I will preface this by saying that FCAH's doctors (Dr. Beach and Dr. Koupal specifically) are probably among the best, most knowledgeable, sensitive and compassionate vets I've ever had the pleasure of taking my fur kids to. Their admin staff, on the other hand...a mixed bag. My latest (and probably last for a while as we've moved out of the area) experience with them is a textbook example in what not to do at a sensitive time, such as that around a pet's loss.
Last week we said goodbye to our eldest cat. Dr. Beach was with us every step of the way, guiding us through a decision that, although was a humane one, was still an incredibly difficult one to make. During the final consult we were very specific in saying that while we did want a paw print and lock of hair to remember Gus by, we wanted a communal cremation and did not want his ashes back. Dr. Beach understood and documented this request (and that's what it says in our final invoice).
And then yesterday I got a phone call from one of the admin staff saying "hey, we got Gus's ashes back, when would you like to pick them up?" I really didn't need that kind of gut punch, so I reminded her of what our wishes had been. She promised to take care of it only to text me back ten minutes later saying "whoops, we made a mistake - those weren't ashes, that was an extra paw print". Though we already had the one FCAH made for us, it would have made a lovely surprise, had it not been preceded by what I'm sure was a very well-intentioned, but ultimately rather unsensitive exchange. I recognize a certain need for cynicism and even callousness in a profession where one deals with living beings and their inevitable passing on a daily basis, but how hard was it to avoid this entirely by simply looking inside the (open!) bag??? I'm pretty sure ours wasn't the first such case they've dealt with. Surely it's not THAT difficult to tell between a box that literally says "PAW PRINT" on it and an urn with remains?
Seriously, guys. Do better. Don't respond to this review apologizing as you might be tempted to do. Just work with your staff on improving their attention to detail just a tiny little bit. It will make all the difference in the world to those experiencing loss.

They take exceptional care of my best girl!
She had a serious life threatening accident, and Dr. Krull, Dr. Hoffer and the staff have been amazing helping her get her health and mobility back.

I’m so thankful that Flying Cloud Animal Hospital was able to fit my cat in as a new patient on the same day! The follow-up from the doctor was prompt and thorough, and I really appreciated how caring the entire staff was. You can tell they genuinely love animals, so I felt completely comfortable leaving my cat in their care—even though he’s often scared of new people. I’ll definitely be bringing both of my cats here from now on! Highly recommend!

Excellent service and knowledgeable staff. That doesn’t mean my rescue dog wants to go there but he does appreciate the treats once his service is complete. The new address helps.

My sweet pup has been really under the weather, and the team at Flying Cloud Animal Hospital has taken great care of him, quickly getting him a room, seeing the vet, getting X-Rays done, getting us medicine, and getting us on our way to go recover at home. They are very thorough, empathetic, and I am so happy I took my pup here!

This is THE best vet clinic in the Twin Cities. The staff is very friendly. Everyone is so kind and caring. The Vets are extremely knowledgable and can articulate your pet's situation, issues, options, and recommendations to you in an easy to understand way. Multiple family and friends visit this team already (for over 20 years), and I cannot recommend them enough!

Dr. Grace knows about my hound's struggles with allergies, so he suggested I just follow the dematologist's treatment plan. I asked if a blood panel would be advisable since he’s been suffering for several months. Dr. Grace didn’t try to talk me into it, but I went ahead with it. It seems my boy has low thyroid, so he is on a new med. Dr. Grace never pushes me to do procedures and explains them thoroughly. A great vet. My clinic for over forty years.

I have been a client of Flying Cloud Animal Hospital for 38 years. Dr Krull and his team are fabulous. My 17 year old Sheltie had an abscessed tooth . . . pretty scared having to put him under anesthesia at that age and with an MDR1 gene mutation which makes anesthesia tricky. Dr. Krull, Cassie, & Courtney did an amazing job monitoring him during the procedure and I am happy to report he came through like a champ! Thanks for all that you do for my "kiddos"! You guys are the best!
