A realtor by the name of Steve Dieringer. was recommended to me by a colleague who previously interacted with this person. TL;DR STAY AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN from this office period.
In 2012 S.D. helped me buy my first home. At the time he made the comment to my face that the price of my home was beneath him, but was only doing it since I came recommended.
The first day I moved in, we had a typical MN rain storm and realized that the roof had a huge leak. I took pictures as can be seen here. I called S.D. and he ignored my calls. Not knowing what to do, I was adviced to call the agent's broker. They recommended arbitration but by this time, I gave up out of frustration and I ended up paying for a brand new roof out of pocket.
Six years later (still a bit naive) I contacted this realtor to discuss looking for a new home. Since he smelled dollars, he apologized for ghosting me 6 years earlier. Long story short, this realtor "helped" us buy our second home which twice the cost of our first home, easy money... The house had rotted windows and in decent condition, but hindsight 20/20, I don't recall EVER receiving any guidance as to what was a good investment for our family. It was always about the fast payout.
Fast forward to 2021, we decided to yet again use the same realtor to put up our home up for sale. This time, we moved out of state, and became really frustrated with the process since this person refuses to spend money to provide electronic signatures. We literally have to print every form, scan, send.. why doesn't Edina Realty provide this service to all of their agents??
After this stressful ordeal, I decided to invest in a property for my immediate family. We tried and lost on a couple of offers, hindsight 20/20, this realtor did not use some of the tools and clauses we've come to learn about. You live and learn. However, you'd expect that working with someone with the experience this person brings our experience would be much better. But it's not.
To make it short, we ended up purchasing a property previously a rental. Since the home was supposed to be a purchase for the rest of our lives, we invested in renovations. It wasn't perfect but that's beside the point. Events in our lives caused us to put the home up for sale. Again, we went through this realtor not for his personality or experience, but because he knew a handy man who's the best in the world, and our only contact was...
The situation was very stressful during the many months our home sat on the market. The realtor put the blame on us by stating to my face that "he would have never bought this house" and that "should I spoken to him, he would have told me to never made the improvements we did". After all the money this person has made from us, I don't understand the audacity.
This realtor told us that he needed the money and tried to get us to accept the lowest of the low offers because that is all we had to work with. The home had all new Pella windows, all new appliances, and partially new kitchen. After that deal fell through, I told this person twice to take it off the market. The second time due to family reasons. They did not and continued with showings. This person mentioned lawsuits and other nonsense to try to weasel himself to a sale. At the end, he put so much pressure, that I wanted this person out of our life, especially for my wife.
I contacted the broker out of this office, but nothing was done. Unfortunately, I feel that there's no more consumer protection laws against toxic realtors. Through these past experiences, I DO NOT RECOMMEND, RUN AWAY, STAY WAY FROM EDINA REALTY, PERIOD, from giving your hard earned money away simply because of convinience. Do your due dilligence, don't sign anything, first signs of red flags, move on to greener better pastures.
