give it to her and took it with me when I had her in and found it was a dog dosage and would have killed her. I hadn't noticed anything, but was told she had some thicker discharge so they wanted to do a "flush". I trusted them and said okay. They did it and she bit a tech. This cat has never even hissed, never bites or complains - even at the vet. I was never told that she had bit anyone - "we flushed until she told us she had had enough." I took my sweet girl home and she hemorrhaged all over. I ended up having to put her to sleep. My family said it was like night and day - brought her home and she was instantly done. Yes, the cancer would have gotten her in the end, but she suffered following this "treatment" and I'm so sad that I placed my trust in them and "let" this happen to my sweet little 15-year old friend. I will NEVER go to another vet that takes my pet away to the back for every little thing. It's more stressful for my pets and I can't see what's being done - I know my pet's behavior and could have said that's enough. When I needed to put her down, I called to see when I could do this, which is so difficult. After making the appointment, I was called back and told they couldn't do it because she had bitten the tech - this is the first I had heard of it. I was told that I'd have to take her to the UofM to get her tested for rabies. We were already to the 10 days, so I went with an in-home euthanasia - wonderful people!! I also had to put my dog down the end of June, and now I question how that evolved. She was given no medication to treat her kidney disease - only prescription food. Take this how you will. Just my latest experience..... I will not return.

I have been bringing a pet here for 18 years. My first cat Kyia lived to be 19 years old. Dr Kim has been the best vet. With my new rescue Sidney I added Dr Sarah to the team because he needed dental surgery. Now 8 months later he is a healthy 15 year old senior who at times acts like is 5! (I did use a in home euthanasia vet Blue Skies Dr Tracy for Kyia a very peaceful experience.) I truly appreciate all at Barrington Oaks Veterinary Hospital and the care they are giving Sidney.

They recommend you into having very expensive x rays because they scare you with the word “tumor” but clearly is just an infection. A swollen toe 2 days after a serious toe nail break and they come up with the conclusion of a “tumor” and should have an x ray. Lone behold $600 later it was just an infection like you said and send you home with with $10 antibiotics you paid $60 for.
